In these modern times, and ever since the establishment of the Body of

Christ after Jesus' ascension to heaven, there have been a numerous amount of false prophets. They are very common in these times, and they

certainly were rampant in the times of the early christians. It seems, as the

old saying goes, they're a dime a dozen.

The Bible warns several times about false prophets. We must be very careful when dealing with those types, for they are very deceiving, for they

have slick tongues. Let's see where scripture opens up to the world of

false prophets.

In Matthew, it warns us that we must be cautious of false prophets who come in deceptive inwardly, but outwardly, come very innocently.

Matthew 7:15

15 "Beware of false prophets, which come

to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves."

After that, the book of Matthew indicates to us that we will know those who

are false by their fruits ( works, faith, etc.)

Matthew 7:16-20

16 "Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do

men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?"

17 "Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit."

18 "A good tree cannot bringeth forth evil

fruit, neither can a corrupt fruit bringeth forth good fruit."

19 "Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire."

20 "Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them."

Now, we will know them by their "fruits". This means that those who are

christian, and who are really well guided by the Lord Jesus Christ, will be able to tell who is false and who is true. This is called discernment.

1 John 4:1 states that we should try the spirits.

1 John 4:1

1 "Beloved, believe not every spirit,

but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false

prophet are gone out into the world."

This also most likely ties in with the prophecies foretold by Jesus Christ in Matthew 24. In Matthew 24, several verses correspond with the topic at hand. Jesus warns us there that many false prophets will be sent out into

the world nearing the time of the end, and the Day of the Lord.

Matthew 24:11,24

11 "And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many."

24 "For there shall arise false Christs, and

false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch

that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect."

In Peter, it also warns that there will be many false prophets and false teachers, who will come to spread heresies, and will claim absurd things.

2 Peter 2:1-2

1 "But there were false prophets also

among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who

privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord

that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction."

2 "And many shall follow their pernicious

ways: by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of."

Brethen, hear me now. Be careful, and be watchful of the times. Don't let

one of Satan's minions deceive you with a slick tongue, with a tongue of fire. Always glory in the Lord, and ask the Lord for discernment of any and all those who come claiming they are prophets of God. Let not yourself be-

come those who will hear not the truth, those who have itching ears.

Peace brethen, and may the Lord Jesus Christ bless you richly. :)

Thanks Crusader for the excellent post. We need look no further than this Board to see how subtle error can be. VOG posts in the name of the Lord yet butchers Scripture and has posted heresy. Many read his posts and don't know their Bibles well enough to even begin to see the deception. Many will follow him but as you have pointed out this was all prophesied in Scripture.

Hello brother. Well, I feel that those who are young believers should be cautious around those who claim to be prophets of God. Too many have been

strayed away from the flock, like sheep, because of false prophets, or those

who know not scriptures that well themselves.

Hear the word of the Lord again...

Come to Me, says the Lord, and I shall open your eyes and cause you to see and open your ears, so that you may hear. Do not trust in your own understanding or you will walk as the blind and deaf do. Wisdom and knowledge comes from Me alone! I speak truth through My prophets, but you recieve them not! The false prophets, you welcome with open arms because they tell you peace, when there is no peace. They tell you the things that tickle your ears. They tell you everything you are wanting to hear. I the Lord, your God, send My true ones to encourage and edify you with the truth, that will set you free... But you question them over and over again and all they have spoken has come from Me! Therefore, repent and come to Me and I will open your eyes to see. Your ears will hear what I'm speaking to you and then you will know Me and not be decieved!

Um, I don't get the relevance of this "word" to the topic at hand.

And I don't get why you seem so defensive when people test and question what it is you say. After all, John did tell us to test the spirits because many false prophets have gone out into the world. Please do not default to the answer I hear from the Hinns and Hagins of the world either..."touch not My anointed and do My prophets no harm." because I feel they prey on people who do not understand that they are to test also. I don't find it something requring repentance when you test the word to ensure that it is doctrinally correct (i.e., lines up with the Word). Even if a word is intended to rebuke or correct, it will line up with the scriptures, and I will accept that word if I find it as such.

I thought Crusader put together an excellent post that has much truth in it from the Word. Nice work, brother.

Bill, I agree with Crusaders post being total truth and in no way am I getting defensive. If you read the word I posted it deals straight with True and False prophets and by seeking out God more and getting to KNOW HIM we shall not be decieved. It was Word #1, I believe, that God gave me when I first came to the board.

I was adding to this thread not taking away from.

OK. Just felt like you were getting defensive about what Crusader had posted is all. I think he really searched the scriptures well and I felt maybe you were going against him to the point of negating the truth in his post.

My bad.

I am amazed at the fact that Crusader is 15 yrs. old and has the Godly knowledge and wisdom that he has. I assuredly thought he was at least in his 20's by his posts.

He is one of those that God is refering to in Word #17 !
