This scripture has nothing to do with esteeming pagan days.

It is important to carefully read every part of this scripture, and here Paul was dealing with people who were keeping God's old testament holy days.

And Paul dealt with this issue many times.

If one wants to keep a day that can be pleasing to God, for God established his holy days, than that is fine as long as they do not push it on others, for Colossians shows that they are no longer obligatory.

A lot of people pounced on that verse. It is more pertinent to those that argue that we should not have special days at all. Is there anything blatantly pagan about Christmas if it lacks all the worldly customs?

Yes, that is true.  but sadly they sure include covetousness and greed.     And that is a mock to the very one As they do it to honor Him.   Yeah.  let us ponder that for a second.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JESUS as they greedily covet things .     My advice is we should celebrate it like this.

All about Christ,    give gifts to those who can not give you back.    Call the poor and have a meal and tell of the gospel of Christ .    And keep it that simple.  no need for trees

and pagan things.  Pagan traditions DONT HONOR CHRIST ..............they DISHONOR HIM.  so just keep it pure amen.

This is true. I never get straight answers to this question because people point to those who call themselves Christians that practice the worldly aspects of the season. You have people (not many) that do not give gifts, decorate, erect trees, or any of that stuff.  However, they like to sing the hymns about Christ's birth, read the story of Jesus, and go sing for the old and sick. They have recognized the day, but do not engage in any of the things that people are condemning. Do I tell this person to stop because Christmas has pagan roots?

"One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind." -Romans 14:5

Never anymore will you see a TV program about Jesus in regards to Christmas.  Instead they are all about the magic of Satan, opps Santa.

    Well, there is this . . .

Good gravy, this is the earliest "celebrating Christmas is satanic" thread I've ever seen on Worthy. Must be a new record. :D

And yes, just for the record my family loves celebrating Jesus' birth. Always have, always will!

    No, its the latest!

I never heard of anyone worshipping santa or praying or giving thanks to him

Yes, that was a bit over-the-top.  Many people that celebrate Christmas do not include Santa Claus in their traditions.

  6. I once attended a church that chose not to celebrate Christmas due to the pagan roots of the tradition.  So I am well-versed in how Christmas festivities have pagan roots and the scriptures that tell us to put away such things.  However, I know sincere Christians that do practice Christmas.  Do you believe it is wrong for Christians to celebrate Christmas?  Does the dynamic change if Christmas is kept Christ-centric?

Staying at home wasn't the issue but getting a job so they could support a wife on their own was because the mother disliked his girlfriend. Also a little humor would help.

At no point in that post did he say that he does not work a job.  I do agree with one aspect of what you said though.  If he worked on being independent, not only would he be better prepared for marriage but who he marries would be his decision.  However, I sense that he desires his parent's blessing.

How do you view autism? Do you know anyone who is autistic?

    God bless,
    GE

These are 12 of my own observations 1. in my life (as a person with mild to moderate Autism Spectrum Disorder or Aspergers), 2. in my family (my son has the same diagnosis and my wife is Mild ASD), and 3. in the lives of those I know (family and friends on the spectrum).

    1. Empathy
    • Have trouble understanding other people’s feelings or talking about their own feelings. OR may be an empath taking on the burdens and trials of others.

    2. Non-verbal Communication
    • Have a hard time understanding body language (or social queues).

    3. Eye Contact
    • Avoid or have a hard time with eye contact.

    4. Socialization
    • Want to be alone; or want to interact with others but may not be sure how to do so.
    • Have a hard time making {close} friends. In some cases may have plenty or very few acquaintances though.
    • Have a hard time (nervousness or anxiety) in social settings.

    5. Interests
    • Have narrow, sometimes obsessive interests. In autistic circles these can be called special interests or hobbies.

    6. Self Focus
    • Talk about themselves or their interests (sometimes for long periods of time and expect others to be interested in those too)

    7. Speech
    • Speak in unusual ways or with an odd tone of voice.
    • May have delayed speech and use sounds/signs instead of words to communicate.

    8. Body Control
    • May be clumsy or awkward.
    • May have odd or repetitive movements.
    • May have a hard time controlling urination or bowel movements.

    9. Routine
    • Have a need for a very fixed routine.

    10. Sensory Challenges
    • Can have extreme reactions to one or more senses including lighting, sound, touch, taste, and smell. This can lead to headaches, sensory overload, melt downs, etc.

    11. Strengths and Weaknesses
    • Many people with autism are exceedingly strong in certain areas (math, science, computers, etc) and weak in others (communication, social graces, etc).

    12. Brain Information Overload
    • Similar to sensory challenges only has to do with too much information for the autistic brain to handle. With too much to juggle at once the brain short circuits and the person has a hard time concentrating, speaking clearly, or thinking clearly.

I feel like 90% or more of that is my life story, but I have never been diagnosed with anything.

Seems some didn't like my reply...

Ok, stay at home, live off your parents, don't marry, stay single, be non gender.

If you are invalid and have to stay at home have your wife move in. :)

Now that this thread is open to commoners, I will say my piece.  You belittled this man for living with his parents.  You assumed he did not work a job.  You assumed he had no plan to move out before getting married.  Finally, you did not address his concern.  Your response was unkind and lacked grace.

Hi there, I just want to grow up and be responsible. Although I am 37 in my mind I still am not so mature like other women. I am childish and not still settled in life. I feel so lonely because my parents are unhappy and ashamed that I am still single at home. I want to read the Bible and be enthusiastic but I get easily discouraged and I want to die.

I am not far behind you and I’m not married. Mostly due to social anxiety, missed opportunities, and investing several years in an unrealistic relationship. I still live with  my parents, but it is not like the stereotype. We have mutual agreements, I help them out, I work a job, and I do not cause them drama. However, your situation appears to be causing strife with your parents. I would pray that God opens the door for you to live independently which would likely help you gain the maturity that you desire.
