Just because feelings are 'chemical reactions' does not mean they aren't real, but of course you'd think different.

Nope Neither According to the Bible, I'd have a one way ticket to hell

I would, though I wouldnt feel as though I deserved a second chance Devote my life to God and spread the word as best I could I wouldn't feel stupid, I'd just wonder what signs for Gods existence I missed or overlooked (cause as far as I'm concerned, there are no signs)

You know what...I like how you think, though i may disagree now, you'll be happy to know you have at least got me thinking...I'll ponder it for the mean time and get back to you

There are no right or wrong decisions with choosing black or white door, so I haven't neglected anything. The doors mean nothing about life and death. He wasn't clear enough. He told Adam if he ate from the tree, he would surely die. Remember, Adam has NO KNOWLEDGE of DEATH so telling him he would DIE isn't clear at all. I don't believe I was created to perish, because I don't believe I was created at all. So it has nothing to do with pride, nothing at all. I'm not a sinner (in the sense that you see it) but I am not a perfect person either. I don't think I'm 'too good to be damned', since, I don't believe in any form of salvation or damnation. Well, seeing how your God doesn't exist, I wouldn't say He was wrong and I'm right. Just because the salvation is there, is no reason for me to take it. Even IF I was hear still because I'm hungry for the truth, I still starving my friend and yet to be fed.

I still don't follow you. If God KNEW the person I would be (non-believer of Christ, etc) BEFORE he created me, HE made the DECISION to let me remain an unbeliever, although he allegedly had the POWER and KNOWLEDGE to make sure I knew Christ. Now, since He DECIDED I would remain an unbeliever, then surely I was created to perish unsaved, so of course I wouldn't see any reason necessary for me to be saved. Who willingly chooses death?? And what does the tree of life and death have to with two doors ??

Hmmm...I see a problem with this. You say "He reveals Himself in the Bible and realized these very traits of God are in all men". Could it be that God only has these traits of man, because man wrote the Bible with a pre-conceived idea that God has the very traits of man??
-
That's the thing though, who is the source the truth comes from? You can't expect me to assume it comes from your God. And for the record, I'm not an atheist, I'm more agnostic if anything.

How is it that my internal desire for love is an 'internal truth' about God? Why can't it be the internal truth about Vishnu? Or Shiva? Or Allah? Not to be disrespectful, but you have to realize that your God is as 'real' to me, as any other god in the world. Let's take a look at the internal truths about Allah.

I more or less started this thread just so people can ask questions and to get a glimpse of where I'm coming from and how I think. I wouldn't say I've learned anything in particular yet, but I do hope that I'll be able to learn from someone before this thread starts to die down.

HE DID! Shame on him now we should send him to the "Plagiarism" post cuz he didn't even give you credit lol, actually, if you read back a couple pages when I found out someone else had been doing a post very similar to this, I said that Ask An Atheist had reasonable ground to believe I stole (I really don't like that word) the idea from him . I offered no compensation, but one should also note that both myself and Ask An Atheist are two different people, so our ideas and opinions may differ. Seriously, not surprised but at least you admit it. You should offer compensation if you agree you stole it lol, i didn't agree that I stole it, I just said he had reasonable grounds to believe I did. In all honesty I wasn't even aware that he had already started a thread like this one, mostly because I only view the apologetics forum. Maybe I should browse the site more

I apologize, but I always find it tricky to answer questions concerning my values, so could you be a little more specific, sorry. I really wouldn't consider myself an atheist (actually, I don't know what I consider myself ), but I think I can answer your question. I don't think they are interested in discrediting believers. It's just that, religion can tend to be that annoying fly that's buzzing around your head, and rather then sit there and do nothing, you have to swing at it a couple times to make it go away. I wouldn't limit this to only religion though, atheists can also be an annoying fly as well . As for understanding the world, everyone goes through that point where they are seeking. Some find an understanding that's clear and some may even doubt their understanding now and then. There are also those who haven't come to a satisfying understanding, such as myself, who will continue to search until they are fully aware of where they stand.

ok, basically what my question was is do you believe an emotion or feeling is a chemical reaction, or would you describe it as a non physical occurence, something tangible, but not physically real in the sense. I think I posted my question when I was really sleepy, I should make a point of not using forums when Im tired, lol, so hopefully this will make more sense if the first one was hard to read. oooh okay, I think I got what you mean. I'd have to say then, no, I don't believe, I know that emotions/feelings are chemical reactions (and Ask An Atheist broke it down nicely ). I curious, what do you think they are?? lol, to tell you the truth, 'lypse' was taken from Apocalypse, I just found it inappropriate to use that as my username

lypse, What kind of evidence do you require? A stained nail with Jesus' blood on it so you can do a standard DNA test? Even if I had the stained nail, what would I compare it to, to know that it was the Jesus' DNA?? And would a stained nail show he was nailed to a cross?? What it was driven through his heart?? What if his legs were broken with the nail?? I'm not gonna bother explain what evidence I need because it's been discussed twice already by me.
-
I'd have to say both, but I don't know how to explain it . Like, the situation will cause you to act a certain way, but I the bodies reaction is what makes you feel the emotion. lol, that's the best I can come up with. and no I don't mind,

In a sense I do care, even though I don't know you personally. We're all connected to others in some way (friends, parents, children, family, etc). If you were to die, although it wouldn't affect me personally, it would affect those around you, and I'm sympathetic to their feelings (as well as yours ). I always say it's best to make the most of your life for both yourself and others. From the way I see it, this is the only life we got, so it's best to make the most out of it. Have I answered your questions to your liking??

The problem with the references to Jesus are that some of them are hearsay accounts and the others could have no regards to Jesus per se. With regards to Josephus, Pliny Suetonius and Tacitus, all their writings indicate is that they had heard of Jesus, most likely by Christians. Even Josephus' writings that mention Jesus is acknowledged to have been altered by Christians.

Okay, let's look at this again. Other then the Bible, there is no evidence that Jesus walked the Earth. Now, based on the evidence I have not seen, I can say, until you or anyone else can show me otherwise, that Jesus did not exist. It's the same thing with the unicorns. There is a lack of evidence to attribute to their existence, so they must not have existed. You say certain dinosaurs did not exist until their bones were discovered. The problem with that is, dinosaur species aren't as specific as bringing about the idea of unicorns and Jesus. If you look for dinosaur bones, you can either find fossils of known dinosaurs, or stumble upon something new. However, the unicorn was a fictional idea with no evidence to back it up, and from the looks of things, the same could be said with Jesus. Now, with a lack of evidence, I can say unicorns and Jesus never existed. Now, if I say they never existed, I can also say you will never find a unicorns footprints nor will you find anything penned by Jesus. Why?? Because if something never existed, there is no way that this something could have left evidence for it's existence. We may disagree on His existence, but to me (and not only myself), Jesus never walked the Earth (until you or anyone else can show me otherwise), therefore He never wrote a thing. I wouldn't be so ignorant to say this is limited to Jesus of course. There are countless others throughout history whose very existence is under the light of question as well. My argument will only look 'ridiculous' to those who have viewpoints different from mine, so that's barely 'common' sense.

It was truly a pleasent read, thank you for that

Thank's Billie, that's very sweet of you

JL, as ted said, it's not that bad. I've been getting hit with scripture for a long time now, so it's nothing new. I wouldn't say they are brainwashed though. They have strong faith in what they believe in, and they will defend it with all their heart. I'd say they consider our points, but deny them because they are 'lies' in their eyes. I actually enjoy answering their questions
