The Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA), in cooperation with researchers from the University of Cologne, revealed the extraordinary find on May 14 following salvage excavations at Tel Malḥata, an ancient settlement near the Nevatim airbase. Once a crossroads for trade from Arabia, India, and Africa, the site has yielded evidence of human occupation stretching from the Bronze Age through the Byzantine period. Among 155 tombs unearthed, three stood out—each containing human remains alongside figurines depicting individuals with prominent African features. Two of the figurines were carved from ebony, a luxurious black wood native to southern India and Sri Lanka. These were found with the remains of a woman and a child buried side by side, likely mother and son. Another grave held a young woman accompanied by similar grave goods, including a bone-carved figurine. Researchers suggest that these items, especially the pendants with small perforations, were worn around the neck and served not merely as decorative artifacts, but as intimate expressions of ancestral memory, identity, and continuity of tradition—even after conversion to Christianity. “It is possible that the figures represent ancestors, and thus they reflect traditions passed down from generation to generation,” the research team wrote in the journal Atiqot. Trade routes running through Tel Malḥata may have facilitated their migration, as well as the arrival of exotic goods like spices and ebony. The graves, dated to the sixth or seventh century A.D., coincide with the spread of Christianity under Ethiopian Emperor Justin I. The targeted villages—Munga Dosso, Munga Lelau, and Bandawa in Karim Lamido County—were left in ruins as homes were burned and residents slaughtered. “More than 42 Christians killed… our houses have been burnt,” said local resident Miriam Silas. Taraba Governor Kefas Agbu condemned the attack as “horrendous and unacceptable,” promising to bring the attackers to justice. Police have since been deployed to the area. Authorities described the suspect as a 53-year-old white British man, saying he was detained at the scene of the collision on Water Street in the heart of the city, meters (feet) away from the Royal Liver Building and the town hall. Witnesses said the accident occurred after roads had been reopened following the main parade. “Scenes of jubilation with thousands of Liverpool fans lining the streets to celebrate their club’s Premier League victory were rapidly replaced with scenes of fear and confusion, as emergency services arrived on the street at about 6 p.m. [local time],” Britain’s The Guardian newspaper commented. Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the scenes “appalling,” while Liverpool FC offered its “thoughts and prayers” to those affected by the incident. Footage showed police cordons in place around the heavily littered road, with a significant police presence, ambulances, and a fire engine at the scene. Dramatic images seen by Worthy News captured a driver purposely driving his vehicle into the crowd. The car was then stormed by an angry crowd and a person was being taken away on a stretcher. DOZENS INJURED About 30 people were reportedly treated for injuries or shock in an Italian restaurant opposite Liverpool town hall, around the corner from the scene of the collision. The motive for the possible attack wasn’t immediately clear. Witnesses were in shock. “I grabbed my daughter and dived out of the way,” recalled Matt Cole, a reporter for the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) who happened to be on the scene. “Just after 18:00 [local time], a car drove down Dale Street towards the Strand. This was about 10 minutes after the bus carrying the Liverpool team had passed by,” Cole recalled in remarks monitored by Worthy News. “Thousands of people were walking down Dale Street when a commotion broke out, and people began screaming as a car drove through the crowd.” The car, Cole added, “carried on, as it passed by men gave chase, the rear window was broken. An ambulance trying to make its way through the crowd was forced to stop by the size of the crowd, and this formed a barrier in the road, which forced the car to stop.” The incident occurred shortly before Liverpool FC paraded the Premier League trophy, a moment that seemed all but forgotten as the extent of the tragedy became clear. In a joint letter released Sunday, the leaders of Denmark, Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Italy, and Poland criticized the court’s interpretation of the European Convention on Human Rights, which they say has repeatedly blocked common-sense efforts to remove dangerous individuals from their borders. “These rulings have severely limited our ability to make political decisions in our own democracies,” the letter states. “It is beyond our comprehension how some people can come to our countries, enjoy our freedoms and opportunities–and then choose to commit crimes.” The nine countries are calling for a rebalancing of priorities–arguing that the rights and security of law-abiding citizens must take precedence over the rights of foreign criminals and illegal migrants. The attacks, beginning May 4, have crippled critical infrastructure and displaced hundreds more in a nation already reeling from the world’s worst displacement crisis. The RSF, accused by the U.S. of committing genocide, reportedly used Chinese-made drones believed to be supplied by the United Arab Emirates. Despite UAE denials, both UN reports and eyewitnesses link the drone launches to UAE Red Sea bases, not RSF-held zones. Sudan has now officially labeled the strikes “terrorist attacks” and named the UAE its “regional sponsor.” The strikes targeted Port Sudan’s airport, fuel depots, seaport, and oil refinery, disrupting aid flows and marine traffic. Germany’s new chancellor, Friedrich Merz, made the announcement after Moscow launched its third consecutive night of massive drone strikes against Ukraine overnight into Monday. “There are no longer any restrictions on the range of weapons delivered to Ukraine – neither by the U.K., France, nor us. There are no restrictions by the US either,” Merz reportedly said during a discussion forum organized by Germany’s public broadcaster WDR. “This means that Ukraine can now defend itself, for example, by attacking military positions in Russia,” the chancellor added. “Until recently, it couldn’t do that, and apart from very few exceptions, it hadn’t done so either.” His remarks came ahead of Zelenskyy’s reportedly Wednesday visit to Berlin, where he will meet with Merz and German president Frank-Walter Steinmeier. The chancellor’s unprecedented remarks came shortly after Russia fired a record 355 Shahed drones as well as nine cruise missiles, officials said, despite U.S. President Donald J. Trump’s mounting anger over the attacks. Trump warned late Sunday night that if Russian President Vladimir Putin attempts to conquer all of Ukraine, it will lead to the “downfall” of Russia. MORE DEVASTATING STRIKES It suggested more devastating military strikes against Russia were possible, despite concerns it could internationalize an armed conflict that is believed to have killed and injured more than a million people since Moscow launched its full scale invasion of Ukraine on February 2022. There had been hesitation to approve the use of more effective long-range missiles by Kyiv amid fears of an escalation of the conflict, including over Russia’s nuclear capabilities. Ukraine previously received long-range missiles from Washington, London, and Paris, but it was initially only allowed to use them against Russian military targets in occupied Ukrainian territories. However, there were exceptions. Last April, Ukraine reportedly used longer-range ballistic missiles called Army Tactical Missile System (Atcams) – supplied by then U.S. President Joe Biden’s administration – for the first time after Washington okayed the operation. The U.S. president, who held two hours of talks with his Russian counterpart in recent days, declared on social media that Putin was “absolutely CRAZY” after Russia’s deadly drone and missile strikes on Ukraine over the weekend, killing at least a dozen people, including children Echoing remarks from the European Union, Trump stressed he was seriously considering imposing “more sanctions on Russia” following the attacks. Bos, Chief International Correspondent Worthy News SEATTLE, USA (Worthy News) – An investigation was ongoing Sunday into violence that broke against a Christian rally in the U.S. city of Seattle, where believers expressed concern about what they view as efforts to “indoctrinate” children with the LGBTQ+ agenda. Mayday USA, a conservative Christian group, brought its #DontMessWithOurKids gathering to Seattle on Saturday, the fourth of five stops on a national tour. Organizers say the #DontMessWithOurKids movement “refuses to stand idly by while the children of our nation are indoctrinated by liberal, political, and sexual agenda that seeks to destroy their God-given identities.” However, Worthy News observed that the rally also focused on the Gospel, with Gospel singers and crowds enthusiastically singing Christian songs. Yet footage obtained by Worthy News showed activists interrupting the rally, some violently, forcing police to intervene. Several people were tackled on the ground while a Gospel concert continued on stage. One man could be seen holding a sign: “I love my gay kid.” The Seattle Police Department said it made 23 arrests—22 adults and a juvenile—in Cal Anderson Park. One officer was reportedly injured. ‘FAR RIGHT RALLY’ However, Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell, a Democrat, claimed that a “far-right” rally was being held in the park to “provoke a reaction by promoting beliefs that are inherently opposed to our city’s values, in the heart of Seattle’s most prominent LGBTQ+ neighborhood.” He added that “anarchists” had infiltrated a group of counter-protestors opposing the rally and “inspired violence,” prompting arrests and causing the event to be shut down early. In a statement obtained by Worthy News, evangelist Ross Johnston said he wasn’t surprised about the protests against the rally. “We have “protesters” coming to our protest which always increases the glory of the Lord Church, tension and pushback is a part of the Christian life,” he explained in a statement seen by Worthy News. “Think of Peter, Paul, Jesus – they all faced resistance but it only led to greater measures of salvation, healing and deliverance! Many of them will be saved and encounter Jesus! Can’t wait!” he added. Ross suggested he has a message for the LGBTQ# community and others searching for Christ in their lives. Valentin Mbaibarem was among those captured on May 7, said the Archbishop of Garoua, adding that “he is in good physical condition.” It was not immediately clear who had been responsible for the kidnapping and whether arrests had been made. The Cameroonian parish priest of St. John the Baptist Church in the town of Madingring was kidnapped with the other five other people, Vatican sources said. Archbishop Faustin Ambassa Ndjodo of Garoua said in published remarks that “Mbaibarem was released” on the night of May 15 to 16. The priest has seen a doctor and is reportedly in good physical condition. He was the last of six hostages to be freed. Four were released before him, and one died in captivity, several sources said. Local press reported that a ransom of about $42,000 had been demanded for the priest’s release. According to an IDF spokesperson, more than 2,900 targets have been struck since the latest ceasefire ended in March, and over 800 terrorists have been eliminated — including 11 senior Hamas officials, 10 battalion commanders, 18 company commanders, and two senior members of Hamas’s military intelligence apparatus. “Gideon’s Chariots” picks up where Operation “Firm Hand” left off — a campaign in which the IDF split Gaza in two, cleared Rafah, and secured critical corridors.
