Revelation. VISION 3. CHRIST THE MEDIATOR. The 2 Witnesses.

THE 2 WITNESSES                    (Rev. 11: 1 - 14)

The Lord Jesus Christ tells the Apostle John to prophecy again, to speak forth what is about to happen.

`You must prophecy again about many peoples, nations, tongues & kings.`

                                                                                                                                (Rev. 10: 11)

Israel.

In Ch. 11  we are shown the details of this prophecy to `many peoples, nations, tongues & kings.` The first people that Christ deals with are those in Israel who are looking for their Messiah to come.  They are the ones who worship in the temple.

                       `The angel (Christ) stood saying,

“Rise and measure the temple of God,

the altar and those who worship there.”

                                                                                         (Rev. 11: 1)

Gentiles.

Then Christ allocates the Gentile nations of the world a specific time for them to rule over Jerusalem. They are given 42 months which is the last 3 ½ years of the tribulation before He comes and judges them as to how they have treated His people.

“ But leave out the court which is outside the temple,

and do not measure it, for it has been given to the Gentiles.

And they will tread the holy city underfoot for 42 months.”

                                                                                                        (Rev. 11: 2)

Moses and Elijah.

Then Christ declares that He will give power to 2 men who will witness of Him to Israel and to the world of His coming kingdom rule through Israel. Their time is 1260 days.

`I will give power to My two witnesses,

and they will prophesy one thousand two hundred and sixty days,

                                                             clothed in sackcloth.

These are the 2 olive trees and the 2 lampstands

standing before the God of the earth.`

                                                                                              (Rev. 11: 3 & 4)

These 2 men, Christ`s Witnesses, are represented by olive trees and lampstands. (Zech. 4: 6) They are Moses and Elijah. They witnessed Christ`s transfiguration where He told them of His soon departure from the earth. They were also at the tomb and witnessed Christ`s resurrection, and later ascension into glory. (Luke 9: 30.  24: 4,  Acts 1: 10)

Thus we see these same 2 men now appearing to Israel during the second half of the tribulation witnessing of Christ, not only as their soon coming King but also as their High Priest, the one who gave His life for them, and arose victorious over sin and death.

now i can see why Elijah would be one of those as he was spirited away to heaven but Moses died and was buried is my understanding

Quote

“So Moses the servant of the Lord died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the Lord…no one knows the place of his burial to this day” (34:5–6).

- Deuteronomy 32; 34

Quote

11 And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. AKJV

Hi mabel,

So glad you brought up that interesting point.

Moses the most humble of men did get angry with the children of Israel and smote the rock instead of speaking to it. (Num. 20: 8 - 13) The Lord then said that he, Moses would only see the promised land from afar, because he did not hallow the Lord in the eyes of the children of Israel. (Num. 20: 12)

`But since then there has not risen in Israel a prophet like Moses whom the Lord knew face to face.`

Then when Moses died we are told that Satan contended with Michael the archangel about Moses` body. God took Moses for a future purpose. (Jude 9)

And even though Moses didn`t enter the promised land at first, we know that he stood with Jesus on Mount Transfiguration and talked with Jesus. `Then behold, two men talked with Him, who were Moses and Elijah.` (Luke 9: 30) Jesus spoke to Moses and Elijah about his up coming death, `His decease which He was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.` (v. 31)

So Moses and Elijah witnessed that Jesus was the Messiah about to be killed. Then at the tomb these two men, Moses and Elijah, told the women-

"Why do you seek the the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee, saying, "The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again."` (Luke 24: 1 - 8)

Moses and Elijah then have witnessed Jesus risen from the dead.

Then again we see them at an important time, Christ`s ascension.

`And while they looked steadfastly towards heaven as He went up, behold two men stood by them in white apparel, who also said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus who was taken from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven," (Acts 1: 10 & 11)

So God has Moses and Elijah to be His witnesses of His Son at the three most important times - speaking of His death, His resurrection, and His ascension. Thus Moses and Elijah are the two witnesses who can honestly witness of those important events to tell Israel (and the world) that Jesus is the Messiah, and what happened, and that He will return for them, the nation of Israel.

where does it say Moses and Elijah? i quite thought it just said two angels. gosh and again in Acts...so when Moses and Elijah come back as the two witnesses that will be 3 times in total. a bible pattern i guess.

I mentioned Moses as he died and was buried and didn’t continue into heaven. Which is what interested me. Seems like God is not constrained by death.

I also now remember the scripture that , the dead in Christ shall rise first

Hi mabel,

In Matthew and John we read of angels at the tomb, however in Luke we read also of the 2 men. Now Dr. Luke (Physician) tells us further back in his writings that the 2 men were with Jesus on Mount Transfiguration where Jesus was telling them about his upcoming death. Luke tells us that these `2 men` are Moses and Elijah.` Then when Luke writes some more he mentions these `2 men` again. He doesn`t have to say who they are for he has previously told us who they are. Then again when Luke writes the book of `Acts` he again mentions these `2 men` and thus we know who they are for he has told us when they first appeared.

These `2 men` will be able to `WITNESS` of the Lord`s death, resurrection and ascension for they `saw and heard` about those events. Thus they will be able to be true witnesses to Israel of the Lord and what happened to Him. For that is what a witness does - speaks of what they see and hear.

As to Moses body. Satan tried to lay claim to it, (Jude 9) but God was holding Moses` body for His own purposes as His `witness` to Israel in the trib.

its quite incredible that satan wanted to lay claim does that indicate then that satan, 'can bring to life'

Hi mabel,

Satan cannot `bring life.` He only had the `power of death.` Thus could claim dead bodies.

`Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He (Christ) Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil.` (Heb. 2: 14)

But praise the Lord no more, for the Lord has overcome death and now Satan cannot hold us down for we will go straight to glory, for we are `in Christ.` Yipeee.
