  1. Perhaps a better translation is this ~

"For many are invited, but few are chosen." Matthew 22:14 NIV

"If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink." John 7:37.

"And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me." John 12:32.

Putting those three verses together, brings us to the conclusion that the death of Jesus drew ALL MEN to Him...and ANY & ALL people who are thirsty (realize their need of Jesus) are INVITED to come to the wedding...but when it comes right down to it, there will be FEW who CHOOSE to do so.

  2. I LOVE counting my blessings, especially on Friday night and Sabbath as I rethink over the past week, all that the Lord has done for me.

This week was a very busy week...it's taken us several months, but we finally got our new wood stove put in this week...we live in OHIO and it gets pretty cold here in the winter, and our last stove was not very efficient.  We were doing good, some days in the Winter, to get it up to 60 in our living room...at really cold times, the living room would be in the 40's and our bedroom in the 20's!  But we didn't freeze....we have very good sleeping bags :).  But now, we are looking forward to a COZY winter :)

  3. This was a very refreshing article to read....I'm blessed to have a wonderful Christian husband....we've been married almost 41 years....but I know many women who are suffering greatly in horrible marriages and their church does NOTHING to help them.  If you happen to be in that situation ~ I'd recommend checking out this support group ~

Like some people, some soil take years before the "seed" is fruitful.
Years back we grew watermelons, Black Diamonds, which sold for a penny a pound.
We moved crops around and seems we always had a volunteer crop show up late season.
Even several years later, without planting, melons that were mostly smaller and sweeter graced our field.
Unplanted Seed from unpicked fruit still germinates without man's interference.
God's word will not return void.....

Many odd things are happening.  I live in the high desert and on my second week of 25 degree cooler days than average for Summer/August plus we've been getting rainy nights.    It's like a completely new weather pattern just settled in.   I am not complaining and Praising God.   But it does strike me odd and should i be looking at this from a Biblical perspective.

Yes, many "odd things" are happening...NATURE is confused, too!

Because it is a personal question.

Already the unvaxxed are beginning to be discriminated against and pressured. What's next, requiring the unvaxxed to sew a star on their clothes?

That may be the next step...and I'll PROUDLY wear my STAR!

  8. This year, I didn't plant anything in my garden area, I try to give it a rest every 7 years. So the only things growing there are what I call VOLUNTEERS. This plant is HUGE, I'll have to take another picture of how big it is...but it's probably at least 20 feet! and there are at least 20 of these fruits on it. Some are shipped like pumpkins, like this one and others are shaped like butternut squash....but they are all this color. I didn't even plant any squash or pumpkin in the garden at all last year, so am not sure how this got here.:) It's a beauty! I sure hope it tastes as good as it looks!

  9. Oh! For more Elisha's today! The youth of today have gotten so out of hand and show little respect for those in authority, be they those in spiritual authority or really any other authority.  That ONE instance, when Elijah cursed them for disrespecting him, and God sent bears in to teach them a lesson, served to cause them to respect him the rest of his life. You read of no more stories where Elijah was made fun of.

2Ki 2:23  And he went up from thence unto Bethel: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head.

2Ki 2:24  And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the LORD. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.

  10. Heb 11:33  Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,

Heb 11:34  Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.

I love this chapter...it's one verse after another, one Patriarch after another, that shows us that TRUE FAITH is not just an INTELLECTUAL belief.  TRUE FAITH translates into righteous acts, obedience and LIVING FAITH. That is the kind of FAITH that will carry us through the hard days coming to faithful Christians.

Your question is a Straw Man. None of the 10 are thrown out. Nobody thinks that way.

The Sabbath goes back to Genesis and was included in the 10 because of its importance to God's redemptive Plan. It is unique to the other 9. As has been stated, the Sabbath is a type of and points to what it truly represents--the finality of that REST as/is found 'In Christ'. The TRUE rest of ceasing from our own works in terms of satisfying the Righteous requirement of our Almighty God---accomplished by our God and Savior Jesus Christ--for us--so that we can enter that REST.

Keeping the sabbath as a particular day is a 'form of Godliness'--not the reality OF IT.

It's not a STRONG MAN argument at all.  When God wrote something with His own finger and put it in STONE and tells us to REMEMBER it, I think when we say that it's not necessary to obey Him...well, it is putting OUR understanding above His.

But, I realize many are finding this an uncomfortable discussion. It's not up to me to convince anyone...that is the Holy Spirit's job...so for now, I'm going to back out of this discussion.

Forgive me for coming to the party late but who threw out the Fourth Commandment?

When we say it's not necessary to obey the 4th Commandment, to me, that is the same as throwing it out. No?

Had to revisit this because its been on my mind lately.

I've noticed in the vast majority of discussions like this that at some point the implication arises that one person loves the Lord more than another who doesn't choose to practice whatever the discussion subject is. That is not a personal attack, by the way. It's an observation based on experience in the real world - just like at my former church.

Another version of the argument goes something like this:

"Well, you can't be a real Christian if you do/don't (fill in the blank.)

I've heard that one too in on some other discussions. This is something we usually call manipulation, and it doesn't work very well to change anyone's mind.

Walla299, I am not the one that said, "If ye love Me, keep My Commandments."  That is a THERMOMETER that the Lord has given us, whereby we can TEST our own souls, and see if we truly love Him.  If you have a problem with that, your problem is with HIM, not me :).

And you have done so and people have and will choose what to do with this.

Its a very old subject and this is not the first thread on it.

You are SDA, so folks get it. We are giving you some latitude, don't abuse it.

I don't care what day folks observe or not observe--that is irrelavant.

What is beneath this discussion and what drives it---and always does in my 46 some years as a believer--is the lack of apprehension of the principle of law opposed to the principle of the Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus. We, who have been set free, have the law written on our hearts and the Holy Spirit withing to guide us.

Ample scriptures have been posted regarding this and have been ignored.

ALIVE, I've asked multiple times and NOT ONE has given me an answer. Should I assume that by throwing out the 4th Commandment, you also throw out the other 9?  If not, where is your justification that you can choose which ones you obey and which ones you don't, especially when GOD Himself wrote them, and wrote them in STONE (signifying that they will NEVER CHANGE) and on top of that told us to REMEMBER the very one most of Christendom is trying to forget?

You say, "we are giving you some latitude, don't abuse it."  I hope you realize I didn't start this thread.  I only responded to the OP. And as other people comment, I responded back.  I don't really understand how that is even coming close to "abusing" whatever "latitude" I've been given.

If you choose to not care which day people should worship on, that is fine.  But, God does care or He wouldn't have said REMEMBER.

If you want to close the thread, that is fine, too. I just hope that you won't remove it, so that others can study for themselves and see wherein the TRUTH lies....

Oh, one other thought... you said, "We, who have been set free, have the law written on our hearts and the Holy Spirit within to guide us."  God isn't going to write ONE LAW on Tables of Stone and a DIFFERENT LAW on our hearts.  He writes the SAME LAW on both.

I don't care how many churches observe the sabbath! Those who wish to observe the sabbath, will do so and those who do NOT, will NOT observe it, PERIOD. Just as you can't make a horse drink water, you can't force another to accept your views regarding this.

We are not limited to meeting on just one day, since no day has been specifically set aside by God for “CHRISTIAN” fellowship and worship. We are always in the presence of God and worship him continually because He and Christ reside in us through the indwelling Holy Spirit.

No reason to get upset, Appy.  I'm not trying to FORCE anyone to accept the Sabbath.  I'm just explaining to you my understanding of the Sabbath and our duty as Christians to obey the Bible.  People are free to choose whatever they want to choose.

I don't know what difference that would make, and I don't know what your definition is for "ALL OTHER CHRISTIAN religions." It seems to me that in America, where a large percentage of Christians live, Sunday is their day of worship.

Yes, it has become that....but that is just TRADITION....  Just because our parents and grandparents do certain things, doesn't necessarily mean they were right :)

  17. I would like to share a few statements with you all regarding what other CHRISTIAN  religions say about the Sabbath.

"Where are we told in the Scriptures that we are to keep the first day at all?  We are commanded to keep the seventh, but we are nowhere commanded to keep the first day." (Plain Sermons on the Catechism, Isaac Williams - an Anglican)

"There is nothing in Scripture that requires us to keep Sunday rather than Saturday as a holy day."  (Christianity Today, Nov. 5, 1976, Harold Lindsell, former editor - a Baptist.)

"Let us be clear on this point, thought the Christian 'that day, the first day of the week' is the most memorable of all days....there is no command or warrant in the New Testament for observing it as a holy day." (Bible Standard, May, 1916 - Church of Christ.)

"Nowhere in the Bible is it laid down that worship would be done on Sunday." (Toronto Daily Star, October 26, 1949, Phillip Carrington - an Episcopalian.)

"The Sabbath was founded on a specific divine command. We can plead no such command for the obligation to observe Sunday....There is not a single sentence in the New Testament to suggest that we incur any penalty by violating the supposed sanctity of Sunday."  (The Ten Commandments, Dr. R. W. Dale - a Congregationalist.)

"The reason we observe the first day instead of the seventh is based on no positive command. One will search the Scriptures in vain for authority for changing from the seventh day to the first." (Ten Rules for Living, Clovis G. Chappell - a Methodist)

Yes indeed the first day of the week is a wonderful time for fellowship but just remember it's not a commandment.

I agree! :)  I love to fellowship with believers on EVERY DAY, Sunday included :)  But I do not keep the Sabbath on Sunday as that is, as you stated, the 1st day of the week.  The Sabbath is the 7th day...and that is the day that GOD Himself set aside for us to worship on.

John 20:18  Mariam Magdalene comes and declares to the disciples [that] I have seen the Lord, and he had said these things to her.
19  When therefore it was evening on that day, the first of the week, and when the doors were shut where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and saith to them, Peace to you.
20  And on saying this, he showed them the hands and the side. The disciples therefore rejoiced when they saw the Lord.

Acts 20:7  And upon the first day of the week, when we were gathered to break bread, Paul discoursed with them, intending to depart on the morrow; and prolonged his speech until midnight.

1Cor 16:2  Upon the first day of the week let each of you lay by him in store, as he may prosper, that when I come no collections be then made.

Waggles, what do you think these verses have to do with the Sabbath? I see no mention of the Sabbath in them. Yes, Jesus was resurrected on Sunday, the 1st day of the week.  And Acts 20:7, Paul was getting ready to leave the believers and everyone go together for a big pot luck before he left on Sunday to give him a going away dinner.  And 1 Corinthians 16:2 just says that people are supposed to sit down on the 1st day of the week and get their finances in order, so that when Paul came, they would have it all figured out how much their tithes and offerings were.  There is nothing about the Sabbath in any of these verses that I can see.

If I could choose a verse that would address the relevance of the physical  day, it would be Colossians 2:16-17:

" Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ. "

Even though we are not commanded to worship on Sunday,  I believe there is spiritual significance behind it.

Walter that verse has EVERYTHING to do with the CEREMONIAL LAW where they offered MEATS and DRINKS as offerings and they had special HOLY DAYS such as the Passover and the Feast of Tabernacles, etc.  It has NOTHING to do with the MORAL LAW and the weekly SABBATH. :)
