Going along with those comments, and maybe teaching you something, as you say you wish to learn. What the bible calls the bolded parts of your post is called pride. The first of the 7 deadly sins?
And as to saying in order to learn you must compare the Christian's belief's to what you believe. Could you tell me what you do believe? You see teaching is a two way street, there are questions and there are answers. Now I will agree with you not all the answers make sense, nor do you have to agree with them, but you entered Worthy as an unbeliever, seeking answers by your own admission, so what do you believe?
Blessings
I would be happy to share what I believe (Share, not preach. lol).
However, I do not wish to hijack this post. It's going in so many directions already. Plus, I do not wish to force someone to hear my beliefs unless they wish to. So, I will see if this forum allows private messages, and I will write something up for you tomorrow. If it does not support PM, we can set a time in the chat room, or I can make a new thread or something.
As for your claim that my desire to make others think originating from pride, I would allow for that possibility. The human mind is such a complex thing. One can say that they know why they do things, but who really knows for sure? At least on the surface, I like to believe that I am doing my part to further enlightenment for others. Even if I say something dumb, and it reaffirms what someone else feels, that is okay by me. Even better is if I actually mutter something intelligent and it causes them to think hard about what I said. Even if their conclusion does not fit what I have said I still consider it a success. I just like to help people, or cause people, to reach that level of deep thought.
In the end, I don't feel it matters who "wins" a debate concerning religion or spiritualism. The hope is that we all learn something through the process of discussing the matter. I came to Worthy Chat because I wanted to learn more about Christianity, and most here have been surprisingly helpful.
