I recently completed a study of the book of Job, which is about the sanctification of a saint(saint=one set apart for God's purpose, or separated to God), not the conversion of a sinner. For those who do not believe in the "afterlife", consider this:

"God is not a man, that he should lie....." Numbers 23:19(Romans 3:4, 2 Tim. 2:13,Titus 1:2,Hebrews 6:18)

___________________________________________________________________

"And there were born unto him seven sons and three daughters." Job 1:2

"His substance also was seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she asses, and a very great household;........." Job 1;3

"...also the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before." Job 42:10

Is this statement in Job 42:10 true? "What saith " the scripture of truth"(Daniel 10:21) ?

"So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: for he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she asses." Job 42:12 So far, so good. But wait- "He had also seven sons and three daughters." Job 42:13 To be consistent with verses 1:3 compared with 42:12, per verse 42:10, shouldn't Job been given fourteen sons and six daughters,i.e., twice the number he had before they were "taken away"(1:21)? Verse 42:13 says he had seven sons and three daughters, not "twice as much as he had before"(42:10) Did the LORD lie?

No! The LORD God "..is not a God of the dead, but of the living....(Luke 20:38, Mt. 22:32, Mk. 12:27,Jer. 10:10....and many more!) He considers Job's seven sons and three daughters that were killed(Job 1:19) still alive with Him! ( And also notice that Job did not arise(verse 1:20) until he had heard of the death of human beings,i.e., the material losses he suffered did not move him-it was only the loss of human life that grieved him-a great spiritual application for us believers). And also notice verse 42:16-Job lived to age 140- perhaps the prolongation of his life is a doubling of the age given in Psalms 90:10.

What a book! As it is written,

"It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter." Proverbs 25:2

"These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so." Acts 17:11

"... what advantageth it me, if the dead rise not? let us eat and drink; for to morrow we die. 1 Corinthians 15:32

To an athest: "Must we light a candle to see the sun?"

In Christ and with Christ,

John M. Whalen

Brother John,

I also studied Job in depth a few years ago. You hit the nail on the head brother. Job is mostly about spiritual growth and understanding and having a right relationship with God through the Son.

Look at this progression folks ----

Job lost everything

Job finds his redeemer. [Job 19:25-27]

I know that my Redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand upon the earth.  And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God; I myself will see him with my own eyes-I, and not another. How my heart yearns within me!

I love this love this love this!

Excellent post guys!

AMEN!!! :il:

I too have read the whole book of Job. It is fascinating and very informative. There is just so much there. There is so much instruction for the Christian.

I think you could spend a life-time on studying Job.

A valuable lesson in Job is this...

That in the last chapter...Job prays for his friends...

Then God turns the captivity of Job...

This shows me the power in prayer for our friends...

I think one of the reasons I most value the book of Job, is that it teaches us HOW to suffer. I hope that makes sense..

I also like to recognize that even with the words Jobs friends spoke, and their desire to try to work things out, there is something key that most if not everybody tends to MISS..

At least they went to SEE him....What must Job have looked like for his friends to see him even from far off and NOT recognize him. To sit with him for SEVEN days without uttering a single word...How greiving must this experience have been...??? For everyone, not just Job, but his friends also...

He had good friends as they went to visit him in his time of need....

Lets also not forget something else here.....Often WE can be exactly like Jobs friends, trying to explain to people why certain things happen...Trying to work things out and find reason for everything..I think the greatest lesson we take from the book of Job is that it has been placed in the bible for us to LEARN from..Everything that Job went through was for OUR benefit, that we might learn..I dont think there is a book in the bible quite like Job....It teaches us how easily we can condemn, it teaches us how to suffer with grace, and it teaches us great wisdom.....The bible would be incomplete without the book of Job..

Regards,

Ben.

I just read Job a couple of weeks ago and there is so much in it to consider..

I could not read it without taking down many notes to remind me of what was said so I could come back and "consider" it again...

I really enjoyed the Book very much...

I have decided that instead of continuing on through the Bible to go over Job again.

It is not like I have not read it several times before it is just that for some reason it is especially interesting to me now.

The friends going to him and not even recognizing him and petitioning God for him for all those days caught my attention also....

and you never hear , in conversations about the book of Job, anything good about his friends..

Well...If I had friends that spent 7 days speechless and petitioning God for me I would have something good to say about them...

I have come away with a different perspective on it...

Quite a Book indeed... :emot-fail:

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
