The Forming of the Body of Christ. Paul`s First Missionary Journey.

Jesus is Lord of All.

Many years passed as Christ by His Holy Spirit worked with His Jewish Apostles. They healed the sick and challenged the people of Israel concerning who Jesus was. However they still had a Jewish understanding of God`s purposes.

Thus it was that the Holy Spirit gave Peter a vision concerning what was clean or unclean. This lead to Peter visiting Cornelius, a Gentile and saw that after they believed the Holy Spirit fell on them too.  (Acts 10)

Peter then realised that `In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality, but in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him. The word which God sent to the children of Israel, preaching peace through Jesus Christ, He is Lord of all` (Acts 10: 34 - 36)

Meanwhile a man called Saul, (later Paul) was confronted by the Lord Himself.

`As he (Saul) journeyed he came near Damascus, and suddenly a light shone around him from heaven. Then he fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?” (Acts 9: 3 & 4)

Saul trembling wanted to know who he was and finding out it was Jesus whom he was persecuting asked, “What do you want me to do?” Saul was then sent to Ananias and received the Holy Spirit. He then went into the desert and was taught of the Lord.

`When it pleased God .....to reveal His Son to me....I did not immediately confer with flesh and blood, nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were apostles before me; but I went to Arabia, and returned to Damascus.` (Gal. 1: 15 - 17)

Paul`s First Missionary Journey. (AD 48 & 49)(Acts 13 & 14)

Now Paul was very learned in the Old Testament scriptures. He knew all the history of Israel and the promises of God to them as a nation. So when Paul and Barnabas were sent out on their first missionary journey they went to the Jews first, and spoke in their synagogue. (Acts 13: 23)

The Gentiles also begged that these words would be preached to them next Sabbath. But the Jews were filled with envy and opposed what Paul was saying. Thus he said -

` It was necessary that the word of God should be spoken to you first; but since you reject it, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles.` (Acts 13: 46)

Paul and Barnabas made many disciples amid great opposition of the unbelieving Jews. (Acts 14: 22)

Returning to Antioch, their home fellowship `they reported all that God had done with them, and that He had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles.` (Acts 14: 27)

it was this experience that changed Peter's understanding of how to be saved by the Holy Spirit, just by believing no works needed for example a water baptism. to be truly saved you need to believe the gospel of your Salvation 1 Cor 15:1-4 the reason this is important to take 'seriously is,'

Rom 2:16 in the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.

God will judge us based on what we believed in regards to the gospel of our Salvation. did we ignore it? did we put our  trust and faith in the gospel of our Salvation? faith, faith in what? faith in the Blood Atonement of Jesus Christ. A message that is hardly if ever preached in main stream churches today, this used to be the message in churches but changed in the early 1800's

interesting thought, it began in Damascus and it will end in Damascus ...Damascus will become a ruinous heap over night and with all the activity going on in that part of the world we are so very close to this event. hence why i say this world is drawing to a close. there will still be 7 more years is my understanding, but life as we currently have it will be no longer...lawlessness far far worse than now

he went off the radar for 3 years a kind of wilderness bible sabbatical if you will. some people even say that Paul was at the mount Sinai which would be interesting because that is where Moses received the 10 Commandments- no idea if that was true ...

Peter ministry was mainly to the Jews and Paul's ministry was mostly to the Gentiles..now i cant remember the scripture folks!

however Paul always,  well mostly always that is, went to the Synagogues first whenever he went somewhere and then he went to the Gentiles i think God must have allowed Paul some grace to do this. But Paul was mandated to be the Apostle to the Gentiles

and here we see that it is Very Clear that God had turned to the Gentiles, but God has not finished with the Jews. God again deals with the Jews in the times of Jacob's trouble or as we know it as the Tribulation.
