STOCKHOLM (Worthy News) – The Israeli ambassador to Sweden said Wednesday that the Israeli embassy in Stockholm, the capital, was the target of an “attempted attack.”

Ziv Nevo Kulman spoke as Sweden’s national bomb squad detonated in a controlled manner an apparently explosive device near Israel’s diplomatic mission.

“Today we were subject to an attempted attack against the Embassy of Israel in Stockholm and its employees,” the ambassador wrote on social media network X. “We thank the Swedish authorities for their swift response. We will not be intimidated by terror,” he added.

The device was discovered by embassy staff, which alerted police, triggering a massive law enforcement operation, Worthy News learned.

Witnesses said police rushed to the scene with at least 10 vehicles and officers to cordon off the area surrounding the embassy.

It came as Europe is on heightened security alert after several acts of violence and rising antisemitic incidents linked at least in part to the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.

Last month, the European Union’s home affairs commissioner, Ylva Johansson, warned that Europe faces a “huge risk of terrorist attacks” over the Christmas holidays due to fallout from the armed conflict in Gaza.

Since then, security has been stepped up in several European nations. It was not immediately clear who was responsible for Wednesday’s attempted attack.

However, Iran-backed groups have been targeting Israel’s Western allies.
