Testing and Establishing Sound Doctrine

7+ Steps to testing a doctrine:

1) Gather and integrate all Scriptures that appear to support it.

2) Gather all Scriptures that appear to contradict it.

    3) Remove any parts of the doctrine that cannot truthfully respond to #2’s Scriptures. Be honest: avoid using vague or dubious counter-arguments. Revise and integrate the remaining parts of the doctrine.

4) Submit the revision to others, especially via open forums, to elicit more submissions of Scriptures 1 and 2.

5) Revise the doctrine by repeating steps 1 and 2.

6) Re-submit to the forums.

7+) Keep repeating until the doctrine is either firmly established or is not.

Anyone that cannot objectively and dispassionately seek to refute his own doctrine(s) should not presume to teach.

1 Thessalonians 5:21 Test all things; hold fast what is good.

James 5:1 My brethren, do not become many teachers, knowing that we shall receive the greater judgment.

2 Timothy 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, having itching ears, they will be heaping up to themselves teachers.

This prophecy is being robustly fulfilled! including on WCF.
