THE HAGUE (Worthy News) – The Netherlands rushed special police forces and explosive experts to the Israeli embassy in The Hague late Thursday after a threat that “must be taken extremely seriously,” the city’s major Jan van Zanen confirmed.

Van Zanen did not say how long these measures would remain in place. He declined to state who was responsible for the threat.

Yet, Thursday’s move came as Europe is on heightened alert for acts of terrorism linked to the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza.

Late last month, an explosive device was found outside the Israeli embassy in Sweden, its ambassador Ziv Nevo Kulman said.

“Today we were subject to an attempted attack against the Embassy of Israel in Stockholm and its employees,” the ambassador wrote on social media network X following the January 31 incident. “We thank the Swedish authorities for their swift response. We will not be intimidated by terror,” he added.

The matter was being investigated as a suspected terrorist crime, officials said.

Similar fears rose in the Netherlands on Thursday, with witnesses saying the Israeli embassy had been cordoned off.

The traditionally tolerant nation has been reeling from antisemitic attacks and threats following the October 7 attacks by Hamas in which some 1,200 people died and some 250 were kidnapped.

Jewish schools in the Netherlands had been temporarily closed due to threats, though security was soon slowly stepped up around key Jewish sites.
