  1. What is the scripture reference people use when they say Hell is separation from God? I am not looking for people tell me there is no scripture reference or that Hell is a physical place...I do not need more scripture references to back that up those points. I simply cannot find anyone who actually believes it on the net arguing that Hell is separation from God using scripture. I feel like when I was reading through the gospels at some point that I read something that Jesus said that could be perceived to mean that Hell is separation from God...but clearly cannot find it now. I do believe God is omnipresent and that the separation would not be a physical one per se...unless unbelievers are totally destroyed. However, I believe that in reading separation from God that it would be positional, as we were before Christ.
  2. Not a direct reference to you, but I understand your perspective better as well now. This gives me 2 fairly decent arguments thus far. Are there any believers that think the Anakites are their own tribe and came directly throuh Canaan.
  3. So your thought is that the Nephilim were not even of Noah and his family rather of a non-human race altogether. I can see that I guess. I misunderstood your first post. I will disagree however about his family. Ham was in fact responsible for the curse on Canaan due to his sin. The other thing that I notice is that the flood was purposed to rid the world of the human race--directly connecting to chapter 6 verse 4. However, I guess if you do not consider the Anakites as part of the human race, this verse would in fact constitute the need to bring 2 on board. I am not sure that I agree that the Anakites came via the route you describe, but I can understand your point and will not reject it as wrong, considering there is nothing specific in the Word. Can anyone who believes that the Anakites came via Canaan answer my question?
  4. After reading through the comments thus far, I want to start by saying I understand I was given scriptural evidence, but I made a point of saying that specifically due to what I have seen online with regard to the specificity of my question. The question was in fact referring specifically to the human side of the equation. If one believe that the Nephillim were in fact hyperbolic or if one believes in a human-angel or human-fallen angel conception is not the question. The question simply refers to which aspect of the lineage of Noah the Anakites descended from. While, Noah and his wife may have been perfect in their generations, his sons and their wives were not necessarily. In any case, I am not worried specifically about how the Anakites were created rather who their lineage is through. It is true that the Anakites were living in Canaan, specifically Kiriath Arba (Hebron). However, does that neccessarily mean they descended from Canaan? If so, through whom?
  5. Hmmmm...not quite what I was looking for. I was hoping someone could add something to the conversation about which line of Noah's family the Anakites came through--scriptural evidence is welcomed. I
  6. Before answering, please understand that I have done a great deal of research, so I do not need an in depth explanation of the Nephilim. When Moses sent spies into Canaan, they came back reporting the sons of Anak. Anak is said to be the son of Arba according to Joshua 15:13. Here's my difficulty. I am trying to figure out where these Anakites originated considering they came after the flood. I have seen it said that they came from the Amorites. Others say they are the sons of Seth. Both of whom come from the line of Canaan (the cursed). It appears the argument for the lineage deriving from Seth is due to the sons of Seth being in Kiriath Arba. The argument for the Amorites is slightly unclear going as far back as Abraham's commission. Regardless, I am hoping that someone else can shed some light on this for me. Whether you believe in giants or not, the Anakites were a real people. Anak was the son of Arba. (Some say that the Anakites were Raphaites descendents of Rapha because of 2 Sam. 21:15-22(NIV) and Deut. 2:10-11(NIV)) The question becomes: Where did Arba come from?
  7. 1. My mom is worried that reed diffusers have a negative spiritual element about them. I have dug and dug, and I haven't seen a single opinion or argument that can explain her opinion. All she can ever say is that it seems to similar to incense. I want as much info as I can get about her concerns. If someone does understand my mom's argument even if they do not agree, I would like to hear it because I haven't heard an explanation yet. 2. Incense, I do not burn them, and I have not done my digging on this subject either, but I know that they are used in many churches and frowned upon in others. Why?
  8. I want to thank everyone for their help. I am beginning to put together my pacing guide for next semester, and I really do appreciate all the feedback. Also, I am working on World Literature, so if anyone knows of anything that would pass the 'School's' ideas of good reading from the Asian community or the South American community, it would be greatly appreciated. Also if anyone knows how I can go about getting 30 volumes of any given work based on world literature 'Free', that would be great. The books that I put up on the list were the entirety of my selection to work from and even with many of those, we didn't have more than 20 copies which is bad when most class sizes are roughly 25 students in size and you have to teach 3 classes a day. So much for take home lit.
  9. Below is a list of books that I have to choose from in teaching. I need a conservative Christian to help me sift through this list for which reading would be approved clean and not (please explain why in some detail at least) as I have not read them all yet: -Things Fall Apart by Achebe -The Hunchback of Notre Dame by Hugo -Like Water For Chocolate by Esquivel -Candide by Voltaire -My Forbidden Face by Latifa -The Lais of Marie de France -The Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom -Oedipus Rex by Homer -Cyrano de Bergerac by Rostand -Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl -Night by Wiesel -Antigone -Year of Wonders by Brooks
  10. I don't want this to be controversial. I simply have a question. Why is it that we don't ever see miracles on TV shows and videos that pertain miracle conferences, etc.? All we see is testimonies. I fully believe in miracles, but I have to be honest, how would someone who is a skeptic be encouraged by such clips. Would a true miracle not have a real impact?
  11. I took a look at the other two scriptures a little bit ago before having looked at your suggestion, and it brought me to a point where I connected the prayer and fasting with the idea of a particular type of demon as well as an issue of lack of faith as mentioned in Matthew (mustard seed). However, I still feel that there is something more, and I thank you all for what you have come up with, but I really feel like there is something here to be revealed, something that is not merely a pre-meal salad if you will. Is it possible that these disciples were not neccessarily apostles? And is it feasible that to have faith but have it smaller than a mustard seed? I believe that there must be something said about that. One possibility is the idea of the disciples becoming too confident, if this is the case, the fear of man would prevent them from glorifying God. More thoughts are appreciated.

    Mark 9:29

Alright, so I understand that various bibles have either prayer written or prayer and fasting written. This is beside the point. The question is here ,why would the demon only come out by prayer and fasting? Now, the question is not neccessarily about the why as much as it is why the apostles could not drive the demon out. This is what I have noticed: 1. Jesus did not pray and fast over this specific situation. There was simply a command given as in many cases. True He constanly prayed and fasted, but did the apostles not pray and fast? 2. Also, could it really have been an issue with faith? I mean, the apostles had driven out numerous demons by this point. These are just a couple thoughts I believe that their is more meat to this scripture than most people give credit; I simply can not find it. Hey, I bet prayer and fasting might help in hearing God. Hmm... -Warrior for God-
  13. Well, it has been I do not know how long since I have been on here, but I finally found my answer. In the beginning God made man, and He said that he was good. When we took a bite of that apple, we became evil in nature. However, when we accepted Chirst, when we chose to stand in faith, we inevitably became righteous in our very nature. Why do we sin still then? The answer is fairly easy. Our flesh is against us, and the dark forces of this world are in opposition to us. When we sin, it is not because we are sinners in nature. Because in context, Paul tells us that we are no longer living by our sinful nature but instead by the Spirit. Thus, when we sin, it is like Michael Jordan, in his prime, missing a dunk; it is a mistake. I heard a preacher on the other side of the country once tell a story of an Adult Sunday School teacher who came to him after a message one Sunday. He had preached on righteousness. she told him that she liked his message, all except for the part about us being righteous by nature--which was the entire message. She said that she spent her entire time trying to keep her class from sinning. He told her that if she taught that they were sinners that they would sin by faith. I though that was quite excellent. Thanks for what everyone shared.
  14. Hey, I have posted a topic in prayer requests, but I feel that it may be good to be posted here. I have tasted of the sweet refreshing water. I was able to live in full submission to the Holy Spirit and follow His leading for right at 3 months. Then, it disappated. I became selfish, and I began to do things my way. I did not want to though. I wanted to continue to live in the Spirit, but war was waged on my mind, and I have been trapped in a thicket of fog for a while now. How do I see again? How do I get back into the Spirit as before? I mean, I was seeing the Lord move daily...miracles, healing, and everything else. I saw God glorified in ways I never though imaginable. People's relationships with the Lord were restored. I mean, I do not know exactly what to ask other than...how do I get God to in my life like this again. I have tasted of the honey, and I am hungry for more. It is so spectacular to see God move. I miss it. G.W.C.

    War?

Hey, I've been a member here for a little while, but I am still young in my faith...are there any pacifist Christians that can explain how war is wrong according to scripture?
