Jesus and Martha during the Sinai Covenant or just before the Cross.

Jesus said two things for two different situations and time periods.

First he said something that can apply to someone who died believing in him before his death on the Cross. And that can apply only to those in the Sinai Covenant at that time and not the other nations of the world.

To the first part starts with the word "Whoever" believes in me ....the whoever apply to both righteous and unrighteous people who were under the jurisdiction of the Sinai Covenant only.

Eternity Hinges on One Question, Have You Answered It? In John 11:25–26, Jesus confronts us with a question that every person must face, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” These words were spoken to Martha just before Jesus raised her brother Lazarus from the grave, but they weren’t meant only for her. This question still echoes today, direct, urgent, and eternal.

Jesus didn’t say I can give resurrection or I know the way to life, He said I am the resurrection and the life. This isn’t a metaphor, it’s a claim of divine authority and power. It means that all hope of eternal life, all assurance beyond the grave, all victory over death itself rests entirely in Him. There is no other source, no alternative path. As Jesus said elsewhere, “No man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6).

Martha had a general belief that the dead would rise “at the last day,” as taught in the Scriptures (John 5:28–29), but Jesus wasn’t satisfied with a vague religious idea. He brought her to a moment of personal decision, to trust in Him now. Eternal life isn’t just a future hope, it’s a present reality for those who believe. Jesus doesn’t just promise resurrection on the last day, He gives life today to the spiritually dead (Ephesians 2:1, 5). He gives peace, purpose, and the indwelling Holy Spirit to all who believe.

And that’s why His question matters so much, “Do you believe this?” Not, Do you go to church? Not, Are you a good person? Not even, Do you believe in God? The issue is Jesus Himself. Do you believe that He is the resurrection and the life? Have you trusted Him alone to save you from sin and death?

This isn’t a question you can afford to ignore or push off. Hebrews 9:27 says, “It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” There are no second chances after death. Either you believe in Christ now and receive eternal life, or you face eternal separation from God. As Jesus also warned, “If ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins” (John 8:24).

The question is simple, and eternal. Jesus asks you today, “Do you believe this?” Your answer is not just a response to a Bible verse. It’s the dividing line between life and death, between hope and judgment, between heaven and hell. Answer it with faith in the One who conquered the grave and offers you life that never ends.

If you’re unsure or just beginning to seek, don’t delay. Open the Bible, read the Gospel of John, and ask God to show you the truth. He promises, “He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life” (John 5:24). The offer stands, but time is short. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and live.

No, it isn't.  So, can you explain how anyone who has come to LIFE/been made ALIVE in Christ/has passed from death to life who remains abiding and believing,

goes from LIFE back to DEATH to become one of
'THE DEAD' in Christ a second time thereby not rising and/or being resurrected until the 2nd Advent rather than 'following Him'/rising up/being resurrected from the first death?

When one truly believes THEY WILL NEVER DIE, it becomes impossible to believe they will ever be one of the DEAD, and/or the DEAD IN CHRIST because only those who have NOT BEEN SAVED are DEAD in Christ as they remain DEAD IN SIN.

God is the God of the LIVING and NOT the DEAD.

Ephesians 2:5 even being we dead in trespasses made [us] alive with Christ; by grave you are saved,

6 and He raised [us] up together and seated [us] together in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus

sunegeiró    to raise together, to awaken together

sugkathizó: To sit together, to sit down with

en   in, on, at, by, with, among

Saved from the penalty of sin and by that... DEATH/the grave/the place of the dead/hell

John  5:24  Truly truly I say to you that the [one] the word of Me hearing and believing the [One} having sent Me, he has (PRESENT TENSE) life eternal and into judgment not comes (so obviously not one of the DEAD in Christ nor one of the DEAD to stand at the GWTJ) but HAS PASSED (perfect) out of death into life.

metabainó   to pass over, to change, to depart, to move

Hopefully it is obvious to everyone, but just in case, I point to the CONTEXT in which it is given...death and resurrection...not just in this life and body but the one that comes of it...

John 5

24  Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth My word, and believeth on Him that sent Me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

25  Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live. 26  For as the Father hath life in Himself; so hath He given to the Son to have life in Himself 27  And hath given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of man. 28  Marvel not at this, for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear His voice, 29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

I agree, the DEAD die in their sins, but THOSE WHO NEVER made a choice and/or NEVER even HEARD so couldn't believe one way or the other, MUST GET A FIRST CHANCE, especially when it is Gods WILL that all come to repentance...and WHY ELSE would so many souls return to sit upon thrones and be PRIESTS of God for 1000 years?  As you said, it can't be for a '2nd chance', so it HAS TO BE for THEIR first one.

We get our names in the book of life THROUGH OUR FAITH, yet those of the Millennium will get their names (or maybe not) through their WORKS.  Certainly, all these details have meaning...

In this Jesus is referring to whoever from the Jews whether righteous or sinners who believe in him before his death on the Cross and they died before his death and resurrection. Jesus said for them that even they died they shall live. And the question is how? Because they died believing in him and they died as his people and when He will meet them at the place of the dead when He also will die then He will give them of his life. Like it happened with the thief on the Cross.

This is the second part of John 11:25-26.

In this statement Jesus is addressing whoever believes in him after the Cross and his resurrection.

Jesus is telling us that the people who believe in him after the Cross and his resurrection have received of his Life while yet lived. They are in him , they are the children of the Eternal Life. They are heirs together with him of his Heavenly Inheritance and they will always be alive to him. Their flesh will die one day but they will never die themselves, they will be always alive to Him for all eternity and after the flesh is gone they will be with him in their Heavenly Inheritance ALWAYS ALIVE TO HIM.

Is this difficult to digest?

Keep in mind that Jesus is referring to the Spiritual Man who lives in his physical body till this body of flesh, the earthly body cannot sustain life anymore and dies or dies before that from trauma or violence or from famine.

Is it not glorious the Gospel of Jesus Christ our risen Lord? Or you want to look for the living ones among the dead.

What can I say?

But and the but is very important that they should tell them that before they died while yet alive so they would have the chance to rejoice in the Lord Jesus Christ and die knowing that they are alive in Him and that always will be.

You're right; they are also read sometimes at unbelievers' funerals.

I've heard that some preachers who are asked to officiate a funerals of ppl about whom they are unsure, will concentrate on John 3.16 as a Gospel opportunity...

We should be slow to call anyone unbeliever, because if they were from another non-Christian faith the Rabbi would be officiating the service or the Imam or the Hindu Priest..or who ever.

JESUS CHRIST IS FOR ALL BELIEVERS AND NOT JUST THE DISCIPLES. they need to be told that Jesus is not theirs.

I guess I was using the term in the sense of someone who professes but is not apparently.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
