Guest Filipe
Hi again, fellows. Another tough issue. The Holy bible tells us that Adam and Eve had three sons: Cain, Abel and Seth. Abel was killed by Cain and Seth followed his own way. But my point is, if the Bible just tells us about these three, who was wife of Cain and later, who was wife of Seth? In Genesis 5:4, the Word says that after Seth, Adam had more children. So, did Cain and Seth married their sisters?
Guest LadyC
there were no other people on earth yet, so the answer must be yes. i know this flies in the face of the prohibitions against incest. but i do not believe that there was incest prohibitions at the time. God told adam and eve to be fruitful and multiply. it was later (leviticus 18) when God laid out the rules on whom one could or could not marry. by that point in history, two things had occurred... first, the earth was populated enough that marriage within the family was no longer necessary.... two, the sin of man which caused us to begin the process of dying at birth had probably reached a point where recessive genetic problems were beginning to rear their ugly heads. maybe someone else has a better explanation.... i'm looking forward to seeing the responses! God told adam and eve to be fruitful and multiply. Yup. The only other rule, was to not eat the fruit of that tree. Considering the sinful state of mankind, maybe 50% obedience ain't so bad...?? Rememmber Adam and Eve were of child bearing ago for hundreds of years. It is highly probable there were many brother and sister marriages. We should not draw conclusions from Scripural silence. Guest LCPGUY
As LadyC alluded to, in the days of Adam and Eve, the gene poll was not yet corrupt. So incest was not a problem. Incest being a sin only occurred later on as sin began to prevail. I also believe that the fallen angels having children with human women had a great deal to do with a corrupted gene pool, DNA if you will. Since Noah and his family were pure so to speak, I don't think they were infected by that, rather as time went on and the world was no longer the paradise it once was that sin and corruption began to take its toll. It has a lineage in it from Adam down through his family, and you can get a clearer idea as to the names of the sisters they (Cain and Seth) married.
