  1. I think that these days there is more about trying to find a name that is unique, which in Australia at least has caused the authorities to reject some of the names parents are choosing for their newborns. Another factor that I believe causes poorly chosen names in this society is that there is a time frame in which we must register the name of our kids. I heard once that in ancient cultures, it would often take a long time for a child to be named, as the parents would watch the child, look at their temperament and personality and then choose a name that suited what they observed.

I like my name, and through most of school I would get annoyed with and sometimes ignored people who didn't use my proper, full, name. I'm not so rigid about it now, but now in the adult world, not many people try and use a nick-name for me.

  2. In this, the scripture that comes to mind is when Paul talks about being a stumbling block to those that may be less mature or firm in their faith as us. It does not make the activity right or wrong, but if doing something (of which we are still secure in our faith and Godly walk) causes someone else to falter, then we should reassess our actions and how they affect people around us.

  3. That's really thought provoking.

It's easy to be of the mindset: God is gracious and forgiving, I'll be okay 'cause He'll always forgive me, so I don't really need to deal with absolutely everything. It can also be so easy to see the speck in another's eye without realising that there's a plank in our own eye... Been guilty of that so many times.

  4. I also cook mostly dairy and glueten free food for my kids. Are your boys also allergic to buckwheat? I use buckwheat flour and rice powder instead of wheat for baking, and soy milk can be replaced by milk (not always though.)

not sure about the buckwheat, but we use a lot of rice flour and goat's milk. we have also noticed skin iritations flare up when maize starch/flour is used.

  5. Some of my family are intolerant to dairy and glueten, compounded by low tolerances to salycilates and amienes. we try to make their food as interesting as possible, yet there is a fair amount of sameness to it all.

If anyone knows of recipies that are useful, it would be greatl appreciated if you could share them. our boys have shown signs of being coeliac, but we haven't had them tested, due to cost, their young age and the type of test needed to do so.

    thanks

  6. American is striving it seems to take God out of everything. In Alamba they had to take the 10 commandments down, they were sued to get that one done. And now at the same court house there is a picture of Jesus and some are upset that it stands alone all by itself in separate place than the pics of George Washington, etc. So they had to move it to where the other pics were, I was surprised that they didn't make them take it down altogether.

that seems so crazy. Does some of your money still have 'In God we Trust'? to me, that seems to be a big irony

  7. i recieved this in an email today. Living in Australia with kids going to a christian school, I must confess a fair amount of ignorance to the issue of praying in public schools.

I would be interested to hear from people who have witnessed the effect of this.

    thank you

WRITTEN BY A 15 yr. Old SCHOOL KID IN ARIZONA :

New Pledge of Allegiance (TOTALLY AWESOME) !

    Since the Pledge of Allegiance

    And

    The Lord's Prayer

    Are not allowed in most

    Public schools anymore

Because the word 'God' is mentioned....

A kid in Arizona wrote the attached

    NEW School prayer :

Now I sit me down in school

Where praying is against the rule

For this great nation under God

Finds mention of Him very odd.

If Scripture now the class recites,

It violates the Bill of Rights.

And anytime my head I bow

    Becomes a Federal matter now.

Our hair can be purple, orange or green,

    That's no offense; it's a freedom scene.

The law is specific, the law is precise.

Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.

For praying in a public hall

Might offend someone with no faith at all.

In silence alone we must meditate,

God's name is prohibited by the state.

We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks,

And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks..

They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible.

To quote the Good Book makes me liable.

We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen,

And the 'unwed daddy,' our Senior King.

It's 'inappropriate' to teach right from wrong,

We're taught that such 'judgments' do not belong.

We can get our condoms and birth controls,

Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles.

But the Ten Commandments are not allowed,

No word of God must reach this crowd.

It's scary here I must confess,

When chaos reigns the school's a mess.

So, Lord, this silent plea I make:

Should I be shot; My soul please take!

    Amen

If you aren't ashamed to do this,

    Please pass this on.

    Jesus said,

'If you are ashamed of me,

I will be ashamed of you before my Father.'

Not ashamed. Pass thi s on.

  8. Just looking for any info on-

    1) Did God create diseases (harmful microbes)?

    2) If not, why did Adam & Eve have immune sytems? Or did immune systems develop later?

I'm genuinely hoping to know as a Christian using my mind. Am also prepared to accept "humans don't know". Thanks.

I don't know how these came to be, but yes by the 7th day everything had been done and was completed. Personally i believe that after this, the only thing(s) added to the world were the individuals of the species that were just created. From this point on, things died out or became extinct. I have heard (I can't verify accuracy though) that the human body was designed to continually regererate and scientists don't know why we age.

If this is correct, the only answer I can offer you is Jesus words in Jn 10:10 'The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.' I understand this to mean that Satan is destroying the natural order of interaction between all these microbes and such with our bodies, or even killing our 'imune' system to weaken us and bring about death.

But, then why do christians die the same as everyone else? I don't have an answer for that, other than God has perfect bodies waiting for us when we meet Him.

  9. I would like to throw this out as my first post there is a verse in the NT.

Gal 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

To me the point, that is trying to be made in the verse is that we are all one in Christ....and has little or nothing to do with gender in specific.

The reason I conclude this is from a much earlier verse in Genesis.

Gen 3:16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.

The verse states, in the bold part, that Eve's desire will be to Adam, and he will rule over her.

I hope folks understand that we have other translation's that render the word "rule" in a more agreeable fashion. I don't want to turn this into a battle of the sexes thread.

However, I do want to imply that prior to the Fall....the relationship between Adam and Eve must have been significantly different. It must have been for God to make such a transitional statement to Eve.

My thought would be that this "prior to the Fall" relationship would have been an equal one, bereft of authority.

In other words, I think Christ does not disengender us. I think he makes gender irrelevant to being one with him.

    What do you think?

    Respectfully,

    Mudcat

if christ is described as our bridegroom when we get to heaven, to me that means that there is no need for us to be male or female. also, even if christ were not our bridegroom, in heaven we would be surrounded with the full glory of God, andwe will be so intent on worshiping him that something like gender will seem insignficant.
