(Heb 12:5-7) There are two extremes when people react to discipline. Some who are disciplined take it too lightly, and so don't learn from the discipline. When God disciplines us, we shouldn't take it too lightly. But on the other hand, we shouldn't take it too seriously. Thus it warns fathers, "Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord." Eph 6:4 and "Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged." Col 3:21 There are those disciplined by the Lord who may feel that God has completely rejected them. That is not the case. "Our fathers disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in his holiness. No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it."
