  1. I watched the 700 Club once after the Creation vs Evolution debate.  Pat Robertson stated it was foolish for Christians not to believe in Evolution with all the evidence out there.  I guess he is what is called a Theistic Evolutionist.  He believes God's hand is in the evolutionary process.  Go figure...

  2. Adam did not die physically the day he ate of the fruit, but he did die spiritually.

Thus just by going by the words of Gen, the death that Adam brought was the spiritual separation from God.

That interpretation certainly would not bring cohesion with the rest of scripture in regards to sin and death.

III. THE THREATENED PENALTIES OF DISOBEDIENCE. Where you may first notice the terms of the sentence, in respect to time. “In the day that thou eatest thereof, thou shalt surely die.” Some persons see a difficulty in this passage, because the sentence of death was not executed upon the day of transgression; but this arises from overlooking the exact import of the Hebrew words used, which would fairly admit of being rendered as referring not to the actual infliction of death, so much as subjecting man to the liability to die. It imports, that he should from that moment become mortal, that there should be the beginnings and seeds of dissolution incorporated with his very being, from the time he tasted of that tree. This rendering will receive some elucidation, if you look at the marginal rendering which is proposed. You will observe, it is there said, “dying, thou shalt die.” Now, this is a common Hebraism for some continuous and gradually accomplished act. And therefore the import of the words is, that from the moment this tree was tasted, there should be the beginnings of a death which should reach to all his posterity. The same continuousness of action applies to a former part of the verse; for there too, you observe, the same marginal reference is given. It is said, “eating, thou shalt eat,” just as here it is said, “dying, thou shalt die”; and therefore the two expressions may be interpreted alike—the one as saying, “Eating, thou shalt eat,” or, “This tree shall be for thy perpetual life,” the other as saying, “Dying, thou shalt die,” or, “The taste of this tree shall be for thy perpetual death.”   (Source: The Biblical Illustrator)

  3. How about 'death' = spirit separation here? It's clear from the Genesis account that Adam and Eve did not immediately die after partaking of the forbidden fruit, so a non physical death sentence has to be assumed.

No, I don't see Adam and Eve walking around.  I think you can rest assured they physically died.  I also don't think death = spirit separation.  I think death = eternal judgement.

  4. No, that does not follow. Just because God would create us via evolution rather than some other method has nothing to do with goals, intentions or purpose.

Ah, but it does because you have death as a creative process to produce evolutionary man.  The bible says that death resulted because of sin entering into the world through mans disobedience.  So you have man fully created then death entering into the world.

  5. Info, I implore you to not distribute those DVDs to high school students. I watched the full video online, there is nothing of substance in it.

Oh, its going to happen and if all goes well there are 5 other high schools close by that will be next; some public, some private.  If you want a film with more substance in in then there is one on the way that is geared towards apologetics.  Evolution vs God focus is evangelistic.

    Genesis Movie

This should help demonstrate to people that there are diversity of opinions about this matter, even on a relatively conservative type Christian forum.

Is theistic evolution really an option for Christians?  I think not.  You have to rewrite the whole purpose of God and man to support it.

An entire universe … wasted on us?
  6. I'm not sure what Mr Comfort hopes to achieve with this movie.

I talked to my Pastor and Elders and they are on board to distribute 1,000 copies to our local high school.  Now all we need to do is get a meeting together with all the volunteers.  Maybe even get a gorilla too.  Lol

    Evolution vs God School Giveaway

Believe what you want about evolution, but if you truly believe Ray Comfort has accomplished something of that magnitude in a short video, well...... :crosseyed:

Perhaps they were actually able to provide proof and Ray cut that out.  Lol

  7. What really disappoints me among those who buy into Comfort's game is how he convinces them that he's actually "disproved evolution".

The purpose of this movie was not to try to disprove evolution.  That would take far too long and get into areas Ray even admits he is not qualified enough to debate.  The purpose of the movie was to show 1) that people who believe in evolution do so with a certain amount of FAITH and 2) to present the gospel message.  Ray is not an apologist he is an evangelist.

  8. We have legal separation here in California which is basically the same thing as divorce. I am sure when I serve her with those papers she will counter me with divorce papers. She has already said she just want to be free and wants to be divorced if we separate. If not my pastor assures me since she is not a christian that she will get a boyfriend in short order and I can have my divorce on adultery grounds.

  9. Hi, yes me and my wife are still living together. I have actually talked to her honestly and openly about this situation. She was hurt and angry at me at first but now is more forgiving and understanding about it. She doesn't want me to have anything to do with her and I can understand that.

Yeah, I don't think talking about it with your wife was the smart thing to do. I think seeking the wise council of men at your church would have been the better avenue. Why should you put your wife through all that mental turmoil because of your sexual fantasies? Now she is going to have to juggle being concerned about your job, your finances, and her marriage. You really did that to her? You couldn't have taken care of this situation with the men and elders at your church?

  10. I have been celabate in Faith and do not wish to re-marry again as it is a sin for any man to marry a divorced woman! I will follow my council of the bible and nothing will ever change my mind......God's breathed words.....Amen

Now that is how I read it too. Its not that a Christian can't get divorced for any reason but that they can't get remarried if the spouse didn't commit adultery or abandonment. The penalty outside of these reasons is a life of celibacy until the other spouse dies.

  11. Nope, enough is enough. Things are not going to get better no matter how much I want and pray. I think God gives us wisdom for a reason and it is quite apparent that things are heading in the wrong direction radically. God never promises that marriages are all going to work out. As a matter of fact the Bible states that some will leave and to let them go. Unfortunately for me she has decided to stay and I can't get rid of her no matter how many times I tell to just go. She feels she can do whatever she wants and her divorce lawyer told her that I can't kick her out of the house. So guess what? I can only assume she is in the process of cleaning out all of her accounts so those aren't available for mutual property dissolution. The writing is on the wall it just a matter of this point if I want to wait and see myself get dug into a big hole or take action and cut my loses as they sit now. She has totally stopped working so she can maximize the spousal support benefits. This is why she is cleaning out the accounts to support herself and gain the time she needs to say that I was the total support. She got wise advice and she is using it. I can wait and become a victim of I can do something about it. I feel now is the time to act!

  12. This is the last straw! I went to do my taxes with her today and then a bombshell was laid out on me. She had taken out $40,000 from her 401K and told them not to deduct any taxes either. Which in California, she isn't allowed to do without my consent. Spent all the money on herself. Nothing for me and the kids and then hit me with a huge tax bill. Now instead of looking at a $3000 tax bill I am looking at a $13,000 tax bill coming up in a few weeks! Surprise...surprise. And to show her disgust with all things religious...her parting shot is "consider it a donation too." This being a reference to my church donation.

  13. I don't want to ask them for the financial report because I know that it wouldn't be taken very well. Like I said I just opened my eyes and noticed that it is run like a family business. Calling financial stewardship into question would definitely stir up the hornets nest. They are not open about their finances. I have started to noticed the church centric focus and the discouragement and chastising of members who stray into activities outside the church. Last week he preached about people attending multiple churches and how they are wrong and need to stay where they are in one church where the church can take care of them and the Pastor can be their Sheppard. They need to show loyalty to the church by not venturing outside to other Christian activities.

Then there is the prosperity gospel that gets preached each Sunday just before the offering is taken where God wants to bless you abundantly but first you need to show faith and give to him first so he can give back to you 100 fold. It just seems to be leading to a business model. I would like to have some hard figures and not just a hunch based on circumstantial evidence. I was hoping I could get it through the IRS by just requesting it and then they wouldn't have to know about it and get offended.

  14. I am now beginning to question whether the church I now attend is actually being run as a family business or for the advancement of the Kingdom. I would like to see the required financial report on salaries and expenses that all 401c are required to file. I have been told that this information must be provided to anyone who requests it. How do I go about obtaining this information without stirring up the hornets nest?

  15. Trying to learn programming now myself. Bought a program called LiveCode that is a scripting language. They are supposed to be a lot easier to learn. Well since not much is written for it its not that easy to learn so I picked up a book called the Programming for the Absolute Beginner. It uses a free program called Just Basic. Downloaded it and low and behold Just Basic has its own tutorial too. Have some old books on gbasic and thinking of going through those before hitting LiveCode (formerly HyperCard) or RealStudio (formerly RealBasic). Both of these are visual rapid development tools.

  16. Sounds like you found you Sunday spot! A lot of churches offer mid-week bible studies. It used to be on Wednesdays but I find now that no longer is the case. I have 3 churches that I go to and they all have their mid week services on different days. I'd stick with the church your in right now and get more comfortable with it. I would also suggest you start attending mid-week services at some of the other churches and see how you like them.

  17. I think the Lord would have up stand up and protest these people just like they do us. They have gatherings and marches. We should do the same. Call it like it is and it is pushing sexual divalent behavior down our throats and worst yet down our children's throats. What should we do? WWJD

    Mark 11:15 (New International Version)

On reaching Jerusalem, Jesus entered the temple area and began driving out those who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves, 16and would not allow anyone to carry merchandise through the temple courts.
