  1. Interesting post, God-man! So if I may tie this thread in with my definition of faith thread.... Is living out a realtionship with God by faith in Christ fulfilling the Law of Christ?
  2. By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.---Jesus Christ. My vote goes for a LOCK on this thread.
  3. I told myself I would no longer get involved here in this discussion, but I feel the need to comment on something that I have not seen elsewhere in this thread. Go back and read Acts 2:21 where The Apostle Peter quotes the OT book where "whoever calls on the name of the LORD Shall be saved" comes from (Joel 2:32). The Apostle Peter had just told the Jews that if they call upon the name of the LORD they would be saved and then they asked "What shall we do?" In other words they were saying, "HOW do we call upon the name of the LORD." and The Apostle Peter answered: Repent and be baptized The same issue with Saul--he believed and confessed Jesus as LORD three days before his sins were washed away via baptism. And notice in Acts 22:16 that the way that Saul called upon the name of the LORD was through baptism. Remember, he had already believed that Jesus was the Christ and had confessed Him as LORD three days before he was baptized according to Acts 22:10. Baptism is a commandment of the Lord Jesus according to the end of both Matthew and Mark. God bless each of you.
  4. There is only one way to baptize. It means to completely overwhelm. There are other words that could have been used to mean sprinkle or pour. Look up baptizo in Strong's and verify that for yourself.
  5. Anybody have any additional thoughts?
  6. justjake, could you clarify that? I don't really understand what you meant by it. Sure I will. (sorry about my misspelling here----I am a high school dropout) I personally accept the teaching that one must submit to the commands of Christ in order to receive salvation, and Matthew 28 and Mark 16 both say that one must be baptized in order to be saved and be a disciple of Christ. But if a baptist is baptized by a baptist preacher, none of whom believes that such is required for salvation, does that mean that God didn't recogonize their baptism? Of course He does. And that is all that I am saying. Once we submit to all of what the Bible teaches about salvation, we are saved. Being baptized by a baptist church and then going to a church where they say that baptism is part of the Gospel and joining there does not mean that they need to be re-baptized.
  7. We need to accept ALL of what the Bible teaches about salvation before we form our doctrine. Not just take a few verses that seem to agree with what we want to believe and then try to explain everything else away. Romans 10 was written to already immersed believers----it was not meant to tell a lost person how to be saved.

    Salvation "IF YOU"

These scriptures seem to indicate that if a believer's works aren't pleasing to the Lord, his works will not remain and there will be no reward, but the believer will still be saved. Those Scriptures do say that if a man's works are burned up he will still be saved. But lousy works are not the same as commiting wicked acts of immorality. Paul addressed this very subject just 3 chapters later when he warns these same believers that they can still miss out on inheriting the kingdom of God! What exactly is Paul saying here? Is he not warning Christians to not sue other Christians because such will be denied enterance into God's heaven? He didn't stop with just suing (the wicked act he was refering to) other believers, but said that if anybody is commiting any other of the acts listed that they simply won't be allowed to enter heaven. +++ The Bible teaches that God desires that ALL men be saved, right (2 Peter 3:9; 1 Timothy 2:4)? And the Bible teaches that we are saved by our faith, right (Ephesians 2:8-9; Matthew 9:22)? And the Bible teaches that God gives a measure of faith to all men, right (Romans 12:3 may seem to say that, but I am not sure)? So does that mean that since God wants ALL to be saved and faith is what saves and God gives each one a measure of faith, does that mean that ALL will be saved? Or is there some sort of human responsibility involved?
  9. Go to the baptism thread in doctrine to see why this is. That was the first time that God allowed a Gentile conversion not practing Judiasm. That is the very moment where God allowed Gentiles to have salvation, of which I assume that you are one. Don't bite the hand that feeds you.
  10. WOW!!!!!! I need to get YOUR Bible that has at least 9 more chapters in those two books! Just messing with you, Nebuchadnezza10! Don't take it literally. Just having fun. But I do want to point something out here that is in great error. Not every Church of Christ is what you claim that it is. I do not, and have never, gone to a Church of Christ for worship, but I did speak in great detail with a minister from a local Church of Christ and they are not a cult. They do not teach that you must be baptized into their church in order to be a Christian. If you care to look up here is the website, while this is a link from their website that goes to another Church of Christ link. I don't beleive that they teach you must be baptized into the Church of Christ in order to be a Christian. But I do think I understand (and reject) the reason why some may believe that. The Bible teaches that we are united with Christ at baptism in Romans 6 and if someone is baptized for any reason other (like as an outward sign of inward grace as some people like to say) the baptism was the incorrect baptism. That is my understanding of it anyway and please be aware that I personally do not hold that belief!!!

    Salvation "IF YOU"

Well, here are some quotes: Here is a Jewish translation (JNTP) by David H. Stern, a Messianic Jew: Did you notice that these literal translations give much more detail to this passage? It shows that it is only impossible as long as they are executing or crucifying Jesus again. It is also clear that they can return and reclaim their previous position after they stop and repent of their wicked deeds. Like take the following sentense: "You used to go out and party until 4 AM when you lived in your apartment, but as long as you are under my roof, you can not live that way--my house my rules." This is sort of like what Hebrews 6:4-6 is saying. You can't be saved as long as you are re-crucifying Jesus by living a sinful lifestyle. Here is one more passage that says you can reclaim your place in God's kingdom: My understanding of this passage is that the Jews (natural branches) were broken off because of unbelief (not having faith). So God turned to the Gentiles and even they could be broken off because of unbelief (not having faith), but if they are convicted of sin, they can reclaim their place if they repent. God did break off the Jews:
  12. Can I ask what tone this comment is meant with? I would like to know. We are supposed to treat each other with Christian love. It is with a tone of frustration. Well, just so that you know, everynight when I pray, I pray that God would lead me into the fullness of His truth. In order, I pray that God would lead me deeper into: 1. love 2. peace 3. joy 4. truth Why do I do that? Because I am not too prideful to admit that I don't have 100% of my belief system correct. Can you say the same?
  13. Nobody taught this doctrine for 1,500 years, so it can't be true. Especially in light of the fact that God is love. Love demands a choice to love or reject. If Calvinism and predestined salvation is true than God is a Divine Rapist.

    Salvation "IF YOU"

How about we not talk about what our opinions are and just stick with the Word of God? How are we saved? By faith? Yes, God supplies the grace, we supply the faith? Isn't that what Ephesians 2:8-9 says? Grace through faith Grace (God) + faith (man) = relationship What exactly is faith? Is it legalistic works? Or is it submission to Christ as Lord and belief in action? Again, what is faith?

    Salvation "IF YOU"

Why is it so important to you that this question be answered? Are you wanting to see how far you can go into a sinful lifestyle?
