  1. Sometimes a scripture might appear to say one thing...but if we look closely we will see that it says something totally different. Budman, you must understand that the Bible cannot contradict itself. Paul isn't going to say something in one chapter...and then something totally opposite in another chapter. The Bible will prove to agree with itself. Notice what Paul says in 2 Timothy 4:7-8 : " I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course , I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day : and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing . Paul understood the fact that he will not see Christ until the 2nd coming. So when Paul says in Philippians 1:23, that he desires to depart and to be with Christ...he wasn't changing his doctrinal stance on the state of the dead...he was simply stating that he had a strong desire to labour for God's people, but an even stronger desire to go to heaven and live with Christ.
  2. His_Servant, I think you ask a great question. I believe in the trinity doctrine. And it takes courage to tell people that you don't understand this. Alot of us Christians don't really understand this, but this is just because we are so limited as humans. I would 1st tell you that these questions require prayer and guidance from God. But everything that is essential to salvation is in God's Word. Continue to study and pray. Here is how I belive the Bible explains the trinity: In 1John 5:7 it says - "For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one ." They are one. I simply believe this...there are 3 literal individuals. This is not 3 God's where like the heathen...one god is over the ocean, once god is over the sky. No. They are one in purpose, and one in power. When we pray...we don't have to say seperate prayers for Jesus or for The Father. When you pray to Jesus...you are also praying to the Father. The trinity, to me, can best be describe in marriage: "Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh ." Geneisis 2:24 There 2 individuals in a marriage, but God says that they are one. In my opinion this is one of the best ways for us to understand the trinity. Continue to pray and study and God will give that which you need for your salvation. Love, SDA
  3. Of course the Jews overdid the Sabbath, but why would I have to believe all these penalties? That has nothing to do with the meaning of the Sabbath. In the same token...I also believe that Adultery is wrong. How come you didn't quote the old testament scripture that says - "And the man that committeth adultery with another man's wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbor's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death ." Leviticus 20:10 The penalty for sin has changed. But what constitues SIN has not changed. P.S. Maybe I gave the impression that I am a follower of another human being, if this is the case, I want to convey to you that I am trying to be a follower of Jesus Christ.
  4. Yes, Moses and Elijah appeared to Jesus with some of the disciples. In taking into consideration what the Bible teaches on the state of the dead, one would have to believe that Both Moses and Elijah were either (1) raised from the dead, or (2) they never died. This is true for both of the prophets. Moses was raised from the dead. Jude 9
  5. Abraham witnessed Christ's first coming just as Paul witnessed the 2nd coming. "For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first." 1Thessalonians 4:16 Abraham saw the coming of Christ through the scriptures and rejoiced...just as we can see the 2nd coming of Christ and rejoice.
  6. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Response: I belive the rich man and Lazarus is a parable told by Jesus. 1. In the parable...Abraham acknowledges that he knows rich man. But scriptures says that Abraham does not acknowledge the children of Israel - "Doubtless thou art our father, though Abraham be ignorant of us, and Israel acknowledge us not..." Isaiah 63:16 2. In the parable, the dead rich man talked to Abraham. But scripture says - "The dead praise not the LORD, neither any that go down into silence." Psalms 115:17 3. In the parable, Abraham knew the living still wouldn't repent. But scripture says - "For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing..." Ecclesiastes 9:5 This parable likens those that are Biblically rich in knowledge and ability (rich man), with those in the world who don't know much about Christ (beggar). We are like that rich man who doesn't want to share Christ with those that are starving to hear His word. If we don't follow Christ we can end up just like the rich man. It's a great lesson by God, but not for doctrinal standings.
  7. Romans 14 is an excellent chapter that teaches us not to judge each other, but I wouldn't use this chapter as proof for or against the Sabbath commandment. The key to this is found in verse 5 - "...Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind." Anything that has do with salvation cannot be persuaded in our own minds. If Christ's death on the cross has done away with the Sabbath, this wouldn't be something that is persuaded in our own minds...the scriptures would be all the persuasion that we need. In my opinion, whatever issue (which the Bible doesn't bring out) that was going on in the church...it would seem that the church made up rules for everyone to follow, but these rules had nothing to do with salvation. Paul said - Hey we can't jugde a man for that. I agree.
  8. Hello everyone. I hear alot of us saying that we should worship God everyday. I don't think that is debatable...of course we should worship God everyday. This isn
  9. With the exception of a few individuals in the Bible, I believe that people don't go to heaven or hell immediately after death. The Bible says "Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day...."For David is not ascended into the heavens." Acts 2:29,34 We sleep in the ground until Jesus comes again.
  10. From my understanding of God's Word. Everyone sleeps until the resurrection. And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation. John 5:29
  11. Jesus said, "If you love me, keep my commandments." (John 14:15). Keeping the Sabbath doesn't mean that you are a legalists. For a legalists will keep the law in order to be saved...not realizing that a Christan keeps the law because he is saved.
  12. I believe that the Sabbath is on the 7th Day of the week...which is called Saturday. Prayer can change alot of things, but I don't think it would change the day of judgement.
