FEAR OF THE LORD = Job 28;28, Psalm 111;10, Proverbs 5;16

Job 28;28

And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

Psalm 19;9

The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.

Psalm 111;10

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do His commandments: His praise endureth forever.

Proverbs 1;7

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Proverbs 8;13

The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.

Proverbs 10;27

The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.

Proverbs 14;26-27

In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge. The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

Proverbs 15;16

Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith.

Proverbs 19;23

The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.

Proverbs 23;17-18

Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long. For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.

AMEN

I am currently reading the scriptures of the tribe of Israel taking the Promised Land for the people living there.  The Israelite people and warriors, led by Joshua and Caleb, had witnessed the power of God time after time as they destroyed the inhabitants of the land.  Fear is everywhere.  The people of the land have seen the power of God.  They have heard the testimonies of those who witnessed the miracles provided by God to his chosen people when he took them out of Egypt.  They have heard the stories of the Israelite suffering for their disobedience while they wandered the desert for 40 years.  Now these people saw with their own eyes as the Israelite's came in to destroy them, their families, their property.  It was too late for them to be saved.  They cried out in fear to their gods and nothing saved them.  They were not spared by God in his wrath towards them.  God knew there was no way to change their evil hearts.  They were lost to him.

Do we live in a time where the wrath of God is evident?

We have numerous scriptures that tell us to fear God.  I remember as a little girl, when my mother would warn me, "Wait until your father gets home!"  For hours I feared the wrath of my father for whatever my wrong was.  I knew the punishment was inevitable.  We live in a day and age where fear is moving across the land in the believer and the unbeliever.  When the unknown, from day to day, is holding our minds hostage, we become afraid of what will happen.  Children of the Most High God know that only He can calm the fears of the day.  He can and will replace the fear with courage and wisdom.  There is nothing going on today that has not happened in times past.  It may be a more modern world but the hearts and actions of mankind are the same.

Exodus 20:20 (NIV)
Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. God has come to test you, so that the fear of God will be with you to keep you from sinning.”

Those who fear God and seek to live according to his words and commandments will be saved.  Those who follow false gods, those who follow their selfish desires, those who have no fear of the Most High God will be destroyed, annihilated, obliterated, wiped from the face of the earth, just as those who lived in the Promised Land.
