  1. What must I do to go to Heaven? First I will summarize the answer. Then we'll look at several things that God says in the Bible. And then if you would like to become His child and have Heaven be your home, you can pray the prayer at the bottom of this page. Summary First you must recognize that you are a sinner and that the penalty of sin is death. You must recognize that you yourself can't make payment for your sins or earn Heaven. God only allows one way for your sins to be paid for and forgiven. The only way is through what His son Jesus Christ did on the Cross. You must accept Jesus into your heart both as Savior and also as Lord. Now I just mentioned two things. One is receiving Jesus as Savior. The other is receiving Jesus as Lord. Here is what I mean by those two things. Accepting Jesus into your heart as Savior means that you are putting your trust in Jesus' death on the Cross as payment for your sins. Accepting Jesus into your heart as Lord means that with God's help you will turn away from sin and grow in obedience to His will. What the Bible says Next lets look at some things that God says in the Bible. First, the Bible says that no one can earn Heaven by the works of the Law. Romans 3:20 20 because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes the knowledge of sin. Second the Bible says that we all have fallen short of God's requirements - Romans 3:10 and Romans 3:23 Romans 3:10 10as it is written, "THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS, NOT EVEN ONE; Romans 3:23 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, The first part of this next verse shows that the penalty for sin is death. Roman 6:23 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. But God provided us the only way to have eternal life. It is through Jesus Christ His son. John 3:16 16"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. And Jesus died to for our sins. 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, And one last passage from Romans 10:9-13 9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; 10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, "WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED." 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him; 13 for "WHOEVER WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED." Pray now and receive Jesus as Savior and Lord Pray this sincerely and you will become God's child and Heaven will be your home. God I know I am a sinner and the wages of my sin is death. I agree with the Bible that I can't earn Heaven. I believe that the only way to Heaven is through what your son Jesus did on the Cross. Jesus I invite you into my heart as Savior and Lord. Forgive all of my sins. Please help me to turn away from sin and grow in obedience to what the Bible teaches. Thank you for making me your child right now.   2. One source, but not the only source, of depression is anxiety. Proverbs 12:25 25 Anxiety in a man's heart weighs it down, But a good word makes it glad. Anxiety weighs down / depresses you. Since anxiety is one source of depression then preventing anxiety is one way to prevent depression. Peace can prevent you from being weighed down and getting depressed. Lets look at just two ways to sustain peace. 1. Obeying God brings peace. Psalm 119:165 165 Those who love Your law have great peace, And nothing causes them to stumble. 2. Prayer brings peace. Philippians 4:6-7 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.   5. Freed from the power of sin - But are you trapped in your mind? When anyone receives Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior God immediately does two things concerning sin. First, God forgives all of their sins. Second, God frees them from the power of sin. Today we will focus on the fact that God has freed us from the power of sin. Romans chapter six talks about this freedom more than once. Here is one verse from Romans 6:14 14 For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under law but under grace. We as believers, don't always comprehend that we are really free from the power of sin. But, instead our minds are still conditioned from past failure. Our mind still acts like we are slaves of sin when in reality we are free. To illustrate this point, and also a solution, I am going tell a short story. There was a dog who for 12 years had worn an electric collar in a yard with an electric fence. He learned repeatedly that he could not go past a fixed point in the yard. Each day when the mailman came he would angrily run up to just short of where his collar would shock him. He would tell the mailman what he really thought about him. But he always stayed back a few feet from where his collar activated. One day the owner put the dog out without his collar. Then the mailman came. But, the mailman didn't get bit. Why? The dog stopped at the boundary he thought was still there. He was actually free but didn't act on his freedom because he thought he was still limited by the same boundaries. Do we ever think like this dog in our Christian walk? Are we thinking that we are trapped when in reality we are free? We need to reprogram our mind to agree with the truth. We don't have a sin collar anymore. We are not stuck within sins boundaries. We are free. What we couldn't do before we came to Christ we can do now.   6. Thank you for your comment. It is true that what you think on is another thing that can influence your mental state either for better or for worse. I wanted to keep these writings short so I am spreading these thoughts over several devotions . God bless I've learned through scripture that depression comes from the way we think. Mainly prolonged negative thinking will destroy you. I'm off my anti-depressants because I've learned to practice the verse below. Praise God and His word.   7. Today I want to write briefly about growing in obedience as a direct result of having an enemy in our lives. There may be practical things we may need to do in order to protect ourselves from an enemy. Also we may need to make things right with that person if we have wronged them. But in addition to those things we also need to also concentrate on our obedience to the Lord so His hand will be against our foes. Lets look at Psalm 81:13-15 13
  8. When anxiety hits turn it into an opportunity to grow in two different areas of your Christian walk. With the proper mindset, anxiety can stimulate you to grow in obedience and in prayer. One solution to restoring peace is to increase your obedience. Lets look at that in Psalm 119:165 165 Those who love Your law have great peace,And nothing causes them to stumble.  In this Psalm there is a direct connection between obedience and great peace. Feeling anxious? Want to have peace restored. Then part of your plan should be to set your mind to obey God all the more. Obedience brings peace Another solution to restoring peace is choose to pray.   9. Holding on to anger can lead to depression. Genesis 4:5 5 but for Cain and for his offering He had no regard So Cain became very angry and his countenance fell. One source, but not the only source, of depression is an anger that is of the flesh and not of God. Notice the relationship between Cain being very angry and sadness / depression. Cain became very angry and his countenance fell. Are you holding on to the wrong kind of anger today? It can be a difficult thing to lay aside. Go to God in weakness and ask for His help. Then after prayer be dilligent to put the anger to death. One example may be a person that you need to forgive. The bitterness you store towards them sours you and can depress you. Forgive them.
