  1. Genesis 1:28

28 God blessed them; and God said to them, " Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth." NASU

Does Genesis 1:28 teach that as a married couple that you must have children? How about needing to have multiple children?

  2. I am taking a class in college about the Bible in History. The text is Understanding The Bible by Stephen L. Harris. I was wondering if anyone here knows anything about him? From the little I have looked at in the book, he seems to be a liberal unbeliever.

  3. BUTERO SAID,

There are Freewill Baptist Churches where they also believe in speaking in tongues and the gifts of the Spirit. I could just as easily say, Baptists are of the same tradition because a group that is one of their off shoots believes in tongues. Also, you could at some point have a minister start a new work, breaking away yet again from the Baptist Church. He could become a total heretic. How would you like to be lumped together with such a one, by former association? That is what you are trying to do to Pentecostals. So yes, there is a great misunderstanding on you part.

    HORIZONEAST,

    I think this

  4. Is it just me, or does it seem like freedom of speech is okay if someone is supporting liberal, athiest, or new age views? But when they are talking about conservitive, politically incorrect, Biblical, or moral views, they are often shut down and accused of pushing there views on others?

  5. 1 John 4:1

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world

Paul warned us against the deception which comes through demonic influence (1 Timothy 4:1).

John also cautioned us to test the spirits and to distinguish the spirit of truth from the spirit of error (1 John 4:1-6).

"Satan's demonic forces are at work attempting to pollute your mind with lies in order to keep you from walking in the truth. There are the voices of evil and deceiving spirits, who lie in wait to entrap every traveler entering these higher regions of spiritual life. . . . These spiritual enemies, whoever or whatever they may be, must necessarily communicate with us by means of our spiritual faculties (speaking in tongues), Due to the deceptive nature of his impressions, Satan's voice may not always be detected objectively. "

    God Bless

    TC

Are you saying that when I speak in tongues, I am talking to a devil or demon?

  6. I would recommend taking this matter to the pastor. I had a similar thing happen with a brother in my church. The amount was much smaller. I ended up just forgetting the matter and forgiving him. From his prospective, he did not need to be forgiven, but that is between him and the Lord. Today we are great friends.

  7. I have a hand. It has distinct characteristics, uses, and qualities that make it unique.

I have a head. It has distinct characteristics, uses, and qualities that make it unique.

I have a foot. It has distinct characteristics, uses, and qualities that make it unique.

I am my hand, my head, and my foot. I am one person.

    -Justin-

I think if you use that example, there would be five in the Trinity. Two hands, two feet and one head.

  8. I am amazed as I read through the different threads on the subject of the Trinity and Oneness at how many times people with a Oneness(Monotheism) view are labled and/or accused of being Jehovah Witness's. There are other denominations which embrace Oneness. One of which is the United Pentecostal Denomination. They also baptize in the Name of Jesus only and do not use the formula most Trinitarian denominations use; "Father, Son & Holy Ghost". And...............no..................they are not cultic. It grieves me that fellow Believers with different views assume if someone's view is other than a Trinitarian then they must be part of a cult. There by discrediting thier beliefs as false and "out-there" or just plain wierd. No matter how we view God as One or Three we are all of the same BODY if we are "Born of HIM". After all never have I read in the scriptures that we MUST see God as One or Three to be Born of Chirst. Let me end with this one question. With these limited brains we have, who really knows all there is to know about the Godhead. When all is done and we finally arrive before our Lord I think we will find that no one really understood all there was about Him. At last we will have the whole mind of Chirst which we only have in part now.

I am the exJehovahs Witness here and am a BornAgain Christian. What is it that I needed to know about Jesus to make HIm both LORD and Saviour that the Jws don't teach, that also the Oneness don't teach? How can we get tired of the truth?! It is the faith the apostles and early CHristians contended for and all since! JESUS IS LORD> People NEED to know this!

I am not saying that Oneness is exactly like Jws in every way and I did not say it meaning that in EVERY way they are the same. The similarity is the fact the aside from traditional CHristian teaching they are teaching a different doctrine that is founded on man, not GOD in CHRIST!

There is alot, TONSSS that makes the JWs cult. When I said it is exactly that, I was referring to the mentality of not looking to see what the truth the scriptures present, ot not distinguish Christian teaching adn mans teachings and to not see Christ for WHO HE is. NOT that they are the same in every way.

The totaltarian society of JWs is a hostile and abusive cult that destroys peoples lives in many, many ways.

The fact they set themselves up in a godlike position over their members, use mind controlling tecniques, in double speak, secret meanings to words and phrases, hidden images intheir literature, repeated phrases and wordsand deleteed words of the Bible, fear of family loss , no communication involved, and then the founders heresy that JESUS is not God . But, a god(like being) and to forbid to speak to Him, are many but only a few of the problems they have.

But, the Oneness is also in the catagory, and that is why you see it posted together, because they also are going against traditional Christianity as brought forth by the Apostles and JEsus HImself.

IF that makes you angry, imagine how people who are lied to about Who JEsus is feel when they find out others don't care enough to tell them the truth! or rock their boats for them!!

Because we are called to tell the Truth of the LORD JESUS to all the world and not to pad it down and be soft and fuzzy or we could forget the gospel entirely and have "a go feel good no wave making" gospel!

BE Holy Spirit filled and never tire of the Truth and the fight it brings; because JESUS IS LORD And all the world needs to know!(Including pseudo Christianity where ever it is not CHRISTianity! What good is churchiananity?!!

IF people had not cared enough to make waves, would I have known why it is so important to know JEUSS IS LORD?

If I love my own comfort zone more than I love JESUS and my friends to tell them of JESUS IS LORD.............

Praise GOD for those who rock the boats for the ROCK OF AGES!

    JESUS IS LORD

    elkie

I must say, as a Oneness Pentecostal, that I do believe that Jesus is Lord. I personally don't like to say to much on this subject because I get flooded with questions that I don't have the time to anwser. Also many people like to twist around what Oneness Pentecostals believe. But please do not think that for one second that I don't believe Jesus is Lord. Thank You.

  9. Jesus was a pot smoking hippie, wasn't God, and didn't really die, He just passed out....but I still believe in Him.....

SO am I still a part of the body. Absolutely not! So why is it someone who denies the nature of Jesus is a part of the body?

Apothanein Kerdos, you scared me for a minute. I started to read your post, and the first thing I thought was "this dosen't sound like her" from what I have read in your post. :emot-heartbeat: I should have known that you where trying to make a point. :emot-heartbeat:

  10. The worst and most amazing arguments heretics use to deny one of the most important theological truths conveyed in the Bible are:

    1. The Roman Catholic church believed in the Trinity so therefore it can't be right.

    2. The word Trinity does not appear in the Bible so therefore it can't be true doctrine.

Do those of you who deny the Trinity because of the RCC believe that the church was only invented in 1900? How absurd to be so anti-RCC that you are willing to completely throw out 2000 years of church history because you believe you are a better interpreter of the Bible than any church father prior to the Reformation and Luther, Calvin and others afterwards. How foolish can one be?

And those who deny the Trinity because the term itself does not appear in the Bible surely must be aware that the term "Bible" itself does not appear in the Bible. Does that also mean the Bible is invalid because it is not a biblical term?

Although the Reformation was much needed and has led to good things it is just as clear that many of the most biblically illiterate and untrained fundamentalists have removed themselves so far away from the realm of orthodoxy that in many cases they can no longer be considered as part of the Christian faith. Many have completely redefined God by returning to the old Arian heresy. I am sorry for my harshness but I have seen so much on this board from posters who have left sound doctrine behind yet who are extremely bold and arrogant in their misguided views.

What's even worse is they are pushing their heresy off on unsuspecting new believers who wander on here who don't know the difference. As Jesus said, they will travel land and sea to make a single convert and after they do they will be twice the child of hell.

    May God help us,

    SW

I understand how you feel. The Trinity has been a part of Christianity for a long time (too long if you ask me). It has nothing to do with the fact that the RCC is spewing out man-made dogmas left and right. Most people who are a part of that organization are probably very good Christian people. It also has nothing to do with the fact that the word trinity is not in the Bible.

We don't believe because of what the Bible says and the understanding of what the Bible says about Jesus.

I will be very simple with this because the Oneness is not some mystery like some would say of the trinity.

    1) Is God the Father a Spirit? Is God the Father Holy?

If you answer yes to these two questions which the Bible clearly state several times then wouldn't that make the Holy Spirit the Father or do we have two Holy Spirits. Do you ever notice that God the Father used "His" Holy Spirit to conceive the baby Jesus. Yet God the Father is the Father of Jesus. These are roles or functions of our one true God and not persons in a Godhead. I don't even feel the need to get into who Jesus Christ was because this right here proves that the Holy Spirit and the Father are one in the same.

Otherwise you have polytheism which is what I see alot of Trinitarians going towards in this forum. Seeing more than One in Heaven is Polytheism whether you admit it or not.

We are just trying to understand just like the rest out there. Something like the Trinity that has been held to be truth for so long is obviously going to be hard to deny but if we see that the Truth is something else, isn't that all we want is truth?

God is not a spirit. Though He is equated as such in the Bible, this is in reference to the Holy Spirit. God, being the head of the Trinity, is outside of our ontology. This means that He is neither physical or spirit bound...He simply exists outside of our realm of understanding. Jesus, however, is the physical person in the Trinity and the Holy Spirit is the spiritual person in the Trinity....different in form but "same" in ontology (though still above our metaphysical realm). Jesus is either part of a Trinity or not God at all. Jesus cannot simply be a manifestation of God; if this were the case then how could He die? God cannot die, yet Jesus did. It would make absolutely no sense.

It is impossible in a philosophical realm, and biblical, for Oneness to work.

    John 4:24

24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

    KJV
