  1. By Stefan J. Bos, Chief International Correspondent Worthy News LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND (Worthy News) – A man was detained late Monday after he allegedly used his car to hit England’s soccer club Liverpool FC’s Premier League victory parade, leaving many in the city of Liverpool center injured. Authorities described the suspect as a 53-year-old white British man, saying he was detained at the scene of the collision on Water Street in the heart of the city, meters (feet) away from the Royal Liver Building and the town hall. Witnesses said the accident occurred after roads had been reopened following the main parade. “Scenes of jubilation with thousands of Liverpool fans lining the streets to celebrate their club’s Premier League victory were rapidly replaced with scenes of fear and confusion, as emergency services arrived on the street at about 6 p.m. [local time],” Britain’s The Guardian newspaper commented. Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the scenes “appalling,” while Liverpool FC offered its “thoughts and prayers” to those affected by the incident. Footage showed police cordons in place around the heavily littered road, with a significant police presence, ambulances, and a fire engine at the scene. Dramatic images seen by Worthy News captured a driver purposely driving his vehicle into the crowd. The car was then stormed by an angry crowd and a person was being taken away on a stretcher. DOZENS INJURED About 30 people were reportedly treated for injuries or shock in an Italian restaurant opposite Liverpool town hall, around the corner from the scene of the collision. The motive for the possible attack wasn’t immediately clear. Witnesses were in shock. “I grabbed my daughter and dived out of the way,” recalled Matt Cole, a reporter for the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) who happened to be on the scene. “Just after 18:00 [local time], a car drove down Dale Street towards the Strand. This was about 10 minutes after the bus carrying the Liverpool team had passed by,” Cole recalled in remarks monitored by Worthy News. “Thousands of people were walking down Dale Street when a commotion broke out, and people began screaming as a car drove through the crowd.” The car, Cole added, “carried on, as it passed by men gave chase, the rear window was broken. An ambulance trying to make its way through the crowd was forced to stop by the size of the crowd, and this formed a barrier in the road, which forced the car to stop.” The incident occurred shortly before Liverpool FC paraded the Premier League trophy, a moment that seemed all but forgotten as the extent of the tragedy became clear. It came at a time of anxiety in numerous European cities after similar accidents in recent years that were often linked to acts of Islamic terrorism. An investigation into the reasons for Monday’s tragedy was still ongoing. The post Car Drives Into Liverpool Crowd; Dozens Injured appeared first on Worthy Christian News. View the full article
  2. Friend, step into your inheritance! Joshua 1:2-3 “Moses my servant is dead. Now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, into the land that I am giving to them, to the people of Israel. 3 Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given to you, just as I promised to Moses. After Moses’ death, God commissioned Joshua to lead Israel into Canaan—a real place that carried profound spiritual meaning. Canaan was not a picture of heaven, for it was filled with enemies, obstacles, and the ongoing need for faith and obedience. Instead, it symbolized the believer’s journey: a life marked by conflict and conquest, failure and faithfulness, struggle and surrender. Just as Joshua was told to rise and cross the Jordan, every follower of Christ is called to move beyond mere spiritual survival into a victorious, Spirit-empowered walk—a life that embraces the fullness of God’s promises with courage, rest, and purpose. Joshua is the book of fulfillment—the moment the children of Israel realized that God’s promises were no longer just declared, but now had to be possessed. It reflects every believer's journey: while some remain stuck in the wilderness of spiritual frustration and defeat, others move forward into the "Promised Land" of a Spirit-filled, surrendered life. The difference isn’t about salvation, but about how fully we yield to God’s call to go deeper. Taking the land of Canaan first and foremost represents victory—not the absence of battle, but triumph in the midst of it. Yeshua (Jesus) offers more than just forgiveness; He promises authority over sin. "Sin shall not have dominion over you." (Romans 6:10-14) By the power of the Holy Spirit, believers are empowered to live as overcomers. (1 John 5:4-5) Taking the land also represents realization—when God’s promises move from abstract truth to lived experience. The Holy Spirit brings spiritual realities to life within the believer, making them deeply personal and powerfully real. Love, joy, strength, and intimate fellowship with God are not just concepts—they become felt, known, and tangible. Entering and possessing the land symbolizes a life of power. Just as Jericho’s walls fell—not by human strength, but by God’s command—so the believer is given spiritual authority to walk in boldness, victory, and fruitfulness, it is not by might or by effort, but by the power of the Spirit (Zechariah 4:6; Luke 10:19; 2 Corinthians 10:4-5) that strongholds fall and the life of promise unfolds. Friend, the call to enter the land is God’s invitation to every believer to move from wandering to walking, from surviving to thriving, from promise to possession. This is not a distant idea but a present reality for those willing to trust, surrender, and obey. The inheritance is before you—rich with victory, rest, power, and divine presence. But it must be seized by faith. Just as God told Joshua, He tells us: “Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you.” Step forward. Cross your Jordan. Claim your inheritance. The fullness of God’s promises awaits the fully surrendered heart. 3. by Worthy News Washington D.C. Bureau Staff (Worthy News) – Texas is poised to become the largest state in the U.S. to require all public school classrooms to display the Ten Commandments, following a weekend House vote on a controversial bill that has sparked national attention and legal warnings. The Texas House passed Senate Bill 10 on Sunday, May 25, by a vote of 82-46, after an initial approval the day before. The legislation mandates that every classroom in the state post a copy of the Ten Commandments, taken from the King James Bible, in a format no smaller than 16 by 20 inches. The text must match the version displayed on the monument outside the state Capitol in Austin. The bill had previously passed the Senate in March by a 20-11 margin. With minor amendments added in the House — including a provision requiring the state to cover any legal expenses incurred by school districts — the measure now returns to the Senate for final approval before heading to Republican Governor Greg Abbott, who is expected to sign it into law. The mandate would take effect in September 2025. Supporters say the Ten Commandments are foundational to American values and history, and that their display in classrooms would help restore moral clarity and discipline among young people. “It is incumbent on all of us to follow God’s law and I think we would all be better off if we did,” said Rep. Candy Noble (R-Lucas), who carried the bill in the House. Rep. Brent Money (R-Greenville) echoed that sentiment during debate: “Our kids in public schools need prayer, need Bible reading, more now than they ever have.” The legislation is part of a broader effort in Texas to reintroduce religious language and traditions into public education. In recent years, the state passed a law requiring schools to display “In God We Trust” signs if donated, and the state board of education approved Bible-infused teaching materials. Other current bills would establish school prayer periods and require teachers to use “A.D.” and “B.C.” when teaching history. Opponents say the bill is a clear violation of the First Amendment’s Establishment Clause and an unconstitutional endorsement of religion by the state. They also warn that it could alienate non-Christian students and provoke costly legal challenges. “Public schools are not supposed to be Sunday school,” said Clay Robison, spokesperson for the Texas State Teachers Association, which opposes the bill. Civil liberties groups have raised constitutional concerns, pointing to a recent federal court decision in Louisiana that struck down a nearly identical law. That ruling, now under appeal, found the mandatory display of the Ten Commandments in classrooms to be a government endorsement of religion. Legal scholars, including George Washington University law professor Robert Tuttle, warned that the Supreme Court’s past decisions — including a 1980 ruling against a Kentucky classroom display — could come back into play. While the Court has recently leaned more conservative, Tuttle noted that its recent decision to reject a religious charter school in Oklahoma suggests it has not abandoned the separation of church and state. “The constant presence of a sacred text in the room with them is effectively telling [students], ‘Hey, these are things you should read and obey,'” said Tuttle. “That’s not the state’s job.” Texas is one of 16 states where lawmakers have introduced similar Ten Commandments bills in recent years. Advocates say they are emboldened by the current composition of the U.S. Supreme Court and the 2019 Kennedy v. Bremerton decision, which upheld a coach’s right to pray on the field after football games. Still, critics argue the bill reflects a larger attempt to blur the line between church and state — a line that has defined American public education for decades. If signed into law, the Texas measure could face immediate legal challenges and set the stage for a high-profile constitutional battle — one that may ultimately land at the U.S. Supreme Court. 4. by Worthy News Washington D.C. Bureau Staff (Worthy News) – President Donald Trump delivered his harshest rebuke yet of Russian President Vladimir Putin late Sunday, calling him “absolutely crazy” for escalating deadly drone and missile attacks on Ukrainian cities, while warning that a full-scale invasion would lead to the “downfall of Russia.” Returning from West Point, Trump addressed reporters on the White House lawn, visibly agitated. “Yeah, I’ll give you an update–I’m not happy with what Putin’s doing. He’s killing a lot of people,” Trump said. “We’re in the middle of talking and he’s shooting rockets into Kyiv and other cities–I don’t like it at all.” The strong remarks followed a record-setting Russian bombardment on Ukraine, including more than 355 drones and dozens of missiles over the weekend, according to Ukrainian officials. President Volodymyr Zelensky said at least 13 people were killed in the latest assault, calling it the largest aerial attack of the war to date. Trump, who had previously emphasized his personal rapport with Putin, expressed shock at the Russian leader’s recent behavior. “I don’t know what the hell happened to Putin… something happened to this guy,” Trump said, later posting on Truth Social: “He has gone absolutely CRAZY! He is needlessly killing a lot of people… and not just soldiers.” Despite his condemnation of Putin, Trump also directed criticism at Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. “President Zelenskyy is doing his country no favors by talking the way he does. Everything out of his mouth causes problems–I don’t like it, and it better stop.” The rebuke comes after a brief moment of optimism last week, when the U.S. helped broker the largest prisoner exchange of the war, with both Russia and Ukraine releasing 1,000 detainees. Trump confirmed he initiated a May 19 phone call with Putin to jumpstart peace talks, which were reportedly making some headway before this weekend’s attacks. Trump said he is “absolutely” considering new sanctions on Moscow in response to the strikes, warning of “much worse” to come if Russia continues its path toward a total takeover of Ukraine. “If he does, it will lead to the downfall of Russia,” he warned. The Kremlin, in response to Trump’s remarks, suggested the U.S. president was experiencing “emotional overload,” but also acknowledged his role in organizing negotiations. “This is a very crucial moment… associated with emotional reactions,” said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. Meanwhile, Zelensky responded indirectly, accusing global leaders of wasting time on “dialog” with Putin instead of applying real pressure. “Only a sense of total impunity can allow Russia to carry out such strikes,” he said on X. “There is no real military logic… but there is significant political meaning.” Despite the harsh rhetoric, Trump insisted that his actions are aimed at ending a war that never should have begun. “This is Zelensky’s, Putin’s, and Biden’s war–not ‘Trump’s,'” he posted. “I’m only helping to put out the big and ugly fires that have been started through gross incompetence and hatred.” The post Trump Blasts Putin Over Ukraine Attacks: Warns of Russia’s “Downfall,” Scolds Zelensky appeared first on Worthy Christian News. 5. by Emmitt Barry, Worthy News Correspondent (Worthy News) – Denmark and eight other European countries have issued a forceful challenge to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), accusing it of tying their hands when it comes to deporting criminal migrants and protecting their citizens. In a joint letter released Sunday, the leaders of Denmark, Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Italy, and Poland criticized the court’s interpretation of the European Convention on Human Rights, which they say has repeatedly blocked common-sense efforts to remove dangerous individuals from their borders. “These rulings have severely limited our ability to make political decisions in our own democracies,” the letter states. “It is beyond our comprehension how some people can come to our countries, enjoy our freedoms and opportunities–and then choose to commit crimes.” The nine countries are calling for a rebalancing of priorities–arguing that the rights and security of law-abiding citizens must take precedence over the rights of foreign criminals and illegal migrants. The letter warns of growing frustration among Europeans who see their national governments rendered powerless by unelected judges. The coalition is demanding that Europe regain the ability to deport violent offenders and drug traffickers and closely monitor illegal migrants who pose a security threat. The leaders also warned about foreign regimes weaponizing mass migration to destabilize Europe–referring to recent cases where hostile governments have funneled migrants toward EU borders as a form of political leverage. Denmark, which will assume the EU presidency in July, led the charge. “We must be able to defend our nations against those who exploit our openness and abuse our values,” the letter reads. “Security and sovereignty must be restored.” The letter also distinguishes between migrants who embrace European values and those who reject integration. “Many immigrants contribute positively. But others isolate themselves in parallel societies, rejecting our democracy, equality, and freedom–and some commit crimes against the very societies that welcomed them.” The move comes just weeks after British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced new immigration restrictions in response to voter anger over unchecked migration. Starmer pledged to slash the number of low-skilled foreign workers, ramp up enforcement, and put British citizens first when it comes to jobs and public services. While left-wing NGOs and pro-migration groups lashed out at the letter, accusing the signatories of “scapegoating migrants,” conservative leaders say the real scandal is how little control sovereign nations have over their borders under the current system. “This isn’t about race or xenophobia–it’s about basic law and order,” said a senior official from one of the signatory countries. “Europe cannot be a dumping ground for criminals and extremists just because international courts say we can’t deport them.” With public pressure mounting across the continent, the letter signals what may be the beginning of a serious push to reform–or defy–the human rights regime that critics say has prioritized ideology over public safety. “We are launching a new conversation,” the leaders conclude. “A Europe that cannot protect its people is a Europe that will not last.” The post Nine European Nations Demand Freedom to Deport Criminal Migrants, Slam Human Rights Court Overreach appeared first on Worthy Christian News. 6. by Emmitt Barry, Worthy News Correspondent (Worthy News) – A phone call last Thursday between U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, initially characterized as a demonstration of unity on Iran, was in fact marked by sharp disagreements over how to address the Islamic Republic’s nuclear ambitions, according to a report by Israel’s Channel 12. While both leaders reiterated their shared goal of preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons, sources familiar with the call revealed that Trump strongly advocated for a diplomatic resolution. “I want a diplomatic solution with the Iranians. I believe in my ability to make a good deal,” Trump reportedly told Netanyahu, adding that any agreement must be mutually beneficial. The reported tensions come as U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem visits Israel on behalf of the Trump administration. “President Trump specifically sent me here to speak with the prime minister about how negotiations are going and how important it is that we stay united and let this process play out,” Noem told Fox News. She described her discussions with Netanyahu as “very candid,” hinting at potential friction. Despite the disagreement on Iran, Netanyahu’s office issued a statement saying the president “expressed support for the objectives set by Prime Minister Netanyahu: to secure the release of all our hostages, to eliminate Hamas, and to advance the Trump Plan.” During a press conference, Netanyahu suggested Israel might be willing to end the war in Gaza if the Trump Plan could be implemented. The plan reportedly includes a phased demilitarization of Gaza and an international oversight mechanism. Speaking Monday from the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem, Secretary Noem delivered President Trump’s message to Israelis grieving the victims of last week’s terror attack in Washington, D.C. “President Trump sends his heartfelt condolences and solidarity to all of you,” she said. “He stands firmly with Israel in the fight against hatred and terror, and believes the lives of Yaron and Sarah will have lasting meaning–uniting us in purpose and strengthening our resolve to overcome our enemies.” The revelation of friction between the longtime allies comes at a critical moment for U.S.-Israel coordination, as pressure mounts to chart a new course in the Middle East amid ongoing conflict and nuclear concerns. 7. by Emmitt Barry, Worthy News Correspondent (Worthy News) – President Donald Trump on Sunday gave Senate Republicans the green light to make “fairly significant” changes to the sweeping budget reconciliation package narrowly passed by the House last week, potentially unraveling Speaker Mike Johnson’s fragile coalition that delivered the bill by a single-vote margin. “I want the Senate and the senators to make the changes they want, and we’ll go back to the House and we’ll see if we can get them,” Trump told reporters in Morristown, New Jersey. “Some will be minor and some will be fairly significant.” The president’s remarks came just days after the House passed the legislation 215-214, following months of internal wrangling among Republicans. Speaker Johnson (R-La.) had urged the Senate to make only minor adjustments, citing a “very delicate equilibrium” among GOP factions. “It’s best not to meddle with it too much,” he warned on CNN’s State of the Union. But Trump’s endorsement of a more aggressive Senate rewrite emboldens fiscal hawks and conservative critics who say the bill falls short on deficit reduction. “This bill falls profoundly short,” said Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas), who voted “present” in protest. House Freedom Caucus Chair Andy Harris (R-Md.) did the same, citing weak Medicaid reforms that won’t take effect until 2029. In the Senate, the bill faces an uncertain path. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) said there is enough GOP opposition to block the measure unless it includes deeper spending cuts. Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) also raised alarms over the bill’s proposed $5 trillion debt ceiling hike. “They’re going to explode the debt,” Paul said. “Even with wimpy and anemic cuts, I’d support it — but not if it’s adding trillions more.” The bill currently excludes key Trump proposals, including the closure of the carried-interest tax loophole and the creation of a new top tax bracket for ultra-high earners. Modifying these could reduce the deficit by billions and align more closely with Trump’s long-term policy goals. Senate Republicans are also eyeing revisions to provisions on state and local tax (SALT) deductions, green energy tax breaks, and the permanence of certain 2017 tax cuts. Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) has not yet scheduled a vote, but Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has warned Congress must act before July 4 to raise the debt ceiling and avoid a government default. With 53 GOP senators, Thune can afford to lose only three votes before requiring Vice President JD Vance to break a tie. Despite growing tensions, Trump remains confident. “I think it’s going to get there,” he said. “John Thune and Mike Johnson have done a fantastic job.” Still, Speaker Johnson cautioned that if the Senate goes too far, the amended package may collapse upon its return to the House. “We’re one team here,” he said. “Let’s not fumble it on the one-yard line.” The post Trump Backs Senate Rewrites to Budget Bill, Risking House GOP Deal appeared first on Worthy Christian News. 8. By Morgan Sweeney and Dan McCaleb | The Center Square (Worthy News) – President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance and others on Monday thanked those U.S. service members who died serving their country during a Memorial Day event at Arlington National Cemetery. “We gather today to honor the incredible service members who rest in glory in this cemetery and burial grounds around the world, and in thousands of lonely places known only to God.” Trump said. “And every hour of peril and every moment of crisis, American warriors have left behind the blessings of home and family to answer their nation’s call. They’ve offered all that they had within them and given their last breaths to each and every one of us so that we might live safe and breathe free.” Trump recognized the surviving family members of the fallen. “Each of the service members who have made the supreme sacrifice for our nation has also left an unfillable void and an unbreakable silence in the lives of all who loved them,” he said. The president also noted the coming 250th anniversary of the United States and those early soldiers who fought for the nation’s independence. “This Memorial Day is especially significant as we commemorate 250 years since the first American patriots fell in the field of battle,” he said. “Two and a half centuries ago … brave minutemen and humble farm boys were the first to give their lives for a nation that did not yet have a name.” Earlier, Trump placed a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, followed by the playing of Taps and a moment of silence. The tomb is a memorial honoring three unidentified soldiers, one each from World War I, World War II and the Korean War, and serves as a tribute for all those unidentified service members who lost their lives serving the country. “Since the founding of our great nation, over one million of our sons, daughters, fathers, mothers, husbands, wives, brothers and sisters have donned the cloth of our nation and never come home,” General Dan Caine said.”Every one of them believed that defending our great nation when duty called is a righteous and worthy cause. And they were right. It is.” Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth followed Caine, commemorating the unknown soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice. “This is the story of the unknown, the story of the fallen soldier who we have gathered today to honor,” Hegseth said. “It is the story of the American warrior.” Vice President Mike Pence thanked the Gold Star families in attendance. They are the survivors of service members who died in the line of duty. “For those who have given their lives for this country, we remember you today, and certainly, to our Gold Star families, who are so thrilled and so grateful to have you in attendance,” Vance said. “This is a sacred place, an eternal resting spot for our nation’s sons and daughters.” Reprinted with permission from The Center Square. 9. by Emmitt Barry, Worthy News Correspondent (Worthy News) – In a powerful display of national identity and biblical connection, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu led a special Cabinet meeting Monday in the historic City of David to commemorate the 58th anniversary of Jerusalem’s reunification during the Six-Day War. Framing the moment as a continuation of Israel’s ancient heritage and a declaration of modern resilience, Netanyahu vowed to preserve the unity and sovereignty of Jerusalem in the face of ongoing threats. “We will maintain a united and complete Jerusalem under Israeli sovereignty,” Netanyahu said. “Our bloodthirsty enemies who attacked us on October 7–calling it the ‘Al-Aqsa Flood’–now understand the magnitude of the flood and the destruction they brought upon themselves. If we relinquish Jerusalem, we will face a massacre many times greater. We will face the annihilation of the nation, and we will not let that happen.” The meeting was held at the City of David, just south of the Temple Mount, a site of deep archaeological and spiritual significance tied to King David’s establishment of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital over 3,000 years ago. Netanyahu used the occasion to announce new investments in the capital’s infrastructure, including billions of shekels toward transportation, housing, education, and heritage preservation. He also reaffirmed the government’s intent to promote international recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital–a campaign boosted in recent years by the U.S. and four other countries relocating their embassies to the city. Symbolism and Security Amid Celebrations As part of Jerusalem Day, tens of thousands of Israelis participated in the annual March of Flags, waving the national flag and singing patriotic songs through the streets of the Old City. Security forces maintained a heavy presence, especially near Muslim neighborhoods, amid heightened tensions and intermittent clashes with far-left activists from the Standing Together group. Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion, Deputy Mayor Aryeh King, and top religious leaders were set to address the day’s central rally. Mayor Lion emphasized the city’s trajectory of growth: “Jerusalem’s magnificent past is only surpassed by the bright future we are building—together with the full partnership of the Israeli government.” Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir also visited the Temple Mount earlier in the day, prompting swift condemnation from Jordan and others. Critics view his repeated appearances as provocative, while Ben-Gvir maintains they are a legitimate expression of Jewish rights and Israeli sovereignty. Known in Hebrew as Yom Yerushalayim, the national holiday commemorates Israel’s reclaiming of East Jerusalem during the 1967 Six-Day War—a moment widely seen by Israelis as both a spiritual return and a restoration of historical rights. It marked the first time in nearly 20 years that Jews could once again pray at the Western Wall, the holiest site in Judaism. Jerusalem Day embodies the fulfillment of biblical promise and national destiny for the Jewish nation. “There is no Zionism without Zion, and no Israel without Jerusalem,” Prime Minister Netanyahu stated. “To surrender Jerusalem would be to erase the very meaning of Jewish history.” As Netanyahu concluded his remarks, he tied Jerusalem’s fate to the survival of the Jewish people: “The stones of Jerusalem are not silent—they speak to us across the generations. We must never forget what they say.” The post Netanyahu Marks Jerusalem Day with Bold Declaration of Sovereignty in City of David appeared first on Worthy Christian News. View the full article
  10. by Emmitt Barry, Worthy News Correspondent (Worthy News) – Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Monday called for closer cooperation between Iran and Pakistan in confronting Israel, praising Islamabad’s firm stance on the Palestinian issue and highlighting the importance of unity among Muslim nations. “Effective, joint efforts by Iran and Pakistan are necessary to stop the Zionist regime’s crimes in Gaza,” Khamenei posted on X, formerly Twitter. “The Palestinian issue is the most important issue in the Islamic world.” Khamenei lauded Pakistan for resisting international pressure to normalize relations with Israel. “There have always been inducements for Islamic countries to establish ties with the Zionist regime, [but] Pakistan has never been influenced by those inducements,” he said. “The only way to ensure the security of the Islamic Ummah is the unity of Muslim nations,” he added. Pakistan is the only Muslim-majority country in the world known to possess nuclear weapons. Its strategic position and military capabilities have long made it a key player in the Islamic world. Khamenei’s remarks appear to signal a desire for deeper alignment with Pakistan in both political and security matters amid growing tensions in Gaza and shifting alliances in the Middle East. 11. by Emmitt Barry, Worthy News Correspondent (Worthy News) – Sudan’s civil war entered a deadly new phase this month as UAE-backed Rapid Support Forces (RSF) launched a series of devastating drone strikes against Port Sudan, a city long seen as a humanitarian and administrative stronghold. The attacks, beginning May 4, have crippled critical infrastructure and displaced hundreds more in a nation already reeling from the world’s worst displacement crisis. The RSF, accused by the U.S. of committing genocide, reportedly used Chinese-made drones believed to be supplied by the United Arab Emirates. Despite UAE denials, both UN reports and eyewitnesses link the drone launches to UAE Red Sea bases, not RSF-held zones. Sudan has now officially labeled the strikes “terrorist attacks” and named the UAE its “regional sponsor.” The strikes targeted Port Sudan’s airport, fuel depots, seaport, and oil refinery, disrupting aid flows and marine traffic. UN coordinator Clementine Nkweta-Salami warned the damage threatens “a lifeline for humanitarian operations” and may drastically raise food and fuel prices. A Nation Torn by Rival Forces Sudan’s civil war erupted in April 2023 after a power-sharing agreement between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary RSF collapsed. What began as a political dispute quickly escalated into full-scale war for control of the country. The capital, Khartoum, became a primary battleground until SAF forces reclaimed it in March 2025. Meanwhile, the RSF seized large parts of western and southern Sudan, operating with increasing support from foreign sources. While both factions face accusations of war crimes, the RSF has been singled out for genocide. The U.S. formally recognized this on January 7, citing systematic ethnic killings and widespread sexual violence. Geopolitical Fallout and Rising Tensions Amid worsening conditions, Sudan cut diplomatic ties with the UAE and appealed to China for support. In Beijing, Sudanese officials called China a “trustworthy friend” and urged it not to remain silent amid foreign-backed aggression. Meanwhile, the U.S. approved a $1.6 billion arms sale to the UAE—prompting backlash in Congress and accusations of undermining peace. Representative Gregory Meeks vowed to block the sale, citing overwhelming evidence of UAE arms flowing to RSF forces. Over 25 million Sudanese now need emergency food aid, with 11.5 million displaced and more than 150,000 dead since the war began. As Port Sudan reels under aerial assault, Sudan’s humanitarian crisis continues to deepen. 12. By Stefan J. Bos, Chief International Correspondent Worthy News KYIV/BERLIN/BUDAPEST (Worthy News) – In a warning to Russia, Germany confirmed Monday that Western countries allied to Ukraine no longer impose range limits on arms delivered to Kyiv. Germany’s new chancellor, Friedrich Merz, made the announcement after Moscow launched its third consecutive night of massive drone strikes against Ukraine overnight into Monday. “There are no longer any restrictions on the range of weapons delivered to Ukraine – neither by the U.K., France, nor us. There are no restrictions by the US either,” Merz reportedly said during a discussion forum organized by Germany’s public broadcaster WDR. “This means that Ukraine can now defend itself, for example, by attacking military positions in Russia,” the chancellor added. “Until recently, it couldn’t do that, and apart from very few exceptions, it hadn’t done so either.” His remarks came ahead of Zelenskyy’s reportedly Wednesday visit to Berlin, where he will meet with Merz and German president Frank-Walter Steinmeier. The chancellor’s unprecedented remarks came shortly after Russia fired a record 355 Shahed drones as well as nine cruise missiles, officials said, despite U.S. President Donald J. Trump’s mounting anger over the attacks. Trump warned late Sunday night that if Russian President Vladimir Putin attempts to conquer all of Ukraine, it will lead to the “downfall” of Russia. MORE DEVASTATING STRIKES It suggested more devastating military strikes against Russia were possible, despite concerns it could internationalize an armed conflict that is believed to have killed and injured more than a million people since Moscow launched its full scale invasion of Ukraine on February 2022. There had been hesitation to approve the use of more effective long-range missiles by Kyiv amid fears of an escalation of the conflict, including over Russia’s nuclear capabilities. Ukraine previously received long-range missiles from Washington, London, and Paris, but it was initially only allowed to use them against Russian military targets in occupied Ukrainian territories. However, there were exceptions. Last April, Ukraine reportedly used longer-range ballistic missiles called Army Tactical Missile System (Atcams) – supplied by then U.S. President Joe Biden’s administration – for the first time after Washington okayed the operation. The U.S. president, who held two hours of talks with his Russian counterpart in recent days, declared on social media that Putin was “absolutely CRAZY” after Russia’s deadly drone and missile strikes on Ukraine over the weekend, killing at least a dozen people, including children Echoing remarks from the European Union, Trump stressed he was seriously considering imposing “more sanctions on Russia” following the attacks. Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the increase in Russian strikes should be met with “increased sanctions,” adding that Moscow’s dismissal of the US-proposed 30-day ceasefire should lead to a “freeze on Russian finances and a halt to its oil trade.” MOSCOW DEFENDS ATTACKS The Kremlin defended its latest drone and missile attacks on Ukraine, saying it was a reaction “to Kyiv’s attacks” on Russian infrastructure and military targets, including in and around Moscow, the capital. French president Emmanuel Macron said he thinks Trump is realising Putin “had lied” to him about his intentions for peace, adding he hopes his anger “translates into action.” The tensions over the ongoing missile strikes also come as the West accuses Russia of bringing the war to its doorstops, including arson attacks on the private home of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, a building where he once lived, and a car that he had owned. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov played down reports that British security officials were looking into whether Russia was involved in the attacks. “London tends to suspect Russia of anything. As a rule, all these suspicions are groundless, unsubstantiated, and often laughable,” he stressed. Authorities said no one was injured in the fires that occurred in north London on three nights between May 8 and May 12. British prosecutors three men linked ties to wartorn Ukraine are held on arson charges without bail before a hearing on June 6 in London’s Central Criminal Court. Britain has officially not blamed Russia yet, but officials have done so privately. The post West Allows Ukraine To Attack Russia With Long-Range Missiles appeared first on Worthy Christian News. 13. By Stefan J. Bos, Chief International Correspondent Worthy News SEATTLE, USA (Worthy News) – An investigation was ongoing Sunday into violence that broke against a Christian rally in the U.S. city of Seattle, where believers expressed concern about what they view as efforts to “indoctrinate” children with the LGBTQ+ agenda. Mayday USA, a conservative Christian group, brought its #DontMessWithOurKids gathering to Seattle on Saturday, the fourth of five stops on a national tour. Organizers say the #DontMessWithOurKids movement “refuses to stand idly by while the children of our nation are indoctrinated by liberal, political, and sexual agenda that seeks to destroy their God-given identities.” However, Worthy News observed that the rally also focused on the Gospel, with Gospel singers and crowds enthusiastically singing Christian songs. Yet footage obtained by Worthy News showed activists interrupting the rally, some violently, forcing police to intervene. Several people were tackled on the ground while a Gospel concert continued on stage. One man could be seen holding a sign: “I love my gay kid.” The Seattle Police Department said it made 23 arrests—22 adults and a juvenile—in Cal Anderson Park. One officer was reportedly injured. ‘FAR RIGHT RALLY’ However, Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell, a Democrat, claimed that a “far-right” rally was being held in the park to “provoke a reaction by promoting beliefs that are inherently opposed to our city’s values, in the heart of Seattle’s most prominent LGBTQ+ neighborhood.” He added that “anarchists” had infiltrated a group of counter-protestors opposing the rally and “inspired violence,” prompting arrests and causing the event to be shut down early. In a statement obtained by Worthy News, evangelist Ross Johnston said he wasn’t surprised about the protests against the rally. “We have “protesters” coming to our protest which always increases the glory of the Lord Church, tension and pushback is a part of the Christian life,” he explained in a statement seen by Worthy News. “Think of Peter, Paul, Jesus – they all faced resistance but it only led to greater measures of salvation, healing and deliverance! Many of them will be saved and encounter Jesus! Can’t wait!” he added. Ross suggested he has a message for the LGBTQ# community and others searching for Christ in their lives. He said he “was born by artificial insemination and grew up in a lesbian household with two moms.” At 15 years old, he said, he “was invited to church,” where the teenager “encountered the Holy Spirit and presence of God” for the first time. ‘BORN AGAIN’ He said he “then surrendered” his life to Jesus and became “born again” during that time. After earning a business degree and running several businesses, he said it was allegedly through the Holy Spirit: ‘If you don’t stand now, you never will.’ He then resigned from his full-time job and became an evangelist, supporting what he says are signs of “revival” in colleges and other public areas nationwide. Yet not everyone shared his views Saturday with a counterprotest—urging people to “Protest Fascist ‘Family Values.” The Freedom Socialist Party, Organized Workers for Labor Solidarity, Puget Sound Mobilization for Reproductive Justice, and Radical Women arranged the protest in Seattle. Organizers called on people to “send a message with a loud picket line, signs, and banners: Bigotry is not welcome here!” Johnston described the anti-Christian crowd as “Antifa” members, referring to the self-declared left-wing anti-fascist and anti-racist political movement in the United States. However, in his view, they, too, need to hear the Gospel and its values. The post Violence Overshadows Christian Rally In Seattle appeared first on Worthy Christian News. View the full article
  14. by Emmitt Barry, Worthy News Correspondent (Worthy News) – Nearly 2,000 people were baptized Sunday on the shores of Hanna Park Beach as The Church of Eleven22 held its annual Beach Baptism event, drawing thousands in a vibrant public declaration of Christian faith. A total of 1,958 individuals took the plunge in the Atlantic Ocean, symbolizing their commitment to Jesus Christ, while hundreds more stood on the beach cheering, praying, and worshiping alongside them. “1,958 members of our church family went public with their faith today and got baptized!” the church shared on social media. “Every year Beach Baptism somehow gets better and better and we could not be more in awe of the goodness of God.” Participants came from across Florida, Georgia, and other states to join in what has become one of the largest baptism gatherings in the region. The event reflects a growing movement that has seen increasing participation each year, up from over 1,600 baptisms in 2024. Pastor Joby Martin, the lead pastor of The Church of Eleven22, praised the spiritual impact of the moment: “We are a movement for all people to discover and deepen a relationship with Jesus Christ. Today, we celebrated 1,958 people proclaiming Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. It doesn’t get much better than that!” Jay Owen, a church spokesperson, added, “It’s a great reminder that the church is not dead, and neither is God. He is moving amongst His people all over the world and we’re all just swept up in His work.” Social media was flooded with gratitude and awe from those who witnessed or participated in the event. One attendee commented, “Privilege to be there and celebrate with everyone,” while another called it “a million little miracles.” A returning guest, Jeanette Marsh, wrote, “My fourth year coming to Beach Baptism and every year is so powerful and amazing! Praise God.” The Church of Eleven22 has hosted the event for over a decade, with the annual baptisms now becoming a highly anticipated spiritual celebration on the First Coast. 15. By Stefan J. Bos, Chief International Correspondent YAOUNDE (Worthy News) – A Catholic priest is the last of six hostages to be released in Cameroon, but one of them died, Worthy News established Monday. Valentin Mbaibarem was among those captured on May 7, said the Archbishop of Garoua, adding that “he is in good physical condition.” It was not immediately clear who had been responsible for the kidnapping and whether arrests had been made. The Cameroonian parish priest of St. John the Baptist Church in the town of Madingring was kidnapped with the other five other people, Vatican sources said. Archbishop Faustin Ambassa Ndjodo of Garoua said in published remarks that “Mbaibarem was released” on the night of May 15 to 16. The priest has seen a doctor and is reportedly in good physical condition. He was the last of six hostages to be freed. Four were released before him, and one died in captivity, several sources said. Local press reported that a ransom of about $42,000 had been demanded for the priest’s release. NO RANSOM The archbishop denied that a ransom was needed for the priest’s return, but he said he did not know if others had paid for their freedom. In a statement announcing the priest’s release, the Archdiocese of Garoua thanked “all those who prayed” for the priest’s release, adding that they “invoke the Lord’s blessing on everyone who worked toward this goal.” The kidnapping had underscored frustration among Christians about the abductions, especially in regions of the country with a significant population of Muslim extremists.“This is especially the case in the Far North region. Here, Islamic militants – specifically Boko Haram and Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP) – regularly attack, trying to carve out a caliphate in Cameroon’s most volatile region,” explained advocacy group Open Doors. The group ranks Cameroon 43rd on its annual World Watch List of 50 countries where it says Christians face most persecution for their faith in Christ. “Christians who live in these areas are targets for violence, including abduction and murder. Converts from Islam are forced to practice their faith in secret, and owning Bibles or Christian books can be extremely dangerous,” Open Doors noticed in as assessment. The group said that the violence in the Central African nation of 17 million has forced many churches to close,” leaving some “believers without a place of worship.” Additionally, Christians and others in the Central African nation suffer in the ongoing conflict between separatists and the nation’s government. “This violence has created a massive humanitarian crisis. Christians caught in the middle have been accused by both sides of ‘harboring the enemy,’ and their churches and property destroyed,” Open Doors stressed. 16. by Emmitt Barry, Worthy News Correspondent (Worthy News) – President Donald Trump announced Sunday that he will delay a proposed 50% tariff on European Union imports until July 9, following a phone call with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. Trump had previously warned that steep tariffs would take effect on June 1, citing what he called unfair trade practices by the EU. But after what he described as a “very nice call,” the president agreed to extend the deadline. “She said she wants a serious negotiation,” Trump told reporters in New Jersey. “July 9th was the date she requested. And I agreed to do that.” In a post on X, von der Leyen confirmed the call and said Europe is “ready to advance talks swiftly and decisively,” but noted that “a good deal will need time until July 9.” The move comes after Trump threatened on Friday to raise tariffs from 20% to 50% in response to what he called the EU’s “ridiculous” trade barriers and “unjustified lawsuits” targeting American companies. The proposed tariff increase would affect $321 billion in transatlantic trade, potentially reducing U.S. GDP by 0.6% and raising consumer prices by more than 0.3%, according to Bloomberg Economics. EU officials had recently submitted a revised trade proposal in hopes of restarting negotiations. U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the tougher stance is meant to “light a fire” under the EU, which he criticized for its slow collective decision-making process. The Trump administration has already reached a new trade deal with the United Kingdom and is pursuing a separate agreement with China. 17. by Emmitt Barry, Worthy News Correspondent (Worthy News) – Tens of thousands took to the streets of Toronto on Sunday waving Israeli flags and voicing support for the Jewish state at the United Jewish Appeal’s annual Walk With Israel. Organizers say the event drew 56,000 participants — the largest crowd in its decades-long history. The 3.7-kilometre march came just days after the fatal shooting of two Israeli Embassy staffers in Washington, D.C., intensifying calls for Jewish solidarity and public support. Among the crowd was former Iranian political prisoner Salman Sima, who joined some 200 Iranian-Canadians in marching. “We share the same pain and the same cause,” Sima said. “This is real unity and we show it in action.” However, the event also drew roughly 300 counter-protesters waving Palestinian flags. Though no serious incidents were reported, some participants expressed concern over the close proximity of demonstrators and criticized police for allowing them to intermingle. “There should’ve been a buffer zone,” said Guidy Mamann, president of the Toronto Zionist Council. “The shouting was provocative and at times racist, but thankfully no major incidents occurred.” Toronto police had pre-announced a heavy presence and designated protest zones. “Intimidation, harassment, hate speech, or criminal behaviour will not be tolerated,” said Deputy Chief Lauren Pogue. Despite tensions, many described the day as uplifting. “The streets came alive,” said clinical psychologist Eynat Katz. “It was a powerful display of unity, resilience, and unwavering love for Israel.” The post Over 50,000 Join Toronto’s ‘Walk With Israel’ in Show of Solidarity Following Embassy Killings appeared first on Worthy Christian News. 18. by Emmitt Barry, Worthy News Correspondent (Worthy News) – The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced Sunday that it plans to seize 75% of the Gaza Strip within two months as part of its intensified campaign against Hamas under Operation “Gideon’s Chariots,” a continuation of the broader effort launched a year and a half ago. The military currently holds around 40% of the territory. According to an IDF spokesperson, more than 2,900 targets have been struck since the latest ceasefire ended in March, and over 800 terrorists have been eliminated — including 11 senior Hamas officials, 10 battalion commanders, 18 company commanders, and two senior members of Hamas’s military intelligence apparatus. “Gideon’s Chariots” picks up where Operation “Firm Hand” left off — a campaign in which the IDF split Gaza in two, cleared Rafah, and secured critical corridors. The new phase expands on those gains with a revised territorial strategy focused on completely dismantling Hamas’s infrastructure and holding cleared areas to prevent the group from reestablishing its presence. Senior military officials said the mission is designed to achieve two key goals: the defeat of Hamas and the recovery of Israeli hostages. “Defeating Hamas supports hostage recovery — the two goals are interconnected,” said one IDF official. The army believes Hamas is nearing collapse, noting that much of its leadership has been killed and its governance severely disrupted. The IDF estimates that roughly 900 kilometers of tunnels have been constructed by Hamas beneath Gaza. Only about 25% have been destroyed so far, though the military says its focus has been on strategic tunnels used for command centers, weapons manufacturing, and infiltration. Once the expanded ground offensive begins, Israel intends to push Gaza’s 2 million residents into three designated zones comprising just 25% of the Strip: the coastal Mawasi area, central Gaza’s Deir al-Balah and Nuseirat region, and parts of Gaza City. The rest of Gaza — including Rafah, Khan Younis, and areas north of Gaza City — will be held by Israeli forces. Meanwhile, a new humanitarian aid distribution mechanism, operated by a private American security company and supported by the IDF, is set to launch Monday. Four aid hubs have been established, with capacity to serve up to 300,000 people per week. However, aid groups have voiced skepticism, citing concerns over civilian access and potential diversion by Hamas. Despite heavy fighting and intensified airstrikes, the IDF said there has been no change to its collateral damage policy. Military data suggests a consistent combatant-to-civilian death ratio of about 1:2 or 1:3. IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir emphasized that the war “is not endless,” and reiterated that Hamas is under “tremendous pressure,” having lost most of its assets and command capabilities. As the campaign presses forward, the question of who will govern Gaza “the day after” remains unresolved among Israeli political leaders. 19. by Emmitt Barry, Worthy News Correspondent (Worthy News) – A senior Hamas official on Sunday dismissed reports of talks with Saudi Arabia or France about disarming the terror group in Gaza, calling the idea an “absolute red line.” Speaking anonymously to the UK-based, Qatari-funded Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, the official said, “The weapons of resistance are not negotiable,” emphasizing that all armed factions in Gaza share this stance–not just Hamas. He criticized international diplomatic efforts focused on disarmament without demanding an Israeli withdrawal or increased humanitarian aid. “Such initiatives only serve Netanyahu’s government, which is under global pressure amid images of dead children in Gaza,” he stated. Despite its hardline position on weapons, Hamas has told mediators it is open to stepping aside from governing Gaza if it would help end the fighting and allow for reconstruction and aid. The group also reiterated its readiness to release all hostages, citing poor conditions for both captives and Gaza’s civilian population. “What Netanyahu has not been able to achieve on the military field, he will not achieve at the negotiating table either,” the official concluded. History of Hamas Hamas was founded in 1987 during the First Intifada as an offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood in Gaza. Formally known as Harakat al-Muqawama al-Islamiyya (Islamic Resistance Movement), it positioned itself as a religious-nationalist alternative to the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), with the goal of establishing an Islamic state in all of historic Palestine. From the beginning, Hamas combined political activism, social services, and armed resistance, gaining grassroots support for its uncompromising stance against Israel. Its 1988 charter cast the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as a religious war, declaring that all of Palestine—“from the river to the sea”—is Islamic land that cannot be surrendered. It rejected peace talks and called for Israel’s destruction through jihad, drawing on Islamic texts and invoking conspiracy theories, including anti-Semitic claims that blamed Jews for global turmoil. One of the most notable elements of the 1988 Hamas Charter is its quotation of a hadith widely associated with Islamic End Times narratives, stating that the Day of Judgment will not come until Muslims fight the Jews. This prophecy has been interpreted by some radical groups as a divine mandate for war, framing the conflict not merely as political, but as part of an apocalyptic struggle. From the charter: “The Day of Judgment will not come until Muslims fight the Jews, when the Jew will hide behind stones and trees. The stones and trees will say: ‘O Muslim, O servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him.’” This hadith, found in Sahih Muslim, is interpreted by many radical groups to mean that the final confrontation between Muslims and Jews is a necessary step before the arrival of the Mahdi (the guided one) and the return of Jesus (Isa) to defeat evil and establish justice. While not all Muslims accept this eschatological view, Hamas incorporates it into its ideology, portraying its struggle as part of a larger, prophetic battle. This religious framing elevates the conflict beyond politics, casting it as a cosmic confrontation with apocalyptic significance that further entrenches divisions and complicates prospects for peace. 20. by Emmitt Barry, Worthy News Correspondent (Worthy News) – A dual U.S.-German citizen appeared in federal court on Sunday after being extradited from Israel over allegations he attempted to firebomb the U.S. Embassy branch in Tel Aviv and threatened to assassinate former President Donald Trump. Joseph Patrick Neumeyer, 28, of Colorado, was charged with multiple federal offenses, including threatening the life of a former U.S. president and attempting to use explosive devices against a U.S. diplomatic mission. He faces up to 20 years in prison and $250,000 in fines if convicted. According to the U.S. Justice Department, Neumeyer arrived in Israel in April and on May 19 posted violent threats online, including “Join me as I burn down the embassy in Tel Aviv. Death to America, death to Americans, and f— the west.” That same day, he allegedly spat on a U.S. embassy guard and fled after being confronted, leaving behind a black backpack containing Molotov cocktails. “This defendant is charged with planning a devastating attack targeting our embassy in Israel, threatening death to Americans, and President Trump’s life,” said Attorney General Pam Bondi. “The Department of Justice will not tolerate such violence.” The FBI and DOJ credited Israeli authorities with swiftly apprehending Neumeyer and preventing a tragedy. “Armed with potentially lethal devices, he sought to cause chaos and destruction,” said U.S. Attorney Joseph Nocella. “His arrest sends a clear message: violence against U.S. citizens or institutions—anywhere—will be met with justice.” Court documents reveal Neumeyer’s online posts also included threats against tech mogul Elon Musk and Texas Governor Greg Abbott, alongside violent rhetoric dating back to March. He was deported from Israel and arrested upon arrival at JFK Airport on May 25. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing. 21. By Stefan J. Bos, Chief International Correspondent Worthy News KYIV/BUDAPEST (Worthy News) – Authorities say Russia has continued its “largest air raid in three years” of the war against Ukraine in a second straight night of massive drone and ballistic missile strikes in which Kyiv, the capital, was again the primary target. Ukraine’s leadership announced at least 12 people were killed, including three children in the Kyiv region, and dozens more injured, prompting an angry reaction from the European Union. As smoke rises over destroyed buildings, rescue teams are searching for survivors after one of Russia’s most intense attacks on Ukraine overnight. The devastating drone and missile strikes rocked multiple regions across Ukraine on Saturday night into Sunday, from the southern coast and east to the west. https://www.worthynews.com/wordpressimages/2025/05/WorthyNewsRadioMay252025.mp3 They targeted major cities, including Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Dnipro, damaging residential buildings, infrastructure, and energy facilities. Ukraine’s air defenses intercepted many projectiles, but several broke through, causing deadly explosions and widespread panic. The strikes sent civilians running for shelter. Many people, including women and children, gathered in an underground metro station in Kyiv, hoping the strikes would soon end. Ukrainian officials later confirmed that Russia had launched at least 298 drones and 69 missiles in multiple waves. UKRAINIAN DRONES Russia’s defense ministry said its air defenses had shot down 110 Ukrainian drones overnight. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has urged the United States to speak out against what he called the “terrorist Russian strike” and called for new sanctions. The European Union’s policy chief, Kaja Kallas, reflected those concerns, saying it was time for “the strongest international pressure” on Russia to stop this war. She accused Moscow of seeking the total destruction of Ukraine and added that it had been “devastating to see children among innocent victims harmed and killed…” Russia said it responded to Ukrainian attacks, including around Moscow. The clashes came despite the ongoing prisoners-of-war exchange of 1,000 people, including soldiers and civilians, on each side. The prisoner swap was seen as a glimmer of hope in a war that began with Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022. 22. By Stefan J. Bos, Chief International Correspondent Worthy News HAVANA (Worthy News) – Two Assemblies of God pastors in Cuba, Luis Guillermo Borjas and his wife, Roxana Rojas, faced a tense Sunday after their reported detention for mentioning God at their son’s military trial. Prosecutors of the Communist-run island nation want them to serve an eight-year prison term for “disrespect” and “disobeying” the authorities, according to Christians familiar with the case. The troubles began May 19 May when the couple was detained after referencing God before a military tribunal where their son was being tried for attempting to evade obligatory military service, Christians told Worthy News. Their trial is scheduled for 9 June, according to Christians familiar with the case. “The couple were summoned to the military tribunal after their son, Kevin Laureido Rojas, ran away from a military facility after having been taken by force to perform the military service that is required of all Cuban males at the age of 18, despite having a medical exemption,” confirmed Christian advocacy group Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW). At the tribunal, the couple presented documents from a medical commission that found that their son’s “psychiatric condition makes him unable to perform military service,” Worthy News learned. CSW noted that when the “military prosecutor accused the couple of lying and presenting false evidence, Pastor Borjas protested, stating that the officials in the court would be accountable to ‘God’s justice’.” GOD’S NAME ‘ILLEGAL’ The prosecutor then “ordered the couple to be detained and charged, claiming that it is illegal to mention God or God’s justice in a military tribunal,” CSW added in a statement to Worthy News. Pastor Borjas reportedly remains detained in a cell at the police station while his wife, Pastor Rojas, who has a heart condition, was taken to the hospital unconscious. CSW said it had received reports that while in the hospital, “Pastor Rojas has been harassed by a young man in civilian clothes who falsely claimed to be a nurse. “ CSW’s Director of Advocacy, Anna Lee Stangl, told Worthy News that CSW had urged the Cuban authorities “to immediately drop the criminal charges against Pastors Luis Guillermo Borjas and Roxana Rojas and to release Pastor Borjas from detention.” She said it is “unacceptable that a simple reference to their religious beliefs in response to the military’s unjust treatment of their family should be criminalized, adding that it was “even more unconscionable that the government would seek an eight-year prison sentence.” CSW said it “urges the international community to press the Cuban government to uphold the often intersecting rights to freedom of expression and freedom of religion or belief for all.” BROADER CRACKDOWN REPORTED The detention is part of a broader crackdown on Christians deemed dangerous to the Communist leadership, activists say. “Since 1959, Cuba has been ruled by the Communist Party, which tries to control the church,” noted advocacy group Open Doors. “The government reacts harshly to anyone who opposes it. Church leaders and Christian activists who criticize the regime can face interrogation, arrest, and imprisonment,” the group added. “They also suffer smear campaigns, travel restrictions, and harassment (which can include physical violence and damage to church buildings),” Open Doors stressed in an assessment. Open Doors ranks Cuba 26th on its annual World Watch List of 50 countries where it says Christians face most persecution for their faith in Christ. The reported crackdown apparently continues under Cuban leader Miguel Díaz-Canel, who became president in April 2018 in a handover ending six decades of rule by the Castro family. Diaz-Canel has promised to maintain the island’s one-party system on the Caribbean island of nearly 11 million people. Bos, Chief International Correspondent Worthy News QUITO (Worthy News) – Ecuador’s reelected President, Daniel Noboa, started his first full day of another term Sunday after pledging to combat rampant corruption and drug trafficking in the South American nation. Noboa was sworn in Saturday for a four-year second term at a ceremony in Quito, the capital. President of the National Assembly Niels Olsen took Noboa’s oath of office and placed a presidential sash on him, allowing him to rule the country until May 2029. Noboa, who is only 37, and Vice President Maria Jose Pinto, who is just two years older, face significant challenges in realizing their agenda. In his inauguration speech, Noboa suggested his ongoing battle against corruption and drug trafficking would create a better atmosphere for private industry and international investment However, “We are at the threshold of four more years of progress,” he told legislators. Yet critics suggest that he will have to urgently tackle the nation’s social crisis, with more than eight thousand reported homicides in Ecuador over the last year, Additionally, official data show that less than half the population have full-time jobs. Noboa’s inauguration was attended by President of Colombia Gustavo Petro, President of Peru Dina Boluarte, and U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy. In 2023, Noboa won a snap election. He completed the term of President Guillermo Lasso, who had dissolved Ecuador’s National Assembly and resigned to avoid impeachment over alleged mismanagement. Noboa won a second-round runoff on April 13 against lawyer Luisa Gonzalez, and his party has control over parliament due to what observers view as complicatedpolitical alliances. 24. Friend, when God says Hineini! Isaiah 58:8-9a Then shall your light break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall spring up speedily; your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of the LORD shall be your rear guard. 9a Then you shall call, and the LORD will answer; you shall cry, and he will say, ‘Here I am.’ When we hear the word Hineini—"Here I am," many of us immediately think of the prophet Isaiah in chapter 6, standing before the throne of God, overwhelmed by His holiness. After being cleansed by the burning coal, Isaiah hears the Lord ask, "Whom shall I send?" and responds with the now-famous phrase: "Hineini—Here am I. Send me." It's a powerful moment of surrender and commissioning. But what's easy to miss is that God Himself also uses this same word in Isaiah 58:9: "Then you will call, and the LORD will answer; you will cry for help, and He will say: 'Hineini.'" Selah -- Think about that. We usually think of Hineini as our response to God: “Here I am, send me.” It speaks of readiness, obedience, and surrender—and it is. But in this passage, we see something even more stunning—God says it first. The God of the universe answers the cries of His people not just with action, but with His presence. He says, “Hineini”—“Here I am.” When God called Abraham to lay his beloved son on the altar, Abraham didn't hesitate—he answered, “Hineini.” (Genesis 22:1) When God called Moses from the burning bush to confront Pharaoh and deliver a nation, Moses stood barefoot on holy ground and said, “Hineini.” (Exodus 3:4) When God’s voice thundered through the heavens in Isaiah’s vision, the prophet stepped forward and declared, “Hineini, send me.” (Isaiah 6:8) But in Isaiah 58, the pattern is reversed. God says to a repentant, humbled nation: “Hineini.” He’s not just summoning us to come near—He is declaring that He already has. He’s not far off. He’s not waiting for us to earn our way through ritual or religious perfection. He’s watching. He’s waiting. He longs for people who will humble themselves, not just with words but with their whole heart. To a repentant people, God doesn't just answer prayers—He shows up. Not through an intermediary. Not from a distance. He steps in and says, "Hineini." I’m here. I’m near. I’m with you. Ultimately, we see Hineini in Yeshua (Jesus), who knocks at the door of every heart. In the Hebrew New Testament, Revelation 3:20 begins with this very word—Hineni—"Here am I, I stand at the door and knock..." This is a clear echo of God’s continual desire to be present, personal, and available to all who will open to Him. Friend, so yes, let's be like Isaiah and say, "Hineini--Here am I, Lord, send me." But let's never forget--we can say it because God said it first. 25. by Emmitt Barry, Worthy News Correspondent (Worthy News) – Hamas is undergoing what insiders describe as its worst crisis since the group’s founding in 1987, as financial collapse, public discontent, and leadership voids grip the organization across multiple fronts. According to a Saturday report by the Saudi daily Asharq Al-Awsat, the terrorist group is reeling from financial turmoil in Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon. The situation is particularly severe in Gaza, where public support has visibly eroded amid widespread economic hardship and unpaid salaries. Sources within Hamas told the paper that the group is facing an unprecedented moment, unable to cover the wages of its military operatives, civil servants, and administrators. In the last four months, workers reportedly received only 900 shekels (roughly $240) in total, sparking growing resentment. Operational budgets have been slashed, and support payments to the families of dead or detained militants have been suspended entirely. The organization’s military wing continues to function, though at a diminished capacity. Insiders reported a severe shortage of weaponry and an inability to pay fighters. Leadership vacuums have also emerged following a wave of Israeli targeted assassinations that eliminated key figures overseeing internal operations and finances. Asharq Al-Awsat noted that Hamas activity in the West Bank has also been crippled, with many terror cells dismantled by Israeli and Palestinian Authority crackdowns. Those that remain are either inactive or limited in operational capacity, with many operatives arrested or killed. While Hamas maintains international infrastructure, the group is encountering growing pressure in Lebanon. There, its representative faces pressure from authorities to disarm, adding further strain to the organization’s regional influence. This report confirms and builds upon earlier findings published by Worthy News on April 17, citing The Wall Street Journal, which detailed Hamas’s growing dependence on black market humanitarian aid sales, taxation of merchants, and seizure of goods to fund its activities. Israeli military operations have not only choked off these lifelines but also eliminated central financial handlers and operatives, dealing further blows to Hamas’s logistical backbone. “The situation is extremely difficult and devastating,” Hamas sources admitted to Asharq Al-Awsat, though they expressed hope of eventual recovery after the war, despite acknowledging it may take years. Public frustration is mounting in Gaza, where residents in southern areas staged multiple days of protests against Hamas this week, voicing anger over worsening living conditions and the group’s failure to provide for civilians amid ongoing war. As the cash-strapped terrorist organization teeters on the brink of bankruptcy, analysts warn that humanitarian aid shipments entering Gaza risk being seized or hijacked by Hamas in a desperate attempt to secure a financial lifeline. With traditional funding channels cut off and black-market revenues dwindling, aid diversion may become a critical survival tactic for the group.
