  1. Not if Kofi Annan has anything to say about it. Today he accused Israel of intentionaly attacking a U.N outpost and killing 4 U.N. soldiers. Kofi is an evil man and does not deserve his position if his primary goal is not peace. His comments and accusations show a clear and undeniable bias against Israel despite the decades of abuse Israel has suffered at the hands of terrorists. Even if the U.N somehow moved 20k troops to guard the border, someone like Kofi Annan would write some stupid directive preventing them from defending anything but their own butts.
  2. Still a little spirit left in them after all.
  3. Pakistan opposes an arms race in South Asia so they are expanding their nuclear weapons capabilies? Am I missing something here?
  4. I wish the Iranian leaders would shut up and stop rattling their sabers.
  5. Just what we need. Why don't we sell them a few ports while were at it?
  6. That article is a load of garbage. I doubt very much that they were evangelical Chrisitians especially when most of Mexico is Catholic. This is just another attempt to soil the image of Christianity. Secondly, no believing Christian would commit such acts. Just because they claimed to be Christian or Evangelicals, does not mean that they actually were.
  7. The Bible is the perfect book to BASE our laws on and believe it or not, thats what has been done. Obviously not every law has its foundations in the Bible nor have we applied the Bible literally to law. I don't think anyone of us would wish to live in an old testament style theocracy. As I have been told before, the old testament laws were meant for Jews. Paul even argued among the apostles so that the apostles would not try to impose Jewish laws, customs and culture upon the gentiles. We are told that the Bible and its teachings are to be used for reproof and correction. Some people like to look upon the Bible as a blueprint when its more like a watercolor painting. When you look at a blueprint you see nothing unless you look closer and closer. All you need to do to apreciate and understand a watercolor painting is to take a couple steps back and take it in.
  8. Hard to imagine isn't it? Not really, not anymore.
  9. River Forgive my brash behavior. My comments were meant only for those people who support the statements made in your post. You failed to use any emotes which made it impossible to pick up on any sarcasm, if that was indeed how you meant to come across. My comments, however, were not meant to be an attack on anyone but rather an agressive defense of what I believe and what I understand Christianity to support. The person who wrote those statements in defense of homosexuality was definately looking for excuses and self justification. I tend to get wound up about this particular topic and that list was begging to be countered.
  10. I get the strange feeling that the firing of rockets into Israel will soon come to an end. The Lebanese leadership needs to stay out of, regardless what the few Hezballah members on the counsel say. Isreal need to cleanse southern Lebanon so the U.N. can take over until such time as the Lebanese military is equiped to take over security resposibilites in that region of the country. It seems obvious at this point that the international community has decided to provide Lebanon with the means to secure all of its territories and borders. Somehow I don't think they will have any trouble assembling and training forces.
  11. None of these cut and paste statements makes any sense unless you are on a mission to promote homosexuality as normal or socially acceptable. You accuse Chrisitians of trying to force our religion on the rest of society when you yourself are doing the very same thing by asking society to be more "tolerant" and accepting of your lifestyle. Why not let society decide what is the norm and what is acceptable? As long as homosexuals are trying to redefine "social norms" you can bet that we will be there to defend Gods word and, if nothing else, the status quo.
  12. Nice try Amor, but you know as well as I do that Hezballa is resposible for these deaths by the simple fact that they set up their operations amongst the population. Not only were leaflets dropped all over the areas that were next to be hit, the Israeli radio and television has been broadcasting the warnings as well. They have done everything they can to save the lives of civilians and yet there are civilians dying. With all the warnings being given it would not be a surprise at all to find that Hezballah was indeed forcing people into their properties to make Israel look heartless and cold. It sounds like just the kind of tactic these coward terrorists would use.
  13. I don't even think that it is conceivable that Israel could eliminate Hezbollah. The best they can hope to do is drive them into Syria. They would then wait Israel out and make their way beck into Lebanon where they would rebuild and plan their next move. The only thing Israel can do here is push them far enough away from their border that they are no longer a threat. And then Hexbollah will just have to break down and by missiles with longer range from Iran or possibly even North Korea. What a statement that would make. Israel will only be buying time, even if the U.N. assumed the resposibilty of guarding the Israeli-Lebanon border. The inevitable conclusion is that Israel will always be at war, like mankind, untill Jesus return.
  14. I don't trust either. Nor do I trust the figures and representations/assertions being made in the links you posted. I trust my eyes and my instinct. Poor people are struggling to make ends meet. Some people might say that it is their lot in life or that the poor are reaping what they sow. While there is some truth in both statements we cannot use them carte blanche. I still believe the poor need some help and rather than increasing funding to welfare type programs we need to find a more constructive solution, on a whole, to help them all, not just a percentage. Increasing the minimum wage is simply paying for it on the front side rather in the rear with taxes. We should also understand that it costs the taxpayers to pay the government to distribute and manage these funds when we could cut them out of the loop and pay it all up front at the counter.
  15. Put up links to all the web sites you want. It still doesn't make you right. Nor would it make me right. You cannot convince me that our economy would collapse if the federal minimum wage were increased by 50 cents. I could argue that everyone who did manage to see some benfit from this would be spending more money and would boost the economy. Perhaps some of them might be able to afford to get off of food stamps or welfare. Wouldn't that be nice if fewer people were mooching off of us through government programs? There are pros and cons to every change but change is what we need. For a short time I went door to door trying to "give away" security systems in some of the poorest sections of town. I have seen how these people get by. Six to eight people living in a two or three bedroom paying the bills with everyones collective income. Cutting coupons just to be able to afford enough groceries while they drive their cars without the necessary insurance. Meanwhile the democrats continue to make them promises for some form of relief while the republicans whine about how it will affect the bottom line and manufacture dramatic scenarios about how people will lose their jobs if someone else in the company would get 50 cents more an hour. I mean, how many people do you believe actually make $5.15? While there may be quite a few companies that like to start employees at that rate, it does not mean they can't afford to pay them more. I would be willing to pay 20 cents more for my burger if I could see the window clerk smile a little more. Color it anyway you like. I still think it's time we stop ignoring those who live at or below the poverty line for sake of the big corporations bottom line.
  16. They need to do away with the political "party system" altogether. They are major reason our country is so polarised. Each party panders to the extremes on each side, playing each side against the middle. Republicans cater to to the rich while the Dems cater to the poor. With our own government so polarised I don't see how they could expect anything less of the population. I believe that Jesus even reminded us that a house divided can't stand. Unless this gap is bridged our country is doomed to implode.
  17. A country that used only the old testament to establish law would indeed be an unhappy place to live. However, the new testament and its effect on those very same laws would have to be considered. I mean, if we had a laws that said, love your neighbor as yourself that wouldn't be a bad thing. I am pretty sure Jesus covered the mosaic laws and why they were written and I have little doubt that the mosaic laws would be so strictly adhered to that would cause anyone to stone another for evengelising another religion.
  18. It's a little hard to comment on this since the IDF admits that the Syrian government may not even be aware of the transport of these missiles. At this point the only thing Israel is accusing Syria of is harboring Hezballah AND Hamas leaders and funneling money to both groups. It seems very unlikely that Israel will strike Syria considering the concert of warnings they have been given regarding escalation. Supposedly Iran has even made calls for Hezballah to cease firing missiles into Israel and to return the hostages. However, Iran has also stated that Hezballah has outgrown their need for Irans support, financial, logistical or otherways. If this were true it would indicate that there are groups in nations other than Iran or Syria that are funding the movement.
  19. Terrorists haven't got a clue what "open" war means. The last thing Hezballa wants is a stand up fight. They would rather hide in the crowd and hit you when your not looking. This is not war and it is not fighting. Terrorism is as much "fighting" as sitting in a deer stand or a duck blind is hunting. Let Hezballa meet either Israel or the U.S. in an open field if they want to call it a war. Otherwise it is nothing but calculated acts of cowardice.
  20. Perhaps you should have read the article. The son even admited that the mark on his body was caused by his brother and not the father. The father was falsely accused and consequently was aquitted. In my youth I pressed charges against my father for child abuse, which I later dropped. I did so to send him a clear message that his behavior was unacceptable and would not be tolerated. I love my father more than anyone in this world, and I tolerated alot as a child being the only boy, but I had my fill and would no longer remain silent in such matters. He got the message. I believe the same thing may have happened in this case. However, I would not put it passed some children these days to use such tactics as a form of blackmail. I think there are alot of children out there that could use a health dose of fear from their parents. These days it seems like too many time outs and taking away of the playstation when a heavy leather belt would earn the needed respect. I understand the need to clamp down on child abuse. I just think the government has too narrowly defined "abuse" and has tied parent hands in the effective raising of our children. Praise and love are definately the most effective tools in raising children but we must not overlook what a healthy respect for our parents and our elders contributes.
  21. As I understand it this will be the foundation of their campaign this year and they will use it to garner votes. While I support some form of a minimum wage increase I think the numbers that the Democrats are asking for are a bit much to ask for all things considered. I have seen where they wish to move it well above the $7 mark which would be a signicant jump from the $5.15 it is currently set at. I can understand most of the arguments against raising the minimum wage wether or not I support them. Republicans are well known for catering to big buisiness and I believe that is what is happening here. Big buisiness does not want a wage increase and so the republicans wish to counter it. Democrats are known for catering to the poor and in some cases creating dependancy on them through government funded programs. I can see why both sides want what they want. I, for one, simply think it's time for those earning minimum wage to be fairly compensated. At least once a week I run across someone in the service industry that is disgruntled about what they are doing, but moreover what they are making. We all know the effects money problems can have on the stress levels in the household. We must consider that these stresses are a major factor in the divorce rates in our country. The way I see it, is the republicans are only adding fuel to the fire by keeping the minimum wage low, when you consider the effect it is having on working class families. Say what you must, but it's time the working class got a booster shot, or we can sit back and continue to watch morral as well as morality go straight down the toilet.
  22. Someone tell me what good resolutions are. Are they basically statements on the position of a particular body? We hear of U.N. resolutions all day long but for the larger part are ignored. Is there a purpose to affirming your possition in writting rather than verbally? From what I have seen these resolutions are not really a precursor to any form of action other than the issuance of other resolutions. Perhaps I am confused or maybe the U.N. is setting a poor precident. I applaud the support that our government is giving Israel and am glad to see any measures to firm up our possition to continue to do so. It's just sometimes I would like to see more action and hear/read fewer words.
  23. I've been waiting for them to confront Hezballah on the ground. All this bombing, while necessary, is not leaving a possitive impression on the rest of the world. Israel needs to take it to the street if they want to do any serious damage to Hezballah. Truth is, I am confused why they waited this long to go after those who are firing missiles into Israel. After a limited time of shelling and bombing, the areas from which they suspected the missiles from being fired, and not seeing any results, you would think they would have rushed in to stop them as soon as they had the opportunity. As far as I am concerned they need to do everything they can to nip the firing of the missiles in the bud.
