The Forming of the Body of Christ. The Impartation of the Divine Nature.

The Impartation of the Divine nature.

The people heard Peter and changed their mind as to who Jesus was, they were then baptised and received the Holy Spirit.

`Then those who gladly received his word were baptised; and that day about three thousand souls were added.`(Acts 2: 41)

These Jewish converts were taught of the Lord, His life, death, resurrection and ascension. They knew about God`s promises to Israel that their Messiah would come and that Israel would rule the nations.

(However the great truths, of the Body of Christ were yet to be revealed by the Head of the Body to the Apostle Paul many years later.)

The Holy Spirit imparted the very life of Christ into the believers.

`Jesus our Lord...His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises,

that through these you may be partaker of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.` (2 Peter 1: 2 - 4)

The believers shared all things and fellowshipped daily together.

`Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, and sold their possessions and goods and divided them among all, as anyone had need.

So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with simplicity of heart, praising God and having favour with all the people.

And the Lord added to the ekklesia daily those who were being saved.` (Acts 2: 44 - 47)

The work of the Holy Spirit in these early believers brought forth a wonderful sense of community and oneness, sharing all things and fellowshipping, rejoicing in their salvation. Others saw the change in their lives and thus sought to know the Lord themselves, daily being added to the group.

`Now the multitude of those who believed were of one heart and one soul; neither did anyone say that any of the things he possessed was his own, but they had all things in common.` (Acts. 4: 32)

after Peter had the vision of the unclean and clean animal's just prior to going to Cornelius who was a Gentile. and Gentiles were considered unclean...but God had turned his attention towards the Gentiles and hence, the book of Acts is a transitional book. a gradual but a definite change of doctrine (as i understand it) to incorporate the Gentiles.

this was what the early church must have been like. i notice that people (Jews) were gathering in the temple and also home groups

the message here that they were all in accord was the message of WHO  Jesus Christ was/is. they, the Jews had accepted that the Lord Jesus Christ was/is their Messiah. the WHAT  message came later with Paul

in the days before church buildings took dominance and now any money or resources are focused on the church building the cost of running and maintaining it and also the Government giving concessions to the church (tax relief) so there you go church and State dynamic. true home grown church community got somewhat lost in bureaucracy.

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

in the name of Jesus Christ=is the WHO message. what is interesting here is that they get the Holy Spirit by being baptised in the water another change. whereas before to get saved was Just to believe the WHO message which btw was for Jews. Because the Jews had to accept Christ as their Messiah. hence the emphasis of the WHO message in the early church but also just prior to Jesus starting his ministry. John the Baptist was making the way straight for the nation of Israel but the religious leaders refused to believe that Jesus Christ was their Messiah

Good point about the early believers just meeting in their homes and how over the years it has become so building orientated. And the cost of that is ridiculous. Instead we could have looked after the poor, the sick, the hungry, & much more etc etc.
