Yes, the 'rest' that Paul was speaking of was a spiritual rest...and the Sabbath is more of a physical rest. Wow! You were an Adventist for as long as I have lived! I am 27! Thanks for the website information...I read most of it already. It's interesting. If you have found Jesus in another church...then good for you! I pray that the Lord will continue to reveal himself to you. Even though on this issue we will probably continue to disagree...it's refreshing to meet someone that knows how to disagree, and speak in kindness. God Bless you, Word

I'm not sure about this one. Everyone knows that works can't save us. They might be somewhat mis-informed in the zeal. In my opinion, the only way people could be lost is if they disobey God, but if they don't know it...I'm not so sure God would still destroy his people. I believe what the Bible says "Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin." James 4:17 So I believe we could possibly see Muslims in heaven...(in my opinion) But the Sabbath cannot save anyone. God Bless Suzanne.

Arthur, thank you for this information on the SDA name. If your desire is to see that the name is changed, please go to Jesus with this request...I can do nothing about it. Also, I justed wanted to let you know that William Miller was a Baptist. Thanks and God bless.

I somewhat agree with you on this one. I also believe the rest that this verse talks about is a spiritual rest, but I wouldn't say that this rest takes the place of Sabbath rest. To me Hebrews 4 isn't actually accepting or rejecting the Sabbath, but rather using the Sabbath as an example in order to show us how to walk victoriously in Christ. Hebrews 4:10 says "For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his." Paul knew that our works cannot save us when he wrote "But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness" Romans 4:5 Our works don't matter...it's God's works that makes the difference. To me not believing in Christ would be the only reason that you are not entered into the rest...but I don't think keeping the Sabbath means you haven't entered into that rest. "And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not? So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief." Hebrews 3:18:19 Thanks for reading.

Hey guys, I was wondering if I could get in on the discssion. Here is my thoughts on it: I would agree that, the Day of Atonement, sabbath pointed to the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. (Lev. 23:27-32) I would disagree that the Sabbath of creation pointed to Jesus Christ. The world was perfect with no sin ("And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good." Genesis 1:31) In my opinion, there was no need of a promised saviour to come rescue His people at the time the Sabbath was created. Thanks for reading.

Hello, I haven't done much research on this, but I believe your Pastor is correct. Most likey he got his information from Genesis 2:6 "But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground." It's believed that this is the only way the earth was watered before the flood. I hope this helps somewhat.

Arthur, are the 10 commandments still binding today?

Arthur, I am sorry that the name 7th day adventist offends you. I have tried to show you how the name Seventh Day Adventists came about. I don't know how else to convey the information to you. However, I don't understand the point that you are trying to make. Just because a name isn't referred to in God's Word doesn't necessariy mean that it's bad...or you would need to change the name "Aurthur" also. Aurthur, use the message board wisely. We are waisting this website arguing whether the name 7th Day Adventist is valid or not. The name of the church is no so important to me...it's what the church believes teaches that matter. My goal is not to offend you and I hope your goal is the same. Thanks for reading.

Aurthur, I didn't respond to this piece, because I'm not sure what this annihilation doctrine is. I have searched the EGW website to see what your talking about, but I couldn't find it. Maybe you could clarify this with a quote from her or something. However, I will try to clarify (with scripture) what I believe about the soul. We all understand that the spirit goes back to God. "Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it." Ecclesiastes 12:7 The soul is sorta like "the body" or "person" This is why Luke says "And we were in all in the ship two hundred threescore and sixteen souls." Acts 27:37 This is why Moses says "And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." Genesis 2:7 The soul can die. A dead soul rests in the grave until Jesus comes. However, the spirit returns to God who gave it...and we see that Jesus confirms that when it says "And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost." Luke 23:46 God wanted man to understand from the beginning that there is no consciousness in death...and so He told Adam "In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return." Genesis 3:19 I hope this helps explain somewhat. God bless

I wasn't aware that anything that is valid has to be repeated in the New Testament. Do you have any scriptures that state this?
-
I believe the church of Christ is still called Israel: "And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise. "Galatians 3:29 "For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people." Hebrews 8:10 Also we will live in New Jerusalem: "And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband." Revelation 21:2

I thought I addressed this already, but I don't remember if you responded: If you don't mind I would like to answer your question with another question: Ok. Don't you believe that Adultery is a sin still? How come u don't believe in the penalty of adultery? "And the man that committeth adultery with another man's wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbor's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death." Lev. 20:10

I never stated that God made Adam keep the Sabbath...(even though I believe he did) but the Bible doesn't go into detail about that so I can't comment on it. Why do you say that I made an issue about it. I don't worship Adam...I worship God. And the Bible says that He rested on the 7th Day.

Of course there is salvation outside of SDA church. The SDA or any other church cannot save someone, salvation is through Jesus Christ. If any SDA is teaching that then they have been mis-informed. In my opinion...in heaven we will see muslims and other religions that followed all the light that they had. Sure. If the Lord is telling you to reject them...who am I to tell you to accept them? I am sure you are already a Christian in good standing with God.

Horizon, you're taking to long to respond back. I got to go to bed now...I just got married a month ago and my wife is going to kill me...It's 11:17 pm in FL! Please let me know when you come back and we can look at the Mark of the Beast according to the Bible. Thanks for the response. God Bless

Assembly doesn't make a Sabbath day. So whether me or you esteem one day above another...in the end obeying what God says is most important.
-
Arthur, let me reason with you for a second. According to your beliefs you are saying that the Sabbath was done away with because of the death of Jesus Christ, right? Well then that brings me to another question...How come the 7th Day Sabbath was created before sin? The Bible says "And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made." Genesis 2:2-3 It would be one thing if the Bible said "God blessed the 7th day because man sinned," but the Bible says "because he had rested from all His work." You previously quoted Galations 3:19 "It [the law] was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator." The Sabbath was created before transgression......why would the death of Christ remove it?
-
Thanks for the very good response. I belive you are correct. We should focus more on the Lord.

You got it! 2 Corinthians 5:4 says - "For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life." Paul, when talkiing about our heavenly bodies says "not that we would be unclothed"....in other words, not that we would die. Paul knew that right after death he would not get his heavenly reward, that's why he later stated "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing." 2 Timothy 4:7-8 Paul looked to the 2nd coming of the lord, not to death because he knew that is when he would receive his heavenly reward.

Oh yea, Arthur...you never addressed my question - How does the Bible define sin?
