The Forming of the Body of Christ. Israel: Transition.
TRANSITION.
From Jesus` earthly ministry to Israel to His later ministry to His Body there is a transition time. The apostles were still focused on Jesus coming again to rule through Israel and coming out from Roman rule.
The book of Acts shows us this transition time, then, later how the Lord Jesus begins forming His body. Acts was written by the physician Luke to give to an important man called, Theophilus. Luke had written to him previously, (in the Gospel of Luke) telling of all that Jesus `began to do and teach:` and then in Acts, Luke writes of what Jesus continued to do and teach through His Holy Spirit.
`The former account I made, O Theophlius, of all that Jesus began to do and teach, until the day in which He was taken up after He through the Holy Spirit had given commandments to the apostles whom He had chosen,..` (Acts 1: 1 & 2)
When Jesus rose from the grave He was with the apostles for forty days speaking to them of the things regarding the rulership of God.
Jesus `presented Himself alive after His suffering by many infallible proofs, being seen by them (apostles) during forty days and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God.` (Acts 1: 3)
Jesus then commanded them to wait in Jerusalem till they had received of His Holy Spirit.
`And being assembled together with them, He (Jesus) commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from me; for John truly baptised with water, but you shall be baptised with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” (Acts 1: 4 & 5)
Apostles focused on Israel.
The apostles however were focused on when Jesus would restore Israel to rule over the nations. Rome was in power and they wanted to come out from under their rule. Jesus told them that it wasn`t for them to know when that would happen.
`Therefore when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, “Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom (rule) to Israel?” And he said to them, “It is not for you to know the times and seasons which the Father has put in His own authority.`
(Acts 1: 6 & 7)
