Shameless. I don't smoke, and I think it is a nasty habit...but how about letting people be dopes if they want to? Pretty soon it will be illegal to smoke in the house, on account of the kids. When will government-sponsored Nannies come around and tuck Junior in bed? After all, parents just can't be trusted to put him in bed at a decent hour. Oy. Where are you John Galt? There have been plenty of stories in my area of other peoples cigarette butts, carelessly tossed out the window, starting fires in other peoples cars. My front lawn is filled with cigarette butts that I have to clean up. I dont smoke. Neither does my husband. They come from smokers who toss cigarette butts out the window. I wouldnt mind this ban at all. Maybe now that trash will stop being a problem.

Guest LadyC
maybe instead of banning a legal activity, they should start enforcing littering laws and putting people in jail and fining them $500 for each butt tossed out a window. it is flat out WRONG to strip away people's legal rights. but enforcing laws that would make them accountable and responsible for the things they do which are ILLEGAL (such as littering with cigarette butts which account for any number of fires each year that destroy hundreds and thousands of acres) would be a reasonable thing to do. hard to enforce? well let's see... cops don't catch every person going over the speed limit and causing traffic accidents either. but it would make people stop and think before being careless if they got pulled over by cops when they were SEEN throwing out cigarettes. I have no problem with the government protecting kids from parents who won't give up their own needs for the sake of their children's health. I ban smoking in my own car. And when my kids were younger, my husband went outside to smoke. I've seen pregnant women smoking, and babies/children in smoke-filled rooms; with all the awareness of the dangers, people should have more sense. But, sadly they don't. For the record, I think it's just plain idiotic. One more step ahead for Communism in the world.
