I just wanted to talk about the appalling massacre in New Zealand and what it means. The rise of right wing extremism and white nationalism is real and too many of us have been asleep at the wheel. When 50 people, including innocent children are mowed down it is time to think about how we portray our neighbors and what sort of news we consume. These thugs were consumed by hatred and fear, and that fear got fed by a steady stream of ultra right wing disinformation and fear mongering. Everyone needs to start standing up to extremists to make it clear they and their way of thinking are not in line with polite society and certainly not how the vast majority of us see things. They need to know they're alone in their hatred and nothing they do will allow them to drag us down with them.
