And how is it that there evolved so many different cultures and skin colors??

What have you started my dear! Not that I can remember all things, but I do remember the names of Noah's sons refer to their skin colour--or maybe one or two of them---but that is how I was taught that the races were derived. As man was then dispersed throughout the globe freely moving and forming tribes of like peoples, these tribes would have common genetic factors. Races then formed, I believe. That is my understanding in a nutshell. We are sisters in Jesus, anyway!

As for skin color, the "Noah's sons" theory is a theory. It doesn't make sense, though, IMHO. Skin color adapted to the sun-intensity or lack thereof in places people moved to, not the other way around.

I agree. It totally makes sense when you look at where which people traditionally come from and sun-intensity.

It says "Japheth" means "opened", "Shem" means "name", and "Ham" means "sun-burnt."

I like the way Ken Ham from answers in Genesis explains this topic.
