Psalm 22:30 A seed shall serve him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation.

1 Peter 2:9 & 10 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.

Isaiah 53:10 Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.

Romans 9:6-9 But it is not that the word of God has taken no effect. For they are not all Israel who are of Israel, nor are they all children because they are the seed of Abraham; but, In Isaac your seed shall be called. That is, those who are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God; but the children of the promise are counted as the seed. For this is the word of promise: At this time I will come and Sarah shall have a son.

Galatians 3:16-18 Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, And to seeds, as of many, but as of one, And to your Seed, who is Christ. And this I say, that the law, which was four hundred and thirty years later, cannot annul the covenant that was confirmed before by God in Christ, that it should make the promise of no effect. For if the inheritance is of the law, it is no longer of promise; but God gave it to Abraham by promise.

26-29 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

John 8:58 Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.

Hebrews 11:

4 By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts; and through it he being dead still speaks.

5 By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, “and was not found, because God had taken him”; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God

6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

7 By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.

By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.

By faith he dwelt in the land of promise as in a foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise;

10 for he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

I always found it interesting that Abraham was probably not initially a worshiper of God, his father worshiped idols.

Genesis 26:

3 Dwell in this land, and I will be with you and bless you;

for to you and your descendants I give all these lands,

and I will perform the oath which I swore to Abraham your father.

4 And I will make your descendants multiply as the stars of heaven;

I will give to your descendants all these lands;

and in your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed

because Abraham obeyed My voice and kept My charge,

My commandments, My statutes, and My laws.

6 So Isaac dwelt in Gerar.

Romans 9:

For they are not all Israel who are of Israel,

7 nor are they all children because they are the seed of Abraham;

but, In Isaac your seed shall be called.

8 That is, those who are the children of the flesh,

these are not the children of God;

but the children of the promise are counted as the seed.

So, I did some research and found out that as a youngster Abraham life span overlapped with Shem, Noah's son. Therefore Shem  probably related to Abraham what he and  his family went through, the flood and building of the Ark. Abraham probably put faith in what Shem told to build his faith in God instead of the idols his father worshipped.

Quite a few generations from Shem to Terah,

Abram and Nahor's father. Genesis 11:10-26.

He did live to be 600, but that is speculation about his influence.

Surely every generation heard the flood narrative.

Thanks for sharing that, though.

What matters is that when the Lord called

upon Abram to leave his father, he obeyed.

Joshua 24:

2 And Joshua said to all the people, Thus says the Lord God of Israel:

Your fathers, including Terah, the father of Abraham and the father of Nahor,

dwelt on the other side of the River in old times; and they served other gods.

3 Then I took your father Abraham from the other side of the River,

led him throughout all the land of Canaan, and multiplied

his descendants and gave him Isaac.

So the forefathers of Terah began serving other gods, unfortunately, but

Terah was the first to move away.

Genesis 11:31 And Terah took his son Abram and his grandson Lot, the son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, his son Abram’s wife, and they went out with them from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to the land of Canaan; and they came to Haran and dwelt there. 32 So the days of Terah were two hundred and five years, and Terah died in Haran.

A good study, thanks again!

Romans 10:17 states "Faith follows the things heard". We are not born with faith. Therefore Abraham had to hear something to build his faith in the true God.

The stories he heard provided a belief in God, and a desire to please Him.

Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him,

for he who comes to God must believe that He is,

and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

Faith the Lord imputes righteousness involves obedience to His Voice.

Hebrews 11:8 By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out

to the place which he would receive as an inheritance.

And he went out, not knowing where he was going.

Genesis 26:5 Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge,

my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.

Believing in God based on what we are taught about Him

is not the same as believing on His spoken word.

Abraham received promises directly from the Lord.

Genesis 15:

5 Then He brought him outside and said, “Look now toward heaven,

and count the stars if you are able to number them.”

And He said to him, “So shall your descendants be.”

6 And he believed in the Lord, and

He accounted it to him for righteousness. (Romans 4:13-22, James 2:21-24).

I am not saying that you are wrong, KJ, I am saying that there is more to faith

than believing in God based on the stories passed down the generations.

If you believe in the Lord based on what was passed down to us of the

apostolic doctrine, then you are already blessed.

John 17:20 “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those

who will believe in Me through their word."

Faith is perfected by obedience, when YOU hear His Voice, and obey.

Romans 1:5 Through Him we have received grace and apostleship for

obedience to the faith among all nations for His name.

John 4:

39 And many of the Samaritans of that city believed in Him

because of the word of the woman who testified,

“He told me all that I ever did.”

40 So when the Samaritans had come to Him, they urged Him

to stay with them; and He stayed there two days.

41 And many more believed because of His own word.

42 Then they said to the woman, “Now we believe,

not because of what you said, for we ourselves have heard Him

and we know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world.”
