5/8/2021 Seventh Day BAPTIST Edgewater Pastor Keith “Mother’s Day” John 2;1-11

Mothers are not perfect and need to know they are loved anyway. There is no such thing as a perfect mother. Even Mary, Jesus’s mother, was not perfect. The Bible says that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God and this includes Mary. She was not perfect but she was chosen by God to have Jesus as her baby. Mary taught Jesus how to walk and Mary taught Jesus how to talk. Jesus, the King of Kings, came to earth as a little baby to become one of us so that we could know Him. Mary may have told Jesus bedtime stories about His birth in the stable and the shepherds visiting. If anybody knew that Jesus was virgin born, it was Mary.

In our text, Mary and Jesus were invited to a wedding in Cana of Galilee. Jewish weddings could last for days with great feasts. At the wedding they ran out of wine and Mary knew exactly what to do. She went to her son Jesus, knowing that Jesus could take care of it. Mary just told Jesus “they have run out of wine”. Jesus knew exactly what his mother expected of Him. Jesus told her His hour had not come yet but Mary knew it had come. Jesus turned the water into wine and it was good wine, superior wine, made better than any other wine.

Jesus’s miracles began with the wine making and His miracles went on to healing people and raising Lazarus from the dead. You know, Jesus never preached at a funeral even though He was the greatest preacher. This is because once Jesus raised people from the dead, the funeral was over! Mary watched all this happening and she knew Jesus was the Son of God.  God in the flesh. Mary never said a word when Jesus was crucified because she knew who He was.

Back at the wedding in Cana, Mary told the servants to do whatever Jesus said to do. Mary had faith. She told the servants to just do what Jesus tells you. Mothers tell your children to do what Jesus tells you to do and have faith in the Son of God. Jesus is the same today as He was back then. He is still in the business of forgiving sins. Be a believer and know that Jesus will be there for you.

AMEN
