See you are off the hook! No really Whiteeagle, God sees your heart - raise your heart in church - I'm sure there are a lot of folks that don't do that. The Psalms speak of raising hands and clapping hands and playng instruments and dancing as physical expressioins of worship. None of it is required though for anything. I'm one that raises my hands, stomps my feet, claps my hands, the whole thing! And I would encourage anyone to do the same! But it isn't law. If it is in your heart, though, you can start at home when you are alone - just like you would kneel to pray (if you do that). Does that sound safe? There are people, many people, who are more private in their worship. If you are comfortable going farther like this at home, do it there instead. You can feel totally fine, just as spiritual, to not raise your hands. You have just as much of the Holy Spirit as those who do. You are no less a Christian than those who do. I wonder what God will say when you tell Him that you didn't worship Him with your whole body because your personality wasn't geared for it? I believe that God instructs us to worship with outstretched hands, dance, joyful jumping, stomping, shouting and all! We need to dance like David did! I can see if we are precluded from doing so by physical limitations, but not those of the mind. Our personalities and feelings should never constrain our fully worshiping the Most High God--ever! Whenever my feelings tell me I can't, I tell myself I will anyway--it's a sacrifice of praise! God loves it and He is blessed by it! What father wouldn't? It's all about Him! And Please Pray that my anxity goes away! I certainly do understand your feelings... I have also struggled with this as I am sometimes very self-conscious.... I found that when I close my eyes in worship it is between the Lord and I and my Praise is to Him alone... I do not let myself think about anything else or anyone else and then freely Praise Him.. I also pray for your anxiety to be overcome and you are able to Praise Him with your whole heart in the way you desire to Praise Him... I also have felt that way about praying in public ... But when I get brave and open my mouth God has been so faithful to give me the words to pray... Lord Bless you and make you fearless witness ... You should not feel pressured to express your devotion in such a manner if it is not natural to you. If you are, then seek another place to worship.
