I realize 99.9% of christians believe it is a sin to get drunk. Probably the 1% aren't saved or just don't care. I have doubts...and I hate those. I realize everyone here will have a 100% strict answer but I don't have one. Maybe because I'm in college and everyone parties? I'm around it all the time? I'm not sure. But here's my doubt. It says in the bible that wine is a mocker...don't fall to drunkeness etc etc...where is the "do not get drunk" part? I can tell my friend, hey don't get wasted tonight you have an exam at 9am. It's obvious the right choice is to study and not go out. But he chooses to party and may or may not do well on the exam. His choice, none are wrong choices per say, one is obviously the better more "responsible" action, the other isn't. Not looking before pulling into traffic...not against the law per say unless you hit someone...obviously it's better to look and then cross. I've been drunk. It's fun. Sometimes I don't mean to..just happens..but if I do nothing wrong while drunk...say just watching a baseball game with a buddy of mine...where is the harm? I know about alcoholism but that's part of the smarter not to drink so much decision i've already gone over. I realize some think it's a sin to drink in any amount. I'm not looking for that either.

So I guess open the flood gates haha...but please be real honest...I'd rather have a hardcore response than sugar coating it.

God Bless...

Andrew

butero says:

"Becoming drunk is a sin and will keep those who commit it from having any inheritance in God's Kingdom."

SW:

So butero, do we now have a new list of unpardonable sins including getting drunk? Also I would say there is a vast difference between getting drunk and being a drunkard. I am having real trouble following you today. You say heresy is not sin, but getting drunk is? I think I will have another Guiness and ponder that!

Please read the Scriptures butero rightly quoted with prayer and let the Holy Spirit convict. Does the Bible mean what it says? Does God mean what He says?! I think He does!

It is a sin to be drunk and a drunkard is no more than one who habitually is drunk. The Holy Spirit will keep us from habitual sins. But, we must fully submit and respond to the Holy SPirit in htis or else quench the Spirit.

A born again Christian does not need to live in habitual sins.

He who is free in the Son is free indeed(and not slave to sin)

The Temple for the Holy Spirit is our bodies. We must think where we take HIm and how we do things, forHe is present in us.

WHO were the Niclotines(spI have forgoten the correct name of thes people BUt I have not forgot whathtey did nor how GOd feels about them!)?? the Bible says God hated the Niclotines...I will tell you..God hated them because they alwyas maed excuse for thier sin and continued in sin an dmaking excuses and GOD hated them! HE sais do NOT be like the N, who mmake excuse for sin...

man that says alot!

when one becomes drunk, one is less likely to feel "inhibited"... and sometimes inhibitions are a good thing. to be less inhibited because of alcohol means that you make foolish choices which can be harmful to your own, or to someone else's, physical, mental, and spiritual health.

however, i don't think a person who occasionally gets a little inebriated in the saftey of their own home with, for instance, their spouse, is going to be chastised by God.

but far more often than not, drunkenness leads to other sins. for example, driving intoxicated, habitual drunkenness, filthy speach, emotional and angry outbursts, endangering your life or a child's or someone else's, or at the very least, being a stumbling block for someone else., poor stewardship of money, or even of your TIME (getting drunk the night before an exam), etc etc.

it's pretty hard to be a witness for God's kingdom when we're sloppy drunk, know what i mean?

hey hat_town! how are ya. havent seen u around in a while. hope u are well

the scirpture u were looking for that says to not get drunk is found in ephesians 5. and i found a whole list of scriptures here that address the issue of drinking/getting drunk.

i will post ephesians 5 cos i think it sums it up pretty well....

1Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children 2and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. 3But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God's holy people. 4Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. 5For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person

Have you ever been to a restuarant and seen a menu where some offer drinks "with spirits" and "without spirits"? One is with alcohol and one is not.

There are "spirits" associated with alcohol.

Drinking isn't a sin as far as the Word of God goes. It's the excessive drinking where people open themselves to the spiritual world that causes the problem.

Remember what the Apostle Paul told the church at Ephesus?

Ephesians 5

"18": And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

"19": Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;

"20": Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

Then we see in Proverbs that even God's Word speaks of "strong drink" ...

Proverbs 31

"6": Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts.

Where is the parallel? I'll tell you from experience.

Both Ephesians 5 and Proverbs 31 in "context" are speaking on the subject of a man desiring woman in a marriage relationship. And it parallels how Christ loves us, His bride, as the church. They both exemplify the fact that truly love between a man and woman is spiritual intoxification.

Have you ever heard the expression "drunk in the Holy Ghost"? Truly it is being so overwhelmed in your soul with the love of God that everything is pure pleasure ... but in truth in Him.

Bless you with more of the Lord and may He show you what being filled with Him is all about. It's like being drunken with wine wherein is excess, but it's so much purer and there is no hangover! Praise Him for His everlasting mercy in Christ Jesus the Lord!

Glory be to God.

Peace.

brought unto youat the revelation of Jesus Christ.

1 Peter 4:7 But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore SOBER and watch unto prayer.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
