I know we can get a proper assessment on what is factual from a guy who believes in the Illuminati, chemtrails, massive election fraud, faked moon landings, 9/11 is an inside job, false flags... and for all I know the lizard people.

If you think FOX is liberal then I don't know what to tell you. You probably think Mussolini was a little right of center.

Yes, you're right.  There has never been an actual conspiracy theory in the history of the world!  :emot-shakehead:

Oh wait! There were over 50 confirmed conspiracies, including Wuhan just recently (only took them 3 years to figure that one out).  They should change the name 'Conspiracy Theory' to 'Spoiler Alert.'  :emot-nod:

Oh, and no on lizard people.

@Vine Abider You may find this article very interesting. It talks about a study conducted on how the news we consume alters our perception of facts:

https://www.theguardian.com/media/2022/apr/11/fox-news-viewers-watch-cnn-study

Thanks for sharing!  That's not surprising to me at all, that people who were previously Fox News watchers would change some opinion after watching CNN for a time.  And, of course, we are prone to be influenced by whatever we're surrounded with. Sure, Fox is biased and is now proven to have knowingly lied. But they are not the only news outlet who has been found to have had their hands in the biased cookie jar and have reported things in the favor of their viewership's leanings. (aka "lying").

We all have a bias.  The question is - how much are we aware that we have a bias?  I know I have a right/libertarian bias and therefore have to be on guard to not so easily dismiss things that don't line-up with that bias. And also not be so quick to jump on some conservative bandwagon "fact."

But it does little good, I've found, to point out things to those who are either far right or far left, that are contrary to their own views.  Those on the right will just argue against any facts that seem contrary.  But guess what - I've seen little difference in that respect with those on the left.

Most of Europe and a good part of the world, swims in a tank that is more leftward and socialistic.  So we in the USA automatically look further to the right to the majority of these folks.  (although I do have fairly conservative friends in other countries . . .)

The polarization in this country is quite concerning, and both right and left have their good points to make.  But suspicion of motive is very high on both sides. The right side thinks the left is bent on making us a full-blown socialistic (if not communistic) and godless society.  The left side thinks the right is bent on making us a full-blown corporate/capitalist and segregated theocracy.  Admittedly, the grand experiment of freedom is not looking so good these days, and much of the world seems to look forward to its failure . . . (Personally, my one hope is in the King)

So what is your bias?

@Slibhin here's an interesting article for your perusal:  https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2023/04/us-extremism-portland-george-floyd-protests-january-6/673088/

Someday, historians will look back at this moment and tell one of two stories: The first is a story of how democracy and reason prevailed. The second is a story of how minds grew fevered and blood was spilled in the twilight of a great experiment that did not have to end the way it did.

Which ones are your reputable sources?

Here is another interesting article from an insider:

He apparently has a book on the subject we're discussing.

So far, The Guardian is left leaning and so is Politico.   You quoted both, so your media sources are left leaning.  :emot-nod:

Yes, an interesting article.  I've read a few of those about various news agencies.  Fox may have went further in that erroneous direction than others, to be sure.  At least they are in the spotlight now . . .

That is correct. Here's a US media bias chart for larger outlets from Allsides.com, who employees a balanced review board of lefties and righties, as well as considers input from the public.  (They actually do bias ratings of a few hundred outlets.)

(Note: this chart is regarding media online reporting.  Sometimes their bias ratings vary from online to print to TV/radio reporting.)

Who cares?

Why are people here so obsessed with left/right? Is there some instrument that can measure one's "leftness/rightness" and therefore determine suitability to listen to?

I don't care if the truth comes from the mouth of the biggest lefty communist in the world and a lie comes from the mouth of the most right wing guy in the world. True is true and a lie is a lie.

Just look at Sparks who thinks FOX news is too liberal and woke. The older and more worldly I get the more I realize what a stupid and meaningless distinction these labels are.

The issue at hand is how people are choosing their facts rather then letting the facts inform their beliefs, and the self radicalization of different people in the western world. It's not just a American problem.

As ana side, that chart labels CNN as super "liberal", which is a load of nonsense. They are the most corporate pro-establishment network on television.

Yup, we all have our perspectives.  I think we've milked this discussion about as much as we can . . .

That's a nice small view.   I have seen them on infographs that go on for pages, with who owns whom.

Thanks, but know that Reuters does not belong in the middle, nor BBC, The Hill, etc.  They are left leaning.
