The Forming of the Body of Christ. Paul`s Third Missionary Journey.
Paul`s Third Missionary Journey. (AD 53 - 56) (Acts 18: 23 - 21: 26)
4. Truth - the Day of Christ.(Corinthians)
While on Paul`s third missionary journey, at Ephesus he wrote to the Corinthians. Paul wrote in detail concerning the Body of Christ and the Holy Spirit`s gifts.
`For as the Body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body; so also is Christ.` (1 Cor. 12: 12)
He reveals that the time period of the forming of the Body of Christ is called -
- the Day of Christ, (or more fully, the Lord Jesus Christ).
This time period is before the Day of the LORD (God Almighty for judgment). Together these `Days` time periods reveal God`s prophetic Calendar as the Last Days. These are the Last time periods as God completes His purposes for the Body of Christ, for Israel and for the Nations.
`I thank my God always concerning you.....so that you come short in no gift, eagerly waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will also confirm you to the end, that you may be blameless in the day of the Lord Jesus Christ.` (1 Cor. 1: 4 - 8)
Paul writes in great detail concerning this great mystery.
`We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed - in a moment, ...for this corruptible must put on incorruption and this mortal must put on immortality.` (1 Cor. 15: 51 - 53)
5. Truth - the Great Truth of Grace. (Romans)
Paul was intending to go to Rome and thus he desired to give the believers the distinctive truths which had been revealed to and through him. These statements of the great doctrines of grace were needed to stand against the legalistic teachers.
`For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.` (Rom. 1: 16)
He also wrote of the great promises to the nation of Israel to be fulfilled and of the Gentiles and Jews coming into Christ as His Body. Thus, pointing out the two distinctive purposes of God.
`For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. And so all Israel will be saved.(Rom.11: 25 & 26)
