  1. (Worthy News) - U.S. forecasters expect the 2018 Atlantic hurricane season will be near-normal to above-normal in number and intensity of storms, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Climate Prediction Center said on Thursday. The forecasters estimate between one and four major hurricanes packing winds of 111 miles per hour (178.6 kph) could develop during the 2018 season, which begins June 1. The NOAA forecast also said about half of the 10 to 16 named storms will be hurricane strength with winds of at least 74 mph (119 kph). 2. (Worthy News) - President Trump’s proposed budget would add $2.3 trillion more to deficits over the next decade than the White House estimated, the Congressional Budget Office said Thursday. CBO, Congress’ agency for producing budget analyses, said Trump’s fiscal year 2019 budget would add $9.5 trillion to total deficits over the decade, not the $7.2 trillion the White House projected. The difference is mostly attributable to the CBO's estimate of slower economic growth. Less growth means smaller tax collections and thus higher deficits. Thursday’s analysis applied to the budget proposal that the White House submitted in February. 3. (Worthy News) - The pastor of a church on Tanzania’s semi-autonomous Zanzibar Island was preaching earlier this month when a plainclothes police officer and local officials strode into the church service. “One of the police officers in civilian clothes walked through the church’s door, stepped up to the podium and then grabbed the bishop by the arm,” a church member told Morning Star News. “The bishop pleaded with him to allow him finish the preaching.” The congregation of the Pentecostal Evangelistic Fellowship of Africa (PEFA) church in Kisauni, near the Zanzibar City airport, was gripped with fear that day (May 6) as the pulpit microphone picked up Bishop Daniel Kwileba Kwiyeya’s plea. The regional and local district commissioners ordered him to stop the worship service as the officer dragged him into a police car, said the church member, unidentified for security reasons. 4. (Worthy News) - Two highly classified briefings with the FBI and Justice Department took place Thursday about an FBI informant who contacted the Trump campaign. The pair of high-level briefings for lawmakers is an effort to ease Republican pressure over the Russia investigation, after President Trump said that a confidential informant made contact with several of his top advisors during the 2016 presidential campaign. By the time both sessions ended Thursday evening, each side had their time before reporters’ microphones. "This administration is deeply engaged on religious freedom," Brownback said in an exclusive interview with CBN's National Security Correspondent Erik Rosales. "I do believe Andrew Brunson will be brought home. It doesn't make any sense what the Turkish government is doing. There is no factual basis for these charges," Brownback also said in the exclusive interview. 6. (Worthy News) - A California judge has issued his final judgment in favor of a Christian baker who refused to bake a cake for a same-sex “wedding,” ruling that cakes celebrating events are a form of speech. Last August, Mireya and Eileen Rodriguez-Del Rio sought a wedding cake from Tastries Bakery owner Cathy Miller, who declined on the grounds that affirming a homosexual union would violate her Christian beliefs, Bakersfield.com reports. The couple filed a complaint with California’s Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH), arguing that the state’s Unruh Civil Rights Act forbids businesses from refusing to provide services on the basis of sexual orientation (among other grounds). “Everyone is God’s creation and I love everyone,” Miller has previously explained. “But there are certain things that violate my conscience, and my conscience will not allow me to participate in things that I feel are wrong. Most of what that’s based on is scripture.” [ Source: Life Site News (Read More...) ] The post Judge rules Christian baker does not have to make gay ‘wedding’ cake appeared first on Worthy Christian News. 8. (Worthy News) - Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, hospitalized in Ramallah for treatment of a lung infection, is generating widespread concern for his overall health since it’s the third time in less than one week that the octogenarian has been hospitalized. Doctors have not said publicly how long they intend to hold the president at Al-Istishari Arab Hospital, but concern has grown exponentially as the diagnosis progressed from ear infection to high fever to lung infection, not unrelated to previous health bouts including one with prostate cancer a few years ago. Public confidence was not boosted when it became known that Abbas was hospitalized for the lung infection and not for tests was first announced. Mahmoud Al-Aloul, vice president of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO), told The Media Line that the president’s condition is now improving. The images come hours after a series of explosions demolished a supposed test site, located in the mountains of the country, and was witnessed by invited foreign journalists. 12. (Worthy News) - North Korea responded on Friday with measured tones to U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to call off a historic summit with leader Kim Jong Un scheduled for next month, saying Pyongyang hoped for a “Trump formula” to resolve the standoff over its nuclear weapons program. On Thursday, Trump wrote a letter to Kim to announce his withdrawal from what would have been the first-ever meeting between a serving U.S. president and a North Korean leader in Singapore on June 12. Trump’s announcement came after repeated threats by North Korea to pull out of the summit over what it saw as confrontational remarks by U.S. officials. 13. (Worthy News) - Turkey is trying desperately to halt a collapse in its currency that could trigger an economic crisis just as the country prepares to vote in an election. The lira has plunged about 20% against the US dollar since the start of the year, hurt by a broader move by investors to switch money out of emerging markets and into the United States. But the currency crisis escalated rapidly earlier this month after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan indicated he wanted to take control of setting interest rates, which he described as "the mother and father of all evil." 14. Worthy News Brief - May 24, 2018 Friend, who do you know? James 4:8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Clean your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double minded. My wife and I are celebrating our 16 year wedding anniversary today and it would seem that I know her pretty well. But every once in a while, she says or does something that surprises me -- and I think to myself "Wow, I guess I didn't know her as well as I thought!" The more time I spend with her, the more I get to know her -- her heart, her character -- the more we become intimate. The same is true with any relationship but especially our most important relationship, that is, our relationship with the Lord. There's really no going around it. True intimacy doesn't come in an instant. It takes time. If we want to be close to the Lord, we must spend time with Him -- getting to know Him -- His heart -- His character. Do you feel distant from the Lord? Let's commit to spending some special time with Him -- not only making requests and telling Him about our problems, but maybe listening a little. Perhaps there are some things He'd like to tell us! Friend, there is much work to do for the Kingdom! Let's make intimacy with our Father a top priority so that we are able to get that work accomplished! Your family in the Lord with much agape love, George, Baht Rivka, Elianna & Obadiah Arad, Israel Friend, if our ministry has blessed you, consider supporting our work online and in Israel! 19. (Worthy News) - A federal judge in Manhattan ruled Wednesday it is a violation of the First Amendment for President Trump to block critics from viewing his Twitter account. “This case requires us to consider whether a public official may, consistent with the First Amendment, ‘block’ a person from his Twitter account in response to the political views that person has expressed, and whether the analysis differs because that public official is the President of the United States," U.S. District Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald said in her ruling. 20. (Worthy News) - Iranian officials on Wednesday dismissed a series of demands from US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, saying the US was afraid to face Iran in battle and vowed to push ahead with its military programs. On Monday, Pompeo said the Trump administration was preparing to impose “the strongest sanctions in history” on Tehran after withdrawing from the Iran nuclear deal earlier this month, as he laid out a list of demands for a new treaty. “Iranian armed forces are now, thank God, more prepared than ever and will not wait for the permission or approval of any foreign power to develop defense capabilities,” Mohammad Bagheri, the chief of staff of Iran’s armed forces, said according to Iran’s Mehr news agency, an apparent reference to their missile program. 21. (Worthy News) - The White House is considering action against Palestinian diplomats in Washington after Ramallah asked the International Criminal Court on Tuesday to investigate alleged Israeli crimes, The Times of Israel has learned. According to a US law passed in December 2015, the Palestinian Authority is subject to penalties if it pursues the prosecution of Israelis at the Hague-based ICC. One of those ramifications includes the closing of their diplomatic mission to the United States, run by the Palestine Liberation Organization. “We are reviewing this latest development to determine if it requires changes to the operating status of the PLO office in Washington, D.C., which has been limited to activities related to achieving a lasting, comprehensive peace between the Israelis and Palestinians since November 2017,” a National Security Council spokesperson said. 23. (Worthy News) - A team of California-based weapons researchers has uncovered evidence suggesting Iran is developing long-range missile technology at a secret facility in the Iranian desert. Recent Iranian state television programs memorialized the late Gen. Hassan Tehrani Moghaddam, a military scientist who was killed in a massive explosion at Iran's major missile base near Tehran in November 2011. Researchers at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey, California, reviewed the footage and came across what they say is evidence of a second missile facility operating to this day, the New York Times reported Wednesday. The researchers also examined satellite photos of the facility and believe work at the site is currently focused on advanced rocket engines and rocket fuel. That’s much harder when you have a client who is the president of the United States and wants to be interviewed.” Giuliani has cast doubt on Trump interviewing with Mueller in the past. Party founder Dennis Avi Lipkin, who is a veteran speaker to Evangelical Christians in the US, said he believes he will also receive support from millions of Western immigrants who he expects will move to Israel in the near future. “Our goal is to promote the Jewish-Christian alliance and togetherness,” Lipkin said. “For 2,000 years, Jews and Christians hated each other.
