Egypt, Part 1: Its Coming 40-Year Desolation

Ezekiel 29:10 …“I will make the land of Egypt utterly waste and desolate from Migdol [N. Egypt] to Syene [= Aswan, S Egypt], even unto the border of Ethiopia. 11 NEITHER FOOT OF MAN SHALL PASS THROUGH IT NOR FOOT OF BEAST PASS THROUGH IT, AND IT SHALL BE UNINHABITED FORTY YEARS. 12 I will make the land of Egypt desolate in the midst of the lands having been desolated; and among the cities that are laid waste, her cities shall be desolate forty years; and I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations and disperse them throughout the countries.” 13 Yet, thus says the Lord GOD: “AT THE END OF FORTY YEARS, I WILL GATHER THE EGYPTIANS FROM THE PEOPLES AMONG WHOM THEY WERE SCATTERED. 14 I WILL BRING BACK THE CAPTIVES OF EGYPT and cause them to return to the land of Pathros [Southern Egypt], to the land of their origin, and there they shall be a lowly kingdom.”

Isaiah 11:15 And the LORD will utterly destroy the tongue of the sea [or, estuary] of Egypt; and will wave his hand over the river with his scorching wind, and smite it into seven channels, and cause men to tread it in sandals. … 19:5 And the waters of the sea [or, estuary] will be dried up, and the river will be parched and dry; 6 and its streams will fail, and the canals of Egypt will diminish and dry up; reed and rush will wither. … 22 And THE LORD WILL STRIKE EGYPT, HE WILL STRIKE IT AND HEAL IT; AND THEY WILL RETURN TO THE LORD, AND HE WILL BE ENTREATED BY THEM AND HEAL THEM. 24 In that day Israel shall be a third to Egypt and to Assyria, a blessing in the midst of the earth, 25 whom the LORD of Hosts shall bless, saying, “Blessed be Egypt my people, and Assyria the work of My hands, and Israel My inheritance.”

The scriptures above, and to follow below, indicate that the worldwide cataclysms of the 6th Seal – “when every mountain and island [is] moved out of its place" (Rev. 6:14) – will disrupt the course of the Nile, and leave Egypt barren. Then after 40 full years, the cataclysms of the 7th Bowl will bring another “great earthquake, such a mighty and great earthquake as had not occurred since men were on the earth.” Rev. 16:18 At that time, God will use this latter disruption to restore the Nile to its original course.

The 7th Bowl’s great earthquake and its effects are also prophesied in Ezekiel and Zechariah:

Ezekiel 38:19 …in that day there shall be a great shaking in the land of Israel… 20 …and the mountains shall be thrown down, and the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground.

Zechariah 14:4 …and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof from east to west, [causing] a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south. … 10 All the land shall be transformed like the [plain of the] Arabah, from Geba [N. Judah] to Rimmon [S. Judah]…

Now, forty years was the duration of the exile of the Israelites in the wilderness. That trial began with the great earthquake at Mount Sinai in the first year. It was culminated when, after 40 years, Joshua fought against the assembled kings of Canaan – at which time there was another great earthquake, described in Jasher 89:15. At both that battle and the latter-day Battle of Armageddon, “the LORD fought/will fight for Israel.” Joshua 10:14; Jasher 88:65; Zech. 14:3; see blog 16: The Three Earthquakes of Revelation.

After this final earthquake and the battle foretold in Zechariah 14 is over, Egypt will be one of the nations required to “go up from year to year [to Jerusalem]…to keep the Feast of Tabernacles.” Zech. 14:16, 18 SO THE 40-YEAR EXILE OF EGYPT EFFECTIVELY DATES THE PERIOD OF THE END TIMES FROM THE 6TH SEAL THROUGH THE 7TH BOWL.

More scriptural evidence of these things will be provided in Part 2.
