The Fall Back
John:21.3
Simon Peter said to them, "I am going fishing." They said to him, "We are going with you also." They went out and immediately got into the boat, and that night they caught nothing.
There is nothing as frustrating as falling back, falling back into old habits that you want to over come, falling back into the same temptations, falling back into what you are fighting to get out. Sometimes fall back is unavoidable during growth.
In this verse Jesus had died, resurrection Sunday had passed by, Easter Monday passed by..and it was now days and the disciples didn't know what next. They didn't know what life would be without Jesus. Jesus was the man. He walked on water, calmed their storms, turned for them water into wine, multiplied bread, healed those that were sick among them. Life without Jesus seemed hard for them hence the temptation to fall back.
It is funny the things we go back to do when we nolonger have someone to be accountable to us. Its funny the things we do, when the ones we relied on are gone. I can't forget when Mama passed on and breakfast ceased at home, I wondered how long it would be till we had milk for breakfast as usual.
Peter is naturally a leader, and his choices affect the rest in the group. You may not know it, but you might have people that look up to you, they do what they do because they see you do it. That is why you must watch what you do and say to those in your circles.
The profundity of this text is the fact that, even in the fall back. Jesus still appears to his disciples. Because of his endless love for you and me, he is always in the bussines of pulling us back from our valleys - the fall backs. I know its resurrection, but I feel like its hell breaking loose on me, Yes...even if that is the feeling; Jesus says I have come...and I just want to know one thing... "Do you love me Simon Peter
Do you really love me? Do you?" Not only do I want you to feed my flock, but also tend them.
Nevertheless, most importantly, However, FOLLOW ME!
That is the unending hope and the grace of God, for people like me. Who are weak but yet strong in Him. I know I am a Simon Peter and its my prayer that all of us that identify with Simon shall be transformed into the Solid Rock
