Also read the King James Version often. I quite reading the NIV and Living Bible. Recently I've starting reading the Wycliffe Bible (1395). I like the reading of the newer translations as opposed to the KJV but I also hate having to look at footnotes to see what verse isn't in the main text. I understand some ancient manuscript may not have a verse here and there, but I've grown accustomed to the KJV as a child and still consider it a point of reference.
