Careful not to let perfect mean anything other than what the verses in James show us in there context and how the word was used in the time that it was written. If things are complete they have met their desire end therefore they are perfect. It is not subjective. In Matthew 5, starting with verse 43, we have these verses about what it means to be perfect: “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect." Then in 1 Corinthians 13 (the "love chapter") verse 10 says, "But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away." 1 John 4:18 tells us, "There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out all fear, because fear has torment. He that fears is not made perfect in love." These verses equate perfection with love. This also fits perfectly (no pun intended) with how Jesus answered in Matthew 22:36-40 when asked what was the greatest commandment - it's all about love.
