  1. Brother, I hope that you do not get offended by my response here. But maybe if you take offense there may be an element of truth to it. Oftentimes we get offended by things that we know deep down inside are true. In any case it is not my intent here to offend you. It really appears to me that you are a person who has never seriously bothered to immerse himself in the Scriptures. You have not objectively examined the evidence of the Bible, and seriously researched answers to these questions yourself. Were you more knowledgable of the Scriptures (And not just the Scriptures themselves, but the history of the Scriptures, and the various studies and commentaries, etc) then it is not likely that you would fall prey to the typical atheistic drivel that many of us have read before; and believe me, this is atheistic drivel. You would do better in your Christian life to develop a solid relationship with the Scriptures. It is the Scriptures that are your protection from the enemy, and the sword by which you fight him (Eph. 6:17). The Scriptures are the guide for your Christian life, the "manual" by which you are instructed in righteousness, encouragement, endurance, and hope (3 Tim. 3:16; Rom. 15:4). Your fighting against God's Word through vain questionings begets contentions and are unprofitable (1 Tim. 1:4; 6:4; Titus 3:9). These questionings are the result of an untrained mind (2 Tim. 2:23; cf. Darby's). It is my opinion that these questions do not demand an answer at all, especially when they are asked by a brother in the Lord. If these were asked by an atheist in apologetics, perhaps some attempts at addressing them might be profitable for the purpose of leading him to Christ, but coming from someone who has already received the Lord it seems quite pointless. You should know better. And if you don't, you should at least endeavor to seek the truth yourself in the counsel of the various studies, commentaries, etc., that clarify these matters. As I had stated above, and which I still believe, your problem appears to be much deeper than a simple disagreement with the Bible. Your waning of faith cannot be based upon an intellectual discrepancy, but if it is then the first thing you should do is surrender yourself again to Christ! Secondly, you should begin to immerse yourself in the Scriptures, praying daily over them. Much Grace, ~O My friend I have read scripture for years, studied it and so on. I have very well knowledged in the Bible, I am also truly born again, Christ changed my heart. Ever since I started looking into judiasm, I have been having doubts. The overwhelming evidence about the NT, and all the schemes used to answer the critics The Genealogy of Jesus 1A record of the genealogy of Jesus Christ the son of David, the son of Abraham: 2Abraham was the father of Isaac, Isaac the father of Jacob, Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers, 3Judah the father of Perez and Zerah, whose mother was Tamar, Perez the father of Hezron, Hezron the father of Ram, 4Ram the father of Amminadab, Amminadab the father of Nahshon, Nahshon the father of Salmon, 5Salmon the father of Boaz, whose mother was Rahab, Boaz the father of Obed, whose mother was Ruth, Obed the father of Jesse, 6and Jesse the father of King David. David was the father of Solomon, whose mother had been Uriah's wife, 7Solomon the father of Rehoboam, Rehoboam the father of Abijah, Abijah the father of Asa, 8Asa the father of Jehoshaphat, Jehoshaphat the father of Jehoram, Jehoram the father of Uzziah, 9Uzziah the father of Jotham, Jotham the father of Ahaz, Ahaz the father of Hezekiah, 10Hezekiah the father of Manasseh, Manasseh the father of Amon, Amon the father of Josiah, 11and Josiah the father of Jeconiah[a] and his brothers at the time of the exile to Babylon. 12After the exile to Babylon: Jeconiah was the father of Shealtiel, Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel, 13Zerubbabel the father of Abiud, Abiud the father of Eliakim, Eliakim the father of Azor, 14Azor the father of Zadok, Zadok the father of Akim, Akim the father of Eliud, 15Eliud the father of Eleazar, Eleazar the father of Matthan, Matthan the father of Jacob, 16and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ. 17Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Christ. I only read 40 generations here.
  2. I am a christian that has foud any problems with the NT, why is the typical christian answer to pray to God and the devil is tricking you. The evidence is tracking me, lets start with Matthew the geneology of matthew syas it has 42 generations from abraham to christ go ahead and count in the NT how many generation there really are?I dare you guys to stop saying the devil this and that and pray this and that and answer the questions
  3. even this apologosy grasps for straws, but cant ignore ome of the similarities http://www.tektonics.org/copycat/mithra.html
  4. I am a born again christain. These are real doubts I have come across, this is historic evidence that mithra was many years before christ
  5. Now you sound like a mormom, they say read the book of mormom and seek god, if you get a burning feeling then you know god is telling you to follow him. I want answers to these tough objections, why can christains duck the tough stuff, but if its other religions stealing material from the NT, ex:mormons, Islam, Witness then its about finding the facts and what the word says, not how you feel.
  6. So Matthew can use prophecies that can be figuratively speaking? What about Matthews geneology with the curse of Jeconiah in the middle? The tanach is clear that messiah will be a direct descandent of David and Solomon. And when your days (David) are fulfilled, and you shall sleep with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, who shall issue from your bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for my name, and I will make firm the throne of his kingdom forever..." (2 Samuel 7:12 - 13) Lukes geneology doesn't even count because it went through Nathan not Solomon. Matthew also claims to have 42 generations in all, count them, because it doesn't come to 42 no way no how. The prophecy from Matthew 2:15 out of egypt I called my son Hosea 11:1 this verse speaks of the nation of Israel being called out by God after the Exodus, anything else is twisting scripture. If you can take verses out of context and apply them to NT writings then whats the difference when Mormons use Ezekiel 37 to say that this speaks of the book of mormon, when islam uses Moses verse of Duet 18:15 and says it speaks of Mohammed not Jesus. They use similarities between Mohammed and Moses that are similar than Jesus and Moses. They were both prophets, both had a mom and dad, both died and didn't raise from the dead, both married, both had children, and on and on it goes. Matthew 2:23, once again now we can use figurative speaking in this prophecy, it can't go both ways, you cant use some verses figuratively and some literally, this is scripture twisting. Matt 11:14 And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come.(see also Mark 9:13) John 1:21 And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he saith, I am not. once again, was he or was he not?, but once again the claim is he was but not the Elijah that was taken to heaven. This speaks figuratively right? The temptation of Jesus, why would Satan, if he knew Jesus was fully God ever tempt him. Satan of all people knows that God can not choose evil, this story just doesn't make sense Why would satan waste his time. All the miracles, healings, feeding the thousands, raising the dead, and the other things Jesus did. Why is there not one single recorded writing about Jesus from anyone of the era, all that is found is writings of Josephus that many scholars agree arefraudulentt words added to bolster Jesus as the Christ. Josephus has writings about Herod, Pilate, John the baptist, the jewish war. Not one mention of Jesus, if jesus was as the new testament desrcibes him, wouldn't he be the talk of the century. This is a big void in chchristainitya guy who raised himself from the dead, but no recorded evidence. The NT wouldn't count, because it has a bbias plus all religions have thee own twist on what happened, look at Islam and Mormonism. Since the time of Christ, have there been any miracles like the ones done by jesus and some of the christians in acts? If these things hhappended wouldn't they be recorded, people being healed, raised from the dead even in the book of Acts, which was written maybe 60 A.D. The Beatitudes, there are some incredible saying in this message, but I guess these count as figurative, not literal. Thats all for now, I will post more, but I have a hard time when really examining the NT. The many similiarities between Mithriasm and Christainity Mithra, Light of the World Excerpted from the forthcoming book Suns of God: Krishna, Buddha and Christ Unveiled by Acharya S "Mithra or Mitra is even worshipped as Itu (Mitra-Mitu-Itu) in every house of the Hindus in India. Itu (derivative of Mitu or Mitra) is considered as the Vegetation-deity. This Mithra or Mitra (Sun-God) is believed to be a Mediator between God and man, between the Sky and the Earth. It is said that Mithra or Sun took birth in the Cave on December 25th. It is also the belief of the Christian world that Mithra or the Sun-God was born of Virgin. He travelled far and wide. He has twelve satellites, which are taken as the Sun's disciples.... [The Sun's] great festivals are observed in the Winter Solstice and the Vernal Equinox--Christmas and Easter. His symbol is the Lamb...." Swami Prajnanananda, Christ the Saviour and Christ Myth, 1961 Because of its evident relationship to Christianity, special attention needs to be paid to the Persian/Roman religion of Mithraism. The worship of the Indo-Persian god Mithras or Mithra dates back centuries or millennia prior to the common era. The god is found as "Mitra" in the Indian Vedic religion, which is over 3,500 years old, by conservative estimates. When the Iranians separated from their Indian brethren, Mitra became known as "Mithra" or "Mihr," as he is called in Persian. Concerning the ancient unity of the Indian and Iranian peoples, Dr. Haug states, according to Prasad: "The relationship of the Avesta language to the most ancient Sanskrit, the so-called Vedic dialect, is as close as that of the different dialects of the Greek language (Aeolic, Ionic, Doric, or Attic) to each other. The languages of the sacred hymns of the Brahmans and of those of the Parsis are only the two dialects of the separate tribes of one and the same nation
  7. With trying to be the prefect christian and thus beat yourself up to the point were you are ineffective and feel guilty for past and present mistakes and start to drift from God?
  8. I think avenaue said it right, the apostle Paul persuaded many to the risen Christ, he argued many times in the book of acts to the jews.
  9. Well we can take that verse in 2 ways, either Jesus was speaking from a human standpoint, or he was speaking as the 2nd person in the truine godhead.
  10. I have studied most all major cults and religions, I have a basic idea of what they believe, but when I started studying Judiasm and why they dont accept Jesus, it got me thinking that about my faith and whether what I believe is real. It started one day when I approaching jewish guy at wal-mart and tried to question him about jesus, he said some things that I never heard before, our bible is mistranslated in the old testament, Jesus didn't fulfill prophecies, and so on. Ater 3 weeks of struggling with it, I came to see Jesus truly is the Christ , the Son if the Living God, I'm glad I did look into Judiasm and learn about what they believe, it also helps you appreciate what other people believe and accept other faiths that don't agree with yours.
  11. I think one must know other religions, for once it strengthens your own faith and educates you. You also are able to defend the faith by knowing the other teams offense already. The bible instructs us to be ready to give an answer to anyone who asks and why would you believe something if it false and can be proven false. Wouldn't you like other religions to investigate the truth, thus coming to knowledge of the Jesus Christ.
  12. yomotalking what is the url for that website?
  13. I have bee a christian for 9 years, I have always questioned the once saved always saved thing. If you look back at the 2000 years of the church history, do we really thing that the body of christ preached this like it does in the 20th and 21 century, the reformation didn't start till 1515. It just seems like everything that the roman catholic church believed was denounced by the protestant reformation out of spite. Even early church fathers didn't agree with what is being preached in this era... personally I'm still searching for what the bible says, there are a lot of verses that speak for both ways, but this era of christainity won't touch verses that don't go with the comfortable once saved always saved doctrine. check out what early great church fathers said Irenaeus, Tertullian, Cyprian, Polycarp, Justin Martyr, Origen http://www.bible.ca/indexHistory.htm
  14. Scholars have admitted there have been scribal errors in the Bible. There are some contradictions in the bible that even scholars cant explain why 1- matthews genelogy doesnt have the 42 generations spoken of 2- gospel of matthew and the gospel of mark both have the withered fig tree, in 1 gospel the tree withers right away, the other gospel it takes all night. 3 - Who killed Goliath, David or Elhanan? 1 Samuel 17:50 and 2 Samuel 21:19 - copyist error 4-How many stalls of horses did Solomon have, 4,000 or 40,000? 1 Kings 4:26 and 2 Chronicles 9:25 - copyist error 5-Was Jairus' daughter alive or dead when he came to Jesus? Matthew 9:18 and Mark 5:23 6-What was written on the sign on the cross? Matthew 27:37; Mark 15:26; Luke 23:38; John 19:19 these are some of them.
  15. [Dont forget Christmas was a pagan holiday once before rome accepted Christainity as its country religion. The myth of a god named Mariathism was celebrated on Dec. 25 originally, not Jesus.
  16. I am a christian, but love educating myself on other religions, Judiasm is the only religion that has me a state of doubt right now, I still accept my Jesus, but I am having a diffucult time with this. I got that info from Jews for Judiasm, it's pretty clear to them Chrits isn't Messiah, but I need facts, and I just can't find any to refute some of thier ideas on messiah. I need info for me and my faith alone.
  17. know the Hebrew Bible because its there native tongue.. It is important to understand why Jews don't believe in Jesus. The purpose is not to disparage other religions, but rather to clarify the Jewish position. The more data that's available, the better-informed choices people can make about their spiritual path. Jews do not accept Jesus as the messiah because: 1) Jesus did not fulfill the messianic prophecies. 2) Jesus did not embody the personal qualifications of the Messiah. 3) Biblical verses "referring" to Jesus are mistranslations. 4) Jewish belief is based on national revelation. At the end of this article, we will examine these additional topics: 5) Christianity contradicts Jewish theology 6) Jews and Gentiles 7) Bringing the Messiah -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <B>1) JESUS DID NOT FULFILL THE MESSIANIC PROPHECIES What is the Messiah supposed to accomplish? The Bible says that he will: A. Build the Third Temple (Ezekiel 37:26-28). B. Gather all Jews back to the Land of Israel (Isaiah 43:5-6). C. Usher in an era of world peace, and end all hatred, oppression, suffering and disease. As it says: "Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall man learn war anymore." (Isaiah 2:4) D. Spread universal knowledge of the God of Israel, which will unite humanity as one. As it says: "God will be King over all the world -- on that day, God will be One and His Name will be One" (Zechariah 14:9). The historical fact is that Jesus fulfilled none of these messianic prophecies. Christians counter that Jesus will fulfill these in the Second Coming, but Jewish sources show that the Messiah will fulfill the prophecies outright, and no concept of a second coming exists. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) JESUS DID NOT EMBODY THE PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS OF MESSIAH A. MESSIAH AS PROPHET Jesus was not a prophet. Prophecy can only exist in Israel when the land is inhabited by a majority of world Jewry. During the time of Ezra (circa 300 BCE), when the majority of Jews refused to move from Babylon to Israel, prophecy ended upon the death of the last prophets -- Haggai, Zechariah and Malachi. Jesus appeared on the scene approximately 350 years after prophecy had ended. B. DESCENDENT OF DAVID The Messiah must be descended on his father's side from King David (see Genesis 49:10 and Isaiah 11:1). According to the Christian claim that Jesus was the product of a virgin birth, he had no father -- and thus could not have possibly fulfilled the messianic requirement of being descended on his father's side from King David! C. TORAH OBSERVANCE The Messiah will lead the Jewish people to full Torah observance. The Torah states that all mitzvot remain binding forever, and anyone coming to change the Torah is immediately identified as a false prophet. (Deut. 13:1-4) Throughout the New Testament, Jesus contradicts the Torah and states that its commandments are no longer applicable. For example, John 9:14 records that Jesus made a paste in violation of Shabbat, which caused the Pharisees to say (verse 16), "He does not observe Shabbat!" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) MISTRANSLATED VERSES "REFERRING" TO JESUS Biblical verses can only be understood by studying the original Hebrew text -- which reveals many discrepancies in the Christian translation. A. VIRGIN BIRTH The Christian idea of a virgin birth is derived from the verse in Isaiah 7:14 describing an "alma" as giving birth. The word "alma" has always meant a young woman, but Christian theologians came centuries later and translated it as "virgin." This accords Jesus' birth with the first century pagan idea of mortals being impregnated by gods. B. CRUCIFIXION The verse in Psalms 22:17 reads: "Like a lion, they are at my hands and feet." The Hebrew word ki-ari (like a lion) is grammatically similar to the word "gouged." Thus Christianity reads the verse as a reference to crucifixion: "They pierced my hands and feet." C. SUFFERING SERVANT Christianity claims that Isaiah chapter 53 refers to Jesus, as the "suffering servant." In actuality, Isaiah 53 directly follows the theme of chapter 52, describing the exile and redemption of the Jewish people. The prophecies are written in the singular form because the Jews ("Israel") are regarded as one unit. The Torah is filled with examples of the Jewish nation referred to with a singular pronoun. Ironically, Isaiah's prophecies of persecution refer in part to the 11th century when Jews were tortured and killed by Crusaders who acted in the name of Jesus. From where did these mistranslations stem? St. Gregory, 4th century Bishop of Nanianzus, wrote: "A little jargon is all that is necessary to impose on the people. The less they comprehend, the more they admire." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) JEWISH BELIEF IS BASED SOLELY ON NATIONAL REVELATION Of the 15,000 religions in human history, only Judaism bases its belief on national revelation -- i.e. God speaking to the entire nation. If God is going to start a religion, it makes sense He'll tell everyone, not just one person. Judaism, unique among all of the world's major religions, does not rely on "claims of miracles" as the basis for its religion. In fact, the Bible says that God sometimes grants the power of "miracles" to charlatans, in order to test Jewish loyalty to the Torah (Deut. 13:4). Maimonides states (Foundations of Torah, ch. 8): The Jews did not believe in Moses, our teacher, because of the miracles he performed. Whenever anyone's belief is based on seeing miracles, he has lingering doubts, because it is possible the miracles were performed through magic or sorcery. All of the miracles performed by Moses in the desert were because they were necessary, and not as proof of his prophecy. What then was the basis of [Jewish] belief? The Revelation at Mount Sinai, which we saw with our own eyes and heard with our own ears, not dependent on the testimony of others... as it says, "Face to face, God spoke with you..." The Torah also states: "God did not make this covenant with our fathers, but with us -- who are all here alive today." (Deut. 5:3) Judaism is not miracles. It is the personal eyewitness experience of every man, woman and child, standing at Mount Sinai 3,300 years ago. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) CHRISTIANITY CONTRADICTS JEWISH THEOLOGY The following theological points apply primarily to the Roman Catholic Church, the largest Christian denomination. A. GOD AS THREE? The Catholic idea of Trinity breaks God into three separate beings: The Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost (Matthew 28:19). Contrast this to the Shema, the basis of Jewish belief: "Hear O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is ONE" (Deut. 6:4). Jews declare the Shema every day, while writing it on doorposts (Mezuzah), and binding it to the hand and head (Tefillin). This statement of God's One-ness is the first words a Jewish child is taught to say, and the last words uttered before a Jew dies. In Jewish law, worship of a three-part god is considered idolatry -- one of the three cardinal sins that a Jew should rather give up his life than transgress. This explains why during the Inquisitions and throughout history, Jews gave up their lives rather than convert. B. MAN AS GOD? Roman Catholics believe that God came down to earth in human form, as Jesus said: "I and the Father are one" (John 10:30). Maimonides devotes most of the "Guide for the Perplexed" to the fundamental idea that God is incorporeal, meaning that He assumes no physical form. God is Eternal, above time. He is Infinite, beyond space. He cannot be born, and cannot die. Saying that God assumes human form makes God small, diminishing both His unity and His divinity. As the Torah says: "God is not a mortal" (Numbers 23:19). Judaism says that the Messiah will be born of human parents, and possess normal physical attributes like other people. He will not be a demi-god, and will not possess supernatural qualities. In fact, an individual is alive in every generation with the capacity to step into the role of the Messiah. (see Maimonides - Laws of Kings 11:3) C. INTERMEDIARY FOR PRAYER? The Catholic belief is that prayer must be directed through an intermediary -- i.e. confessing one's sins to a priest. Jesus himself is an intermediary, as Jesus said: "No man cometh unto the Father but by me." In Judaism, prayer is a totally private matter, between each individual and God. As the Bible says: "God is near to all who call unto Him" (Psalms 145:18). Further, the Ten Commandments state: "You shall have no other gods BEFORE ME," meaning that it is forbidden to set up a mediator between God and man. (see Maimonides - Laws of Idolatry ch. 1) D. INVOLVEMENT IN THE PHYSICAL WORLD Catholic doctrine often treats the physical world as an evil to be avoided. Mary, the holiest woman, is portrayed as a virgin. Priests and nuns are celibate. And monasteries are in remote, secluded locations. By contrast, Judaism believes that God created the physical world not to frustrate us, but for our pleasure. Jewish spirituality comes through grappling with the mundane world in a way that uplifts and elevates. Sex in the proper context is one of the holiest acts we can perform. The Talmud says if a person has the opportunity to taste a new fruit and refuses to do so, he will have to account for that in the World to Come. Jewish rabbinical schools teach how to live amidst the bustle of commercial activity. Jews don't retreat from life, we elevate it. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) JEWS AND GENTILES Judaism does not demand that everyone convert to the religion. The Torah of Moses is a truth for all humanity, whether Jewish or not. King Solomon asked God to heed the prayers of non-Jews who come to the Holy Temple (Kings I 8:41-43). The prophet Isaiah refers to the Temple as a "House for all nations." The Temple service during Sukkot featured 70 bull offerings, corresponding to the 70 nations of the world. The Talmud says that if the Romans would have realized how much benefit they were getting from the Temple, they'd never have destroyed it. Jews have never actively sought converts to Judaism because the Torah prescribes a righteous path for gentiles to follow, known as the "Seven Laws of Noah." Maimonides explains that any human being who faithfully observes these basic moral laws earns a proper place in heaven. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) BRINGING THE MESSIAH Maimonides states that the popularity of Christianity (and Islam) is part of God's plan to spread the ideals of Torah throughout the world. This moves society closer to a perfected state of morality and toward a greater understanding of God. All this is in preparation for the Messianic age. Indeed, the world is in desperate need of Messianic redemption. War and pollution threaten our planet; ego and confusion erode family life. To the extent we are aware of the problems of society, is the extent we will yearn for redemption. As the Talmud says, one of the first questions a Jew is asked on Judgment Day is: "Did you yearn for the arrival of the Messiah?" How can we hasten the coming of the Messiah? The best way is to love all humanity generously, to keep the mitzvot of the Torah (as best we can), and to encourage others to do so as well. Despite the gloom, the world does seem headed toward redemption. One apparent sign is that the Jewish people have returned to the Land of Israel and made it bloom again. Additionally, a major movement is afoot of young Jews returning to Torah tradition. The Messiah can come at any moment, and it all depends on our actions. God is ready when we are. For as King David says: "Redemption will come today -- if you hearken to His voice."
