By nature, I'm a rough man. I grew up rough, in a rough town. My father, a notorious bar-room brawler and alcoholic, raised me to "not take anything from anybody". Now, saved and free from those past burdens, I am still dealing with a bad temper. I know that this is against the will of my Savior, but I continue to struggle. I am requesting any advice and prayers to help me deal with and change my conflicting nature.

I have been studying and meditating on this Scripture:

Do not hasten in your spirit to be angry, for anger rests in the bosom of fools-Ecclesiastes 7:9

Thanks in advance and God bless! :emot-heartbeat:

Hey Old Hickory,

For me this was also a struggle, growing up rough on the streets of Houston I too have dealt with the anger welling up and bursting out of me at various times. After 3 years of walking with our Savior I am now able to control those outbursts 98% of the time.

Eph 4:31-32 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake, hath forgiven you.

For me this was a life changing scripture. It spoke to me that there were things in my life that I had not forgiven others for. I was finally able to address those areas of unforgiveness that kept me in bondage to my anger. Now I seem to allow Christ to fill me with compassion for those that hurt me so during my life. They are only struggling as we are and most of them don't have Christ and the Word to direct them.

God Bless,

Amanda

Seriously, thank you for your inspirational words and kindnesses. I despise the rage I feel welling up in me at times and want to escape it for good. It is so hard to turn the other cheek, but I'm trying.

My Dad used to tease me that I didn't get mad, I just went for the jugular, and he was right. I would let things pile up and pile up until I just exploded. Oh and trust me, I knew which buttons to push to make sure I hurt your feelings to the ultimate. Then later after I calmed down I was so ashamed of myself, you can say your sorry, but you can never repair the damage of mean and unkind words.

I started trying to make sure I spoke up when I started feeling frustrated, or getting huffy, that way I don't (very often anymore) just completely loose my cool and make a fool out of myself and hurt someone just for spite.

Don't know if this helps, this might not be the way your anger problem works.

I will however be praying for you!
