I think/I know the problem is that even though I don't like to admit it, I think I maybe addicted to porn. I have a girlfriend, getting married in the near future and she knows nothing about it. I love her more than words can say and know that looking at porn on Tv and on internet is wrong. I keep trying not to do it, have prayed for years for the addiction to be taken away but the urge is so strong. Once I've done it I keep thinking I shouldn't have and feel guilty. I want to break this as I do feel bad and want to stop dishonouring God and my girlfriend. I've never spoken to anyone about this. What can I do? Brother I also have this problem At a church Ihad gone to have a ministry called Every Man's Battle it deals with all forms of sexual immorality. With other brothers going through the same battle it is not only possible but probable to overcome. It is a very powerful battle that can be defeated through the Word and other brothers who we can turn to for help before we fall. Also get a porn filter on your computer with an accountability partner(another MALE).Together we will win with the help of the Lord Jesus. Not to presume to know your heart, but I'm guessing you are having trouble letting go of this sin 'cause you think it'll spoil your fun and it will take something away from your life. You are wondering how you'll live without it. You're trying to figure out some way to keep your options open without offending your girlfriend and sinning against God. Close? I felt sorta like that about every bad sin habit I've ever given to God. And ya know what? Every time I would get past it, I'd wonder why it was so important to me in the first place. The hold it has on you is the lie of the evil one. He's keeping you from having a fuller life and more abundant joy. Would you browse porn sites if Jesus was sitting next to you? Well, He is. Put an empty chair next to yours and remind yourself that He is with you always. Not for fear of punishment. But to remember that he wants the best for you. This isn't the best. It grieves Him what you are doing to yourself. He loves you so much that He went to the cross to take the punishment for your porn habit. Can you let go of it for love of Him? Or perhaps even turning off your internet? Do you use your internet for much besides email (for your job or something?). I would suggest you put a filter on your computer that only allows you to access certain sites, your email account for example. Now you can obviously get around these filters, but maybe a little pop-up or access denied might give you the time you need to think about the sin you are about to commit. As for the TV... perhaps you should just cancel Cable! I know that I don't get in channels with porn on them, so I bet with a call to your television provider, you could cut off that temptation! Most importantly, keep praying, remember that your porn addiction could hurt your girlfriend, whom you love very much! If you try to give up an addiction for your own sake, thats hard, but think about it as letting go of the addiction for the sake of Jesus and your girlfriend!
