The Problem With Evolution Part 2- Animals
The Barbarian replied to Starise's topic in Science and Faith
A mutation is merely a change in the genome of an organism. A mutation is a permanent, heritable change in the nucleotide sequence or the process by which such a change occurs in a gene or in a chromosome. https://www.biologyonline.com/dictionary/mutation As you suggest, recombinations can be complicated, and not all of them are truly mutations. Genetic recombination (also known as genetic reshuffling) is the exchange of genetic material between different organisms which leads to production of offspring with combinations of traits that differ from those found in either parent. In eukaryotes, genetic recombination during meiosis can lead to a novel set of genetic information that can be further passed on from parents to offspring. Most recombination occurs naturally and can be classified into two types: (1) interchromosomal recombination, occurring through independent assortment of alleles whose loci are on different but homologous chromosomes (random orientation of pairs of homologous chromosomes in meiosis I); & (2) intrachromosomal recombination, occurring through crossing over.[1] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genetic_recombination So a crossover mutation in a chromosome is a true mutation, while recombination that involves chromosomes or alleles already present in a population would not be considered a mutation. Evolution, being a change in allele frequency in a population could, in principle, take place without any mutations at all. the ratio of specific alleles can change either by natural selection or just by the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium without any mutations having taken place. Given that most animals have dozens of mutations that were not present in either parent, that is highly unlikely, however. -

Genetic evidence indicates the last common ancestor of hummingbirds and humans was about 319 million years ago. https://timetree.org/ Fossil evidence indicates that divergence of synapsids (mammals and mammal-like reptiles) from diapsids (other reptiles including dinosaurs/birds) is between 306 and 332 million years ago. https://www.researchgate.net/figure/Phylogeny-of-Synapsida-Diapsida-with-divergence-time-constrained-by-minimum-age-and_fig2_8229491 So the evidence from diverse sources is consistent. -

This is the real deal-breaker for YE creationism as far as most Christians are concerned. Their doctrines make God appear to be deceptive. And God being truth, that is not possible. -

I can see that it's used something like "desolation" in Jeremiah. I think it's significant that Jerimiah 4:31 suggests that something new and alive might come of all that devastation: Jeremiah 4:31 For I have heard the voice as of a woman in travail, anguishes as of a woman in labor of a child. The voice of the daughter of Sion, dying away, spreading her hands: Woe is me, for my soul hath fainted because of them that are slain. -

First thing you need to do is realize that you aren't God, and your opinions aren't the Bible. When you're ready to accept creation, the flood and the fall God's way instead of the way you want it, you'll be troubled no longer. -

If you're willing to admit that much, why not just accept everything His way? -

James 2:17 So faith also, if it have not works, is dead in itself 18 But some man will say: Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without works; and I will shew thee, by works, my faith. My faith in God requires me to do the will of the Father. How about yours? (no answer to my question) Maybe you should reflect on why you can't answer. -

Certainly means nothing solid. Given the Mesopotamian idea of waters as chaotic and unformed, it makes sense to begin with these words. -

If you actually have, your works will verify it. Because faith without works is dead. Jesus, in Matthew 25, says that your works will determine whether you spend eternity with Him or with the Devil. He says, in Revelations, that you will be judged according to your works. I think He means it. James 2:17 So faith also, if it have not works, is dead in itself 18 But some man will say: Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without works; and I will shew thee, by works, my faith. My faith in God requires me to do the will of the Father. How about yours? -

Yes. James 2:17 So faith also, if it have not works, is dead in itself 18 But some man will say: Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without works; and I will shew thee, by works, my faith. 19 Thou believest that there is one God. Thou dost well: the devils also believe and tremble. 20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, offering up Isaac his son upon the altar? 22 Seest thou, that faith did co-operate with his works; and by works faith was made perfect? 23 And the scripture was fulfilled, saying: Abraham believed God, and it was reputed to him to justice, and he was called the friend of God. 24 Do you see that by works a man is justified; and not by faith only? -

A scientist would say that a gas has no fixed volume or form, a liquid has a volume but no fixed form, and a solid has a fixed volume and form. -

I can believe you or I can believe Jesus You lose. One of these days you will figure out that the Bible does not contradict itself, and one is justified by works as well as by faith. And that will be a great day for you. What you don't get now, is that salvation is always a gift of God, not something you earn. And what you won't accept is that one is justified by faith and by works. And God says that you will be judged according to your works. You best believe Him. -

Matthew 7:21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’ James 2:17 So faith also, if it have not works, is dead in itself. 18 But some man will say: Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without works; and I will shew thee, by works, my faith. 19 Thou believest that there is one God. James 2:24 Do you see that by works a man is justified; and not by faith only? It didn't change the Gospels. Sorry about that. The Gospels are exactly what the crucifixion was about. You're confusing works with "earning salvation." God is not wrong when He tells you that you will be judged by your works, and your works will determine if you spend eternity with the devil or with Him. -

Salvation hinges on accepting the Gift of Salvation, as stated in Romans. (ESV) Romans 10:9-10 9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. James 2:24 Do you see that by works a man is justified; and not by faith only? -

Collins is an interesting case; a nonbeliever, who came to God by learning about His creation. The language of God is order. When even chaos turns out to have intrinsic order, that reflects His eternal power and Godhead. -
The Problem With Evolution Part 2- Animals

It does. Romans 1:20 explains that creation itself tells us about the majesty and wisdom of God. But that's not what our salvation hinges on. It's so simple and yet so hard for us to do. -
You're starting to get upset and repeating the same old debunked stories, with a few insults inserted. Take a little time to collect yourself and cool off.
-
You merely continue to confuse your interpretation of scripture with God's word. As you know, there can be no mornings and evenings without a sun, and so until the third day, there could have been no literal 24 hour days. That's what God is showing us. You know you're just denying something that is in scripture. Your complaint is not with me; take it up with the Author. And showing me that someone else also denies what God said, doesn't help your cause. And your excuse has been debunked repeatedly. If "big light in the sky" is morning, then moonrise would be morning. It's hard to take you seriously, you repeat the same old excuses, every time you're reminded of your denial of scripture. Why not just let it be, the way God told you?

You're not Moses. You're just someone who has confused his own wishes with God's word. But there's a great deal different in your interpretation of scripture. There's really no point. Everyone sees that when your argument fails, you resort to the same old accusations. God Himself made clear in Genesis that the days were not literal 24 hour ones. YOU may think He’s lying, but Christians believe Him.

For those who think the Bible is more about the ages of rocks than about the Rock of Ages, the point of scripture seems different than it does to the rest of Christendom. -
It is insulting to Him to suggest that God would fake evidence of great age. If you have to impute dishonesty to God to make your new doctrines work, isn't that a tip-off for you?

Evolution is not a theory in crisis. It is not teetering on the verge of collapse. It has not failed as a scientific explanation. There is evidence for evolution, gobs and gobs of it. It is not just speculation or a faith choice or an assumption or a religion. It is a productive framework for lots of biological research, and it has amazing explanatory power. There is no conspiracy to hide the truth about the failure of evolution. There has really been no failure of evolution as a scientific theory. It works, and it works well. YE creationist Dr. Todd Wood Evolutionary theory IS highly successful in driving weak Christians and non believers away from the Bible. Well, let's take a look... But eventually, by 1994 I was through with young-earth creationISM. Nothing that young-earth creationists had taught me about geology turned out to be true. I took a poll of my ICR graduate friends who have worked in the oil industry. I asked them one question. “From your oil industry experience, did any fact that you were taught at ICR, which challenged current geological thinking, turn out in the long run to be true?” That is a very simple question. One man, Steve Robertson, who worked for Shell grew real silent on the phone, sighed and softly said ‘No!’ A very close friend that I had hired at Arco, after hearing the question, exclaimed, “Wait a minute. There has to be one!” But he could not name one. I can not name one. No one else could either. One man I could not reach, to ask that question, had a crisis of faith about two years after coming into the oil industry. I do not know what his spiritual state is now, but he was in bad shape the last time I talked to him. And being through with creationism, I very nearly became through with Christianity. I was on the very verge of becoming an atheist. Former YE creationist Glenn Morton. One of the major issues with YE creationism is that it's a very effective atheist-maker. You're so tied you your new doctrines that you've decided that your word is God's word. So you accuse anyone who disagrees with you, of "calling God a liar." Do you not see that what you are doing is blasphemous in itself?
-
It's a matter of doing the will of the Father. Why do you always have to edit what He says? Why won't you just accept it His way? You're not exactly calling Him a liar; you're just changing His word a bit. Why do you insist that you are a follower of God when you change His word with every post? But you constantly revise what He says, to make it fit your way. But you constantly revise His word to make it fit the way you want. See above. Set your pride aside and just let it be His way.
