Siegel denied that AT&T was targeting cash customers and said his company offers pay-as-you-go pre-paid phones that are better suited for consumers who want to pay in cash.

yeah, and the rates for those prepaid phones are more than double what you get with any cellular plan. so much for "not targeting the cash paying customers". what a crock!

i think this is what busniesss is...cost them more because they are nocommited...u pay less because u have a plan...right? not a conspiracy against cash people... what u think?

but it DOES target those who are poor or have bad credit.

how does it target them? or what does that mean target them?

it means it charges that group of people more for service.... it means they are intentionally putting poor people or those with bad credit at a disadvantage financially to have a phone.

everybody pays more when paying cash? in what alternate universe? when i go to the grocery store, the price for a gallon of milk is the same whether i'm paying cash or not. when i'm at a restaurant, there is no menu for cash payers and a separate one for credit payers.

credit card payers pay extra in terms of interest... those are not the cash payers. those who are poor or have bad credit scores aren't usually eligible for credit, therefore they end up paying less in the long run.

poor people don't qualify for mortgages.

car lots.. oh now you hit a good one. yes, they charge enormous interest rates because they will extend credit to anyone who walks in off the street as long as they have a bank account. yes, they're taking advantage of poor people. the car lot owners get rich off the backs of poor people.

is it legal? sure. is it fair? no way.

now let's go back to the idea of a company charging more for cash paying customers for utilities that ARE necessary... there is no defense for the practice.

more when paying cash when paying your bills there...poor and rich when paying cash paythe same if paying by cash..

cars..you as a poor person would not be able to get a car if they did not extend you credit...i messed your point there...

not saying you are poor..i meant a poor person...whatever..

just dont see them as taking advantage of poor people...

honestly i worked as a car salesman for about 3 months and they will take advantage of you poor or rich!!!!!!!!

if you ever need advise on how to buy a car cheap i can help....lol

new car sales do take advantage of you regardless of your bank account, UNLESS you are paying cash. those who pay cash for new cars are able to bargain a far better price than someone who is putting down the minimum down payment. same with houses. cash price on major purchases like that are always lower than the financed price, and i'm talking about before interest.

and i've never met a rich person who paid their utility bills by cash, have you? they're willing to pay extra for the convenience of not having to wait in line at whatever store accepts payments. i've done that before, and i'd pay extra for the convenience of not paying cash too!

anyway, i am poor. not by everyone's standards, but THIS year it sure feels like it!

oh, here's another type of business that gets rich off poor people. loan sharks (aka payday loan companies). oh my gosh, it should be illegal to charge that much interest!

I know what it means to be poor...but it's just business they are not out to get you...you can pay the same price for a car as the rich....except you dont have the money so you would have to pay interest on a loan...that's a good deal not a bad...

trust me you can get the same deal...do not let your bad feeling of being poor get to you...i am willing to bet i have been poorer with more kids homeless than you...not saying that in a mean way just trying to let you know that i have too been poor and have struggled with what you are talking about

like i said, by many people's standards, i wouldn't be seen as poor... but right now i certainly feel that way. i guess everyone does with the economy the way it is right now.

but you are wrong about the cars. yes, rich people buying on credit probably get roughly the same deal as a poor person buying on credit, except for the lower interest rate. what i'm saying though, is if a rich person pays CASH for a car out right (no financing), they get huge discounts off the price as well as not having to pay interest. i'm serious! you used to work at a dealership, so i'm sure you're aware of this, although you may never have run across anyone coming in to pay cash for a car during the few months you were in sales. but if during those months, you never had this experience, try this out... go to any car dealership (dressed like you have money), and be eyeballing a high-dollar car. ask to speak directly with the manager of the dealership, and make a cash offer that you know would be well below an offer they'd normally extend, and see how much they knock off.

i have a couple of rich relatives... they've gotten some amazing bargains by paying cash.

It's the way it's charged, too. They all rob us blind--credit cards, auto loans, my overdraft protection account.

At my local Kroger they opened the 'self check out' line but almost NO ONE goes through it. The assistant manager walks up and down trying to direct people there but mostly just gets dirty looks, hisses, or flat out "That's your job, not mine" from shoppers. It really hasn't been very successful. Why should we check ourselves out when the stores are charging more and more all the time?

At our stores, especially Walmart, they don't give you much choice, as most of the checkouts are unmanned, and only a couple have cashiers.

It is the younger crowd who are excepting things like the self check out. I use it because why should I stand in line for just a few items. I was talking to a lady once who told me that she couldn't wait for the common use of the micro-chip because it made her feel more secure with regards to her bank accounts and such. The world is full of people who think just like she does. The masses are already being deceived.

it's not the technology which is bad...right? it's what the devil people will use it for when the appointed time comes...

All of this technology is a tool of the enemy.

The mark of the beast and a cashless society are both interconnected and are actually all about being put into bondage to the things of this world. No more trading or bartering of any kind. No more freedom to do as we wish. Everything as we know it today will be out of our control and those who buck the system will be unable to get a job, buy food, electricity, gas, pay bills, go to school, have a bank account or anything else without electronic access to your funds. A church won't be able to collect tithe's, have a ministry, have a building to operate out of and we won't be able to give tithes without electronic transfers.
