(Sorry is this has been asked before) What do you think about the Pope's remarks about Islam, and the Muslim reaction to it?
-
Alexander the Great, Plato, Aristotle, Socrates.... Julius Caesar, Caesar Augustus. Many people, actually. And I used to think I knew Jesus. I thought he was God. I've changed a bit eh?

Excuse me? Evolution is an accepted fact among nearly all biologists. You mean "accepted theory". Oooh, now we get into the little technicalities that scare away would-be debaters. "Creationists make it sound as though a 'theory' is something you dreamt up after being drunk all night." - Isaac Asimov My copy of the OED (year 1971) says theory is: 1. A sight, a spectacle (obsolete) 2. Mental view, contemplation 3. A conception or a mental scheme of something to be done, or of the method of doing it; a systematic statement of rules and guidelines to be followed. 4. A scheme or system of ideas or statements held as an explanation or account for a group of a group of facts or phenomena; a hypothesis that hasd been confirmed or established by observation or experiment, and is propounded or accepted for the following facts; a statement of what are held to be general rules, principles, or causes of something known or observed. 5. In the abstract (without article): Systematic conception of or statement of the principles of something; abstract knowledge, or the formulation of it. The bold is what is considered a scientific theory. From dictionary.com: 1. a coherent group of general propositions used as principles of explanation for a class of phenomena: Einstein's theory of relativity. 2. a proposed explanation whose status is still conjectural, in contrast to well-established propositions that are regarded as reporting matters of actual fact. 3. Mathematics. a body of principles, theorems, or the like, belonging to one subject: number theory. 4. the branch of a science or art that deals with its principles or methods, as distinguished from its practice: music theory. 5. a particular conception or view of something to be done or of the method of doing it; a system of rules or principles. 6. contemplation or speculation. 7. guess or conjecture. Once again, the bold is the scientific theory. When one is talking about a scientific theory, it means an idea that has held up against scrutiny and is generally accepted. It is not, as Asimov humourously points out, an idea made on a whim or an idea without proper evidence or background. There is often a general misunderstanding of the word theory when it is used in debating purposes. When it is used in debating, the default "theory" is scientific. It is faulty reasoning to assume that a theory is not true based on its status as a theory. Of course, evolution is not the only theory. Try the theories of relativity and gravity. Both are accepted as true; yet both are nevertheless theories. As I have said, a theory stands up to scrutiny, is not fallacious, and it is generally accepted. It is not a "rule in pending".

In the original Bible, the word is yom, which is a 24 hour period, not a "metaphorical day". If it was "millions of years", the Bible wouldn't refer to the evening and morning of each day. "The Hebrew word for

Better put, we are talking about the idea of the Christian god, and what would be true if he did exist. how utterly silly. ya know, i have two daughters. i have a husband. i have friends. but to you, i'm just some unseen force sitting at a keyboard somewhere typing a bunch of garbage. you've never met my daughters, or my husband, or my friends. those are people that i have a personal relationship with... but as far as you know, i could be making them up. to you, i could just be delusional. but ya see, i DO know them, i DO have a personal relationship with them. and whether or not you believe it or not, doesn't make it untrue, doesn't make any of them non-existant. same for God. just because YOU don't know Him, and refuse to have a relationship with Him, doesn't mean He doesn't exist. God shows mercy to them who choose to know Him. for those of you who don't, the consequences must seem very mean indeed. God, in His infinite capacity to love even the most hard-headed unlovable people, still offered you life. that is more kindness than any of us deserve. but God is also a JUST God. and justice must be done. those who refuse to know Him will perish. it would be an injustice for those who hated God to enter heaven and inherit His kingdom equally with those of us who loved Him. Except you can be proven. Give me your name and we can plug it into google. Give us your phone number, and we can call you. You cannot "speak" with God. You cannot ask him to come down to your house and have dinner.

You did it again. Did what?

Better put, we are talking about the idea of the Christian god, and what would be true if he did exist. Yep. I'm not so good with words, sorry. XD Err, why not debate God? Maybe we'll turn some people over to the Truth. I've been reading your post's and I know you won't admit it, but I do believe you know what the Truth is. And no, it's not the arguement you're putting forward. What do those letters mean at the end of your sentences? XD is a smiley face thing. A laughing emoticon. And no, I totally reject the idea of Jesus, and please stop pretending like I accept the ideas of him or God. I don't.

Isn't it obvious that I'm trying to say he doesn't exists? If He doesn't exist...who are calling mean? The idea, of course. I prefer to think of it as this: For the purpose of this debate, we are agreeing that the Christian God is true. Since that term has been agreed to, we are debating the actuality of his powers and such.

funny joke. if you don't want God's gift, then you shouldn't have expectations and demands that He stick around and help you stay alive. little different from a policeman who swore to protect your life even if you didn't want his help. So God doesn't care about all of his creation, just the Christians?
-
Oh. Well, if a policeman witnesses an attempted murder but does nothing, does that mean he did nothing wrong? It sure means he isn't omnibenevolent!!! Yeah, he isn't obligated to help someone stay alive just because he CAN and people expect him to.
-
Oh. Well, if a policeman witnesses an attempted murder but does nothing, does that mean he did nothing wrong?
-
Wait a second. You say that it's free will for these people to die of things they can't help?
-
Oh, so God just doesn't do anything about it, when it's entirely within his powers to do so.
-
Oh, so God makes people hurt because of other people's problems? Sounds like a wonderful thing to worship.
