Debate on the Biblical view of Universal Salvation

My opponent would have us believe that death will have the final say for the unrepentant dead. However, the Bible paints a much more glorious picture. Death itself, we are told, will be annihilated (1 Corinthians 15:26; Revelation 20:14)!

Death will simply be swallowed up into the lake of fire, along with all those who reject Christ. There is no hope for anyone who dies without Jesus.

The bottom line is that Universalism, be it "Christian" or any other type, has as its root a rejection of Jesus as the only way to the Father. By claiming that a man or woman can be "cleansed" by fire in hell, it creates a second option. As such, it not only removes the urgency for presenting the Gospel but it also provides a means for nonChristians to feel secure in thinking that they can live in sin today, but ultimately receive a second chance after death.

The idea that all people will ultimately be saved is a flat contradiction of the words of Jesus who stated that gate that marks the way to eternal life is a narrow one and few will find it. Jesus tells us that the gate that leads to destruction is wide and many will find it. Jesus did not refer to a gate leading to "remedial punishment" but destruction. The lie of Universalism is one of the most pernicious lies Satan has ever concocted.

I am now finished and this thread may be locked.
