  1. Let me point out Romans 6:1-2 then: 1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? 2 Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? Why was this asked?
  2. Let's look at Colossians 2:14 having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. What exactly do you think the "handwriting of requirements that was against us" is talking about? What does it describe? I understand they had to use the OT as a guide because until Jesus died they were still under the Old Law. All of this was during a transitional period. Since everyone has the word now there is no need for the law of Moses. The law of Moses was specifically for the children of Israel and since you or I cannot trace our lineage back to Abraham we no longer our bound to the old covenant, unless you still stone people... cause I mean if the old law still pertains to us then we should still be stoning people right? That they did but it specifically states they came together the first day of the week to break bread and to give of their means. I may be wrong here... but if memory serves me, they used music in praise not worship... worship and praise are two different things. I can't show you a place where God was displeased with instrumental music because there is nothing said about it being used. So why would one want to take that chance and use instruments to make man feel good about himself? Back to the baptism... what exactly do you believe one must do to be saved?
  3. So you think that worship can be done doing anything and everything? Including using the bathroom? Where does the bible say that? Jesus was the ultimate offering, meaning that the new covenant was now for all, not just the Jews. And thank you for welcoming me! I hope there's a lot we can learn from each other I agree but remember those who were being rebuked because they were teaching circumcision after it was not needed anymore... It is understood that the law being referred to is indeed a past law hence the term "old law" Galatians 3:16, 19 Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say,
  4. The topic at hand. The topic is "Can salvation be lost?" and the scriptures point out that it very well can.
  5. Back in August it was reported: A 10-year-old homeschool girl described as "well liked, social and interactive with her peers, academically promising and intellectually at or superior to grade level" has been told by a New Hampshire court official to attend a government school because she was too "vigorous" in defense of her Christian faith. The decision from Marital Master Michael Garner reasoned that the girl's "vigorous defense of her religious beliefs to [her] counselor suggests strongly that she has not had the opportunity to seriously consider any other point of view." The recommendation was approved by Judge Lucinda V. Sadler, but it is being challenged by attorneys with the Alliance Defense Fund, who said it was "a step too far" for any court. The ADF confirmed today it has filed motions with the court seeking reconsideration of the order and a stay of the decision sending the 10-year-old student in government-run schools in Meredith, N.H. The dispute arose as part of a modification of a parenting plan for the girl. The parents divorced in 1999 when she was a newborn, and the mother has homeschooled her daughter since first grade with texts that meet all state standards. In addition to homeschooling, the girl attends supplemental public school classes and has also been involved in a variety of extra-curricular sports activities, the ADF reported. But during the process of negotiating the terms of the plan, a guardian ad litem appointed to participate concluded the girl "appeared to reflect her mother's rigidity on questions of faith" and that the girl's interests "would be best served by exposure to a public school setting" and "different points of view at a time when she must begin to critically evaluate multiple systems of belief ... in order to select, as a young adult, which of those systems will best suit her own needs." According to court documents, the guardian ad litem earlier had told the mother, "If I want her in public school, she'll be in public school." The marital master hearing the case proposed the Christian girl be ordered into public school after considering "the impact of [her religious] beliefs on her interaction with others." "Parents have a fundamental right to make educational choices for their children. In this case specifically, the court is illegitimately altering a method of education that the court itself admits is working," said ADF-allied attorney John Anthony Simmons of Hampton. "The court is essentially saying that the evidence shows that, socially and academically, this girl is doing great, but her religious beliefs are a bit too sincerely held and must be sifted, tested by, and mixed among other worldviews. This is a step too far for any court to take." "The New Hampshire Supreme Court itself has specifically declared, 'Home education is an enduring American tradition and right,'" said ADF Senior Legal Counsel Mike Johnson. "There is clearly and without question no legitimate legal basis for the court's decision, and we trust it will reconsider its conclusions." The case, handled in the Family Division of the Judicial Court for Belknap County in Laconia, involves Martin Kurowski and Brenda Kurowski (Voydatch), and their daughter. The ADF also argued that the issue already was raised in 2006 and rejected by the court. "Most urgent
  6. 1 Corinthians 9:24 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. 25 And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. 26 Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. 27 But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified. 1 Corinthians 10:12 Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall. 13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. 2 Peter 1:10Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: Hebrews 3:12 Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God; Galatians 5:4 You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace. Hebrews 12:15 looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled; 2 Peter 2:20 For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning. 21 For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them. 22 But it has happened to them according to the true proverb:
  7. I only have time to address this point at the moment. Nowhere did I say that nor implied it. The bible is where that is found. If you have a problem with the written word then you need to take that up with God, not me. I'm just laying out for you what the bible says. Let me ask you, why would Peter say 'be baptized for the remission of sins' If baptism is not necessary? Was Peter lying or was he secretly implying that baptism is ok only if you want to do it? The verses are there, in black and white for all to see.
  8. Do you worship on the sabbath? Do you follow all the commands laid out specifically for that day? Deuteronomy 5:1-3, "And Moses called all Israel, and said unto them, Hear, O Israel, the statutes and judgments which I speak in your ears this day, that ye may learn them, and keep, and do them. The LORD our God made a covenant with us in Horeb. The LORD made not this covenant with our fathers, but with us, even us, who are all of us here alive this day." I have never heard it said that the law of Moses was for all. Israel was to be different from the rest of the world. If you notice it says that their fathers did not have this covenant but it was made for them. Hebrews 10: 8 Previously saying,
  9. I would recommend going here: churches of Christ It is not a "central headquarters" but it would give you an idea of what most churches follow.
  10. Colossians 2:11 In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins[c] of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, 12 buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. 13 And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, 14 having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. We are to use the Old Testament for examples but nowhere does it say we are under the Old Law anymore. Remember, two contracts cannot be binding at the same time. And I believe you cannot confirm that they were, so at that we would be at a standstill. 1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome. So you would agree that we keep His commandments right? Ephesians 5:19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord Last I checked, a musical instrument cannot make melody in it's heart. Besides, if God's word is perfect why would you want to add to it? Acts 2:36
  11. Yes but I am not jewish therefore I am not commanded to follow the law of Moses. We can agree on this but again, we are not commanded to obey all of the old laws. No but others would almost swear by it that instruments are almost a commandment for worship. No. But if God didn't command for its use in the New Testament would we then go against His word and offer up strange fire or worship? But they almost make it a point not to do it. I'm unfamiliar with this church. John 5:24
  12. My preacher just touched on this subject Sunday night I believe... I'll have to get out my notes. I'll have to get back to this when it's not so late! I've got to get in the bed! So g'night all and God bless!
  13. I would like to ask a few questions myself if no one minds. I know I'm a few months late from this topic but I hope others will see my response. I would ask that most of these questions be kept in the realm of the New Testament as one who is a Christian follows Christ and not the law of Moses. Where are we commanded to use musical instruments? Do we use instruments to make us feel good or are we doing it because that's what God wants? (One wouldn't want to offer up strange fire now would they?) For those who do not feel baptism is important, Christ Himself was baptized was He not? He had no sin. Aren't we to be Christ-like everyday so wouldn't one think that we are to do as Christ did? Why would there be verses that state one needs to be babtized for the remission of sins? If Christ said I am coming again to bring the faithful home why would He need to reign on earth for a thouasnd years? Why is there a verse that states it is appointed for man once to die and then after that the judgment? And for a bit of clarificattion the term pastor in the churches of Christ does not mean preacher or minister. The term 'pastor' is a title reserved for one who holds an elder position. Ephesians 4:11 gives us a clear distinction between the two: And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, I would go through more of the points in this thread but it was late when I happened upon this and I should retire for the evening. So good night to you all and God bless!
